Help Hide files from media scanner

Bodestone

I was wondering if there was an easy way to put files onto the phone so they are not indexed by the media scanner.

Part of this is laziness and part of it is never having found a playlist creater that is not a pain for me to use but I basically have all the music I want on the phone and put it on random all songs.

If I then use the phone to transport a large batch of audio files they be indexed and played. I'd like to be able to add files to a location that will not be indexed for media.

I cannot answer your question directly but I use Mixzing basic to create playlists from specific directories. The cool thing is that once it is finished building the playlist the stock music player can use it even when Mixzing is closed. The playlist is lost however if you reboot or if media scanning starts again.

Hope this helps.

Eric.

If it's anything like my GS II, you should be able to use the "My Files" app or any other file explorer I suppose and place the things you would like to not be scanned by the media scanner in the "usbStorage" folder.

Wow, thanks a lot for this hint. Now that I have moved all of my mp3s out of usbStorage I don't need to fiddle with the playlist. Excellent. Now I just need to work out how to get the mic unmuted during calls with headphones in and I have a perfect phone. Scary!

To hide all the files in a particular folder, create a file named .nomedia in that folder.

To hide all the files in a particular folder as well as all the sub-folders under it, create a folder called .nomedia in that particular folder.

Next time the gallery scans for media files, it will leave off the folder with the .nomedia file/folder.

AFAIK, it would work will most media players too. I use MX Player. It has an option to include or omit the folders with the .nomedia file/folder.

Hope this helps.

Easiest way to do this is to set up folder exclusion in PoewrAMP :) Good solution since you also get the best music player for Android into the bargain!

I found it in an aside in another thread here that I can't find to link to now.

DOH!, it was 2 posts up in this thread.

If you create a blank file called .nomedia in a folder then that folder and its sub folders will not be scanned for media.
