[Verizon] [MOD] Fullscreen 1280 x 720 (3/4/12)

I changed some of the instructions in the OP. I found this mod shortly after mrx posted it and played with it all day before posting here. I wanted to make sure I knew everything about it. Also it has evolved in a major way since mrx first posted it so I'll try and keep this as up-to-date as possible.

The instructions now give an easier revert than a restore once the mod is performed. Take special note of steps 1-3 in #II. It's a heck of a lot easier and faster to rewrite your framework-res in Root Explorer than it is to restore. Please still make a backup before modding. Ya never know!

Just a thought but if you can rewrite framework-res to revert you should be able to do the same to apply the mod as well if you don't want to flash it. Given I may be the only person who doesn't like to flash stuff I can use root explorer for but it should work both ways ;)

That is correct. Those instructions were in the OP originally, but since so many people seek the "easy way" (aka flash in cwm), in order to cause less confusion to newer folks, I took those instructions out to try and simplify the instruction set.

I figured those like you who have much more knowledge than folks like me would conclude this. It does work "both ways", I can re-add those instructions if you think I should, thanks for the input Yeahha :)
 
You don't have to re-add them or anything like that ;) I wasn't sure if you knew or not. I look at a copy/paste in Root explorer as the easy way but perhaps I am just a bit odd :D

No, your just experienced ;)

I think it's easier too that way....now. But 2 years ago I saw things like root explorer, mount r/w, framework-res.apk, systemUI.apk, drawable-sw600dp-xhdpi, etc... and I said, "just give me the da*n flashable zip please" :p

Of course there are other people who would say why not just use ADB :D Gotta love having many ways to do the exact same thing lol
 
Yeah just did after I flashed the new liquid. I am not a fan of the gestures personally but I like the full screen so I will deal with the pie
 
No I stuck with the app you linked in the OP I haven't had a need to use button savior for over a year and the one you linked is a good match with ICS blue:D
 
After running this for 2 days I've come to realize this can be a wonderfully convenient mod. There are times, only 2 handed operation, that I reach for my old bottom navbar. I've gotten good with the pie and it is almost as quick as a quick tap on the old nav bar, almost.

For one handed navigation on the GN this mod with LMT is actually easier to navigate the phone with than the bottom navbar. For 2 handed operation not so much, but still not bad. LMT dev is taking many requests and I bet we will see a dual sided pie menu very soon. I would like the option to have it on both sides and I'd like to see a black version :cool:. When I single hand the GN I use both right and left depending on what I'm doing.
 
It definitely is a nice mod. I'm enjoying it, but will more than likely revert to the navbar. I really hope roman decides to build this into AOKP 24. That would be amazing.

If you go to last page of the feature submit/request page something similar has been given the "accepted" status to be included in future AOKP builds. Don't know how they will implement it though. Tough call because if for some reason you hide the nav bar and you have no alternative navigational methods installed, and for some random reason the hide nav bar fubars then what :eek: (you'd have to install something like LMT or a 3rd party navi bar app like button savior)
 
I imagine this will be included on most roms in the future if they can figure out a way to set up a toggle of some sort to turn off the nav bar, even if it requires a reboot. I think this is a great mod and hope they can come up with a way to toggle the nav bar with a notification bar toggle that would be great.

Yup I bet we see it and it becomes a given in about a month. I'd like to see a gesture based toggling of the nav bar. A "swipe up" from below the bottom of the screen onto the screen would work well. Just like pulling down the notification bar

Played with the right side pie...nice. Then, i tried to install the res file. seemed to all go ok, but i got an error saying to clear home default and below that several services weren't running. %1$snotrunning or someting like that.

Went in a cleared defaults on the launcher (use Nova v15 which could possibly be the problem). I ran the stock launcher too and it still gave me the error. I emulated sending a notice to GOogle to see which file was the problem, and it was system.miui

Does the res file not work with CDMA?

I haven't flashed the zip. The zips weren't available originally when the mod first hit the shores and when I started the OP. It was just the modified framework-res.apk.

You could download the zip, extract the framework-res.apk, drop it on your GN sdcard, then use root explorer to copy and paste it to your system/framework folder. It will overwrite your present framework-res.apk file. Be sure before doing this to make a copy of your original framework-res.apk using root explorer or similar. In the OP instructions. Then you can fly back and forth by just overwriting that file when you want or don't want the mod. It works with CDMA been running it for a few days now.

Did you dnld the correct file to match the ROM you're on?
 
Thanks JB. I am still on M3, maybe that's the problem.

Edit: That was it. All good on B23. Extracted Res file and created original copy for safe keeping. Now I just copy over to flip back and forth as you suggested. Works great. Very nice find.

this looks great. I am a newbie at this and I am terrified to acctually root my phone. I had a friend root my last phone so I flashed new roms all day long and loved it. He moved away so thats why I am hesitant to flash. Is this full screen mod something I can use I think it was clock work or something like that to just switch roms on? I had like 4 different ones on my droid incredible. Also how do you back up the phone? I don't want to lose my pictures since there is no sd card on the Nexus. Thanks.
 
Danny, you are in the wrong thread for questions on rooting and such. ;) Go back to the All things Root forum and review the info in the thread on Rooting. You can use this link if you haven't been to the thread yet. Have fun with it, and do your research before you unlock your bootloader. All your data including what's on your "SD" card will be wiped. It is well worth it, just make sure to backup stuff you don't want to lose like pics and stuff. Also, would highly recommend you purchase Titanium Backup, it is key to easy ROM flashing and restore of apps and user data (not system apps-don't want to restore those after a new ROM Flash). Anyway, there is tons of help on the boards.

Its all going good on my unit. I just t need to know what "single Touch Gestures" is?

I also miss my "Hold Back Button to Kill Apps".

the jury is still out but I'm gonna run it a while.
