Help Triumph randomly shuts down

sundrop

Lurker
Picked it up on Cyber Monday, rooted and CM7.

This was happening before I even modded it. There is no specific action that I do that causes it. It will not power back on unless I take the battery out and wait a few minutes. Is this a known issue? Is there a debugger that I am not aware of that I can pull a log from to find out what is causing it?

It can stay on for days, before it happens. Its 100% random (as far as I can observe)

BTW.

Thanks for the wonderful site.

I haven't had this happen on mine, except when I tried undervolting. Did it feel hot in the back? Could be a overheating issue, due to an app that keeps the processor running indefinitely.

actually no. I felt no heat from the unit. I can recall most of the time it was after it had been sitting idle.

I had this issue as well just minutes after taking it out of the box. It doesn't matter if I'm using the device of if it has been sitting on my desk for 5-10 minutes. It will reboot.

Funny thing is that the reboot doesn't take as long as a cold boot.

So I installed CM7 in hopes that it would fix this issue. Not at all. :/

Sounds like a hardware issue. I would get it replaced.

Also getting a lot of apps that are force closing :/

Gmail for example.

Installing CM7 voids your warranty. I have the old rom, would flashing to that and removing CWM basically put me in the clear for getting a replacement?

Be honest with VM about what you did. I have heard from people that VM will sometimes replace it anyway, although that is not guaranteed. It can't hurt to call and ask.

Yes, also reset to factory after restore, & remove root.

It wouldn't bother me but I use my phone as an alarm clock often and heaven forbid I sleep in for work because my phone shut off.

hey that happened to me the other day. just remove the battery and put it back on that should solve the issue. that worked for me why it shouldnt work for you.

also ur phone might need to be charged. the phone tends to power on but not load completely when its on 10% barrey life.

I'm experiencing the exact same problem. Did you find a solution?

get a replacement. That is most definitely a hardware problem. The phone shouldn't reboot at all unless your rooted and messing with cpu settings, but if you are on stock and not messing with cpu settings, get a replacement.

Hello! So my triumph had been working great up until recently! I rooted the device and wanted to change the boot logo animation which I did under root explorer, and right after the phone continuously reboots (without Micro SD inserted). Then after a few reboots, it will be fine until I attempt to download something from the apps store. But, if I have the Sd card inserted it reboots over and over and over. Any ideas as to what this might be? I've attempted to re-install root explorer after factor wiping the whole device several times to see if I can reverse the boot animation back to stock, but I need the Micro Sd card inserted to download the application. Is the phone bricked? Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

I am also having a problem with the phone randomly restarting. My trouble started a week ago when the phone suddenly started telling me that I had 0 MB of internal storage available (despite having 250+ MB the day before). I did a factory reset and that seemed to solve that problem. And it did, except then I started having a problem with my phone continuously restarting. It will occur both when the phone is plugged in (with multiple different chargers) or unplugged, and at all battery levels.

After a few days of trying to find a solution online, I called VM and they sent me a replacement (refurbished) phone. I swapped over to the new phone and this phone is doing it too! Could this be a problem with the battery (since the phone they sent me did not come with a battery, I am using the battery from my original phone)?

I love my MT and haven't had any problem with it until last week.

Have you formatted the SD card? I know with the optimus, if you didn't format the SD it would randomly give errors and reboot whenever it felt like it..could that be the same for the triumph?

Edit:: quoted the wrong person, but my response applies to everyone saying about random rebooting.

I don't think that is true for the Triumph. I have used unformatted (at least I never formatted them, but they were formatted at some point by the manufacturer) SD cards and not had that issue. I don't know that for sure though, just saying it might not be.

I actually just tried that yesterday after reading that another poster in here said the phone would stop rebooting when the SD card was removed. Unfortunately, I am still having the problem.

I am trying installing apps one-by-one on the off chance that one of them is causing the problem. When I installed the Hotmail app (official from Microsoft), the phone rebooted a few minutes after. Now that I have uninstalled it, the phone seems to be running fine for the past 12+ hours. Is anyone else running the Hotmail app on Triumph?

Hmm I didn't know Hotmail had an app lol. I'm on my way to work now so if it's still unresolved I can check when I get home tonight

I'm having a very similar problem. After having an issue free phone for around 4 months, three or so days ago, my phone started rebooting when going into idle or sleep mode. It was happening on CM7, and now it's happening on CM9, and I've tried most everything.

Edit: I'm now on the stock rom with nothing installed, and it's still doing it. It's only when it falls into idle/sleep. Any ideas?

I'm absolutely positive it's in between being idle and going to sleep. I've tried all things, but when it's plugged in, or being used, it does not reboot. Only when it's going to sleep. And it's stuck in a boot loop. It's a drain on the battery.

Scratch what I said in my last post, the phone is still restarting randomly on CM7. It's not as bad as it was a few days ago, when it was restarting every 5 minutes, but it is still annoying and a battery drain.

Not sure if this will help, but back with android 2.2, i had the same issue. I fixed it by turning off the wireless sleep on screen shutdown. Try changing your wireless sleep policy and see what happens.

How do you change the wireless sleep policy? Is there an APP for that, or something?

Nevermind. I found it. It still reboots, however.
