Root [Guide] How to root the Wildfire S with S-ON

I have WFS A510e
HBOOT 1.08.0000
software version 2.14.415.1
radio 7.53.39.03M
Andriod 2.3.5

I have downloaded the [HBOOT] HBOOT update and placed it in the sd card but when i open the bootloader the file is not loading even after waiting for a long time........

please help......

sorry mate, not sure why this could happen, for me it recognised the image almost immediately (after 1-2 seconds maybe)

although I did have different software version (2.13.401.2), could this be causing a problem?

cannot really advise anything apart making sure that you copy the image in the root folder of SD card, maybe checking the MD5 sum as well? The one that worked for me is:

Code:
$ md5sum PG76IMG.zip
49cc26c4152f1a5ca5d7fa17112c0aa5 PG76IMG.zip

PS also corrected typo in my first post, of course my phone is S-ON not S-OFF :)

How do you check MD5 sum....

use either md5 (Linux) or md5sum (Mac) utility from command line (as per my example), and for Windows there are special utilities that can calculate the MD5 sum for any file that you open in Windows Explorer (don't remember the name but there were several of them)

Hi I have a wildfire s on 3UK, HBOOT 1.03.0000, s-on, android 2.3.3 htc sense 2.1 and software number 1.33771.5. Ive tried all ways to unlock the bootloader for my phone so that I can put a custom rom on it but when im going through htcdev it wont let me do the update to 2.17.0.0 Im getting error code 191 rom is not supported. I have also tried the PG76IMG.ZIP thing but also no luck. :( Is there anyway you can help me please guys as this is getting on my nerves now after reading god knows how many different threads. I have never done this before either and am bit of a beginner. If you can help me in basic and easy to understand steps that would be great. I also have clockwork mod installed on my device but it wont let me do a recovery???

What kind of phone do you have (A510x) and what is its part number (PG76xxx)?

ok I found it sorry PG76100
If that's the case and you've followed step 3B of the guide carefully then I don't know why it's not working unless it's because you've flashed a custom recovery before unlocking and rooting, if that's possible. I'd upgrade to 2.3.5 per step 2 to get back to a stock recovery and try again.

Gday,
I recently rooted my Wildfire S and am now running CM7.

Only thing I dont like about CM7 and miss about sense is the keyboard.
Ive found and installed several diferent versions of HTC ime on the web which supposedly work on CM7. None of them have worked.
Anyone succesfully installed HTC ime on a Wildfire S running CM7 ?
If so please provide details.

I realise this may not be the appropriate thread to post this in however I thought it may get noticed by the right people here. Same question is also posted here:

About the sound thing, I can't help you. About the custom ROM, I do recommend that you check out CyanogenMod 7.2 by Alques over at XDA.

by the way I had the same issue with supertool v3 including that part when typing reboot did not do anything, but it was only happening when I did it under Parallels Desktop. When I tried again using actual laptop with Windows everything was fine.

hi i was wondering could anyone help me as i do have problem
i followed the guide and worked perfectly till stage 4, i missed stage 5a because i werent getting notifications about 2.13.401.3 being available so i completed stage 5b but when i wanted to backup the stock rom (stage 5c) using ClockworkMod app on the phone things went wrong from their, i started the app and it gave me a message saying:
'you must root your phone for ROM Manager to function. Superuser was not found at /system/bin/su or /system/xbin/su. Use Google Search on your computer to find out instructions on how to root your phone'
i clicked ok and selected the option 'Backup Current ROM' and it told me to install ClockworkMod Recovery, so i did and i selected my phone but once the green bar at the top finished it said:
'An error occured while attempting to run privileged commands!'
can anyone help me plz. Thanks

cafekmapuchia, nice post
Tks!

have you heard anything about this page

unlockroot.com/guide.htm

seem like is possible to root the phone with a click?
to good to be true?
Actually I've not heard of it.

From their FAQ:
4. Q: Does rooting do any of the following? 1. Wipe the data? 2. Unlock the bootloader? 3. Change the recovery ?

A: You have to unlock the bootloader before rooting. It won't wipe the data or change the recovery.
So the short answer is, No, you can't root with just one click--unless you've unlocked your bootloader which takes a lot of clicks!

The Wildfire S is actually very easy to root, and there are several good methods. The hard part is getting S-OFF or unlocking the bootloader so you can root. That's really what the guide is about, unlocking the bootloader.

So just to confirm, you successfully completed all of step 3 and when you boot the device into bootloader you see ***UNLOCKED***, right?

When you run the HTC SuperTool, what happens?
