yh it says ***UNLOCKED*** when i booted the device into bootloader and when i ran HTC SuperTool it sayed ROOTED in big letters and then i typed 'reboot' and the phone rebooted successfully. i have attached pictures to help you. the 1st picture is what it shows after i choose option 1. the 2nd picture is what it shows after i choose option 3

Ok, try to install the SuperUser app and some other app that requires root. I like to use ES File Explorer with Root explorer enabled and system mountable (under settings).

i done what you said but when i select the option and select 'yes' to 'try this feature' another box comes up saying 'sorry, test failed. This feature cannot run on your phone. ' i also installed SuperUser app and loaded it up and says 'no apps in list'. I'm starrting to think this phone is not rooted even though SuperTool says it is

You must install SuperUser first, reboot, install ES File Explorer and enable root explorer. You can also try any other app from Android Market that requires root.

BTW, the pictures you sent before are unclear and I couldn't see if you got any errors.

here it is what i saw after selecting option 1 in HTC Super Tool
after clicking 1 these messages came up (i only could copy part of it):
adb server is out of date. killing...
*daemon started successfully*
Pushing zergRush...
Press any key to continue
*daemon started successfully*
changing permissions...
Press any key to continue
adb server is out of date. killing...

Here are some of the messages i noted when selecting option 3 (the 1st two kept repeating themselves alot):
adb server is out of date. killing...
*daemon started successfully*
unable to chmod system/bin/su: No such file directory

Thanks. But will this process work even thought i have s-on and my boot loader is unlocked
4. Now on to root the phone!
Note: this will only work if your phone's bootloader is successfully unlocked (you see ***_UNLOCKED_*** on your bootloader screen) or you happen to have an S-ON phone.
Requirements:

  • A Wildfire S with unlocked bootloader or S-OFF.
You only need one or the other to root your phone, not both.

Thanks so much for the guide!!
I'm a noob so want to make sure I get this done right. So which backup app do you guys recommend for this?

What all are you wanting to back up?

* Phone contacts can be backed up and restored under People.
* Gmail contacts and email can be re-synced.
* Email can be re-synced if you're using IMAP instead of POP. Otherwise I'm not sure.
* Texts can be backed up with Go SMS Pro.
* I think there are apps that can backup and restore user apps without root, but I'm not sure about that. I've never done it. I just reload my apps, but I only use about 10 anyway.

Hope that helps.

First off: THANK YOU!

I've been seaching for more than 2+ months, daily(!) to get my HTC WildFire S(!) rooted and finally got the CM-mod installed.

I finally got my HTC WildFire S bootloader unlocked, rooted, CM7 installed (and working after reboot, the first install of CM7 got me in a "boot-loop" (removing the battery and rebooting fixed this!)...

WINNING! haha

Will i receive further ota updates after updating my hboot at htcdev.com ??
If you stick with a stock ROM, yes.

But a FOTA update will at least unroot your phone (not such a big deal since it's easy to root the device), and may also update the bootloader to a locked one, which is more of a pain. That's what happened to people who updated to 2.13.401.3, and it took HTC dev a few weeks to unlock the bootloader, so people lost root for that time and had to redo the whole procedure :(

can anyone tell how to unroot my wildfire s ????
Re-flashing a stock ROM will unroot the phone, and is fairly easy. Are you asking in case you need warranty service? If so, please read the following excerpt from this post:
A Word About Warranties
Don’t root your phone unless you are willing to sacrifice your warranty. HTC has warned us in advance, and if you go the unlocked bootloader route you have to fill out disclaimers at htcdev.com waiving your warranty rights.

Somebody always asks if there is a way to revert to the stock ROM and regain S-ON or a locked bootloader to get warranty service in case of a hardware problem with the phone. Think about it: if a physical component of your phone fails (like the touchscreen), in all likelihood you will be unable to revert even if such a procedure existed! You’d spend less time getting a part-time job at McDonalds flipping burgers to buy yourself a new phone.
A user in Great Brittan has confirmed the loss of warranty, even for a hardware problem (power button stopped working) because the phone was unlocked and rooted.

If warranty is the bottom line for you, then don't unlock or S-OFF and root your phone.

First of all,

CafeKampuchia, you are a God!! Thanks so much for this guide!! My phone is now rooted!!!

Second of all...well... that was all!

Now the fun part comes! :D

hi i was able to successfully install cm7 after rooting...but i get stuck on the HTC white screen if i install any other rom...can u please help me out here...how do i flash any other rom to the device???

Make sure you do a factory reset and wipe all cache including dalvik before flashing the new ROM. If you didn't, go back into Recovery and do so now.

If that doesn't work, try fixing permissions in Recovery.

Alright, this may not be so much WFS related, & I apologise if I have posted this in the wrong forum
I have the Telstra WFS A510b. Ive unlocked my bootloader and it now runs the european ROM. When i go to use HTC supertool v3, itll pop up for a few seconds, then open IE and go to the creators homepage. so when IE opens supertool.exe automatically shuts down. Ive done almost everything i can think of to try and open supertool, but no success. Ive visited the creators website, clicked on the links, ive even gone to donate but it showed an error on the google checkout. Is there something im doing wrong or what?! Id like to root my fone with supertool, but if i cant get it to open i may just have to root it the other way. Thanks for any help in advance guys, i really appreciate it!!

I don't understand why opening IE closes the Supertool. When I rooted my phone, I just closed the browser (Firefox in my case) and kept going.

Try rooting using a different root method: [GUIDE] How to Root the Wildfire S

Now that your bootloader is unlocked, this method should work fine.

I don't know why it's returning that error as that bootloader was made to receive the unlocktoken.

Is HTC Sync running in the background? It can cause problems. Make sure you open task manager and kill it if you see it.

BTW, since you have a CDMA phone, you can root by gaining S-OFF with a goldcard. Unlocking the bootloader isn't necessary. You have a MarvelC and this guide has everything for your phone:
Tutorials, Roms, Team MarvelUSc -- EVERYTHING YOU NEED
