Will the Droid X

Officially the Droid X will not get ICS but there are a few ICS roms out there. All of them are still beta stage with bugs here and there. None of them have a fully functioning camera.

It is being actively worked on but just don't count on it coming from Motorola.
 
there could be a possibility of seeing the droid x with an unlocked bootloader once google takes over completely, and we petition it again for unencrypted bootloaders, as google is always willing to help out the people when it comes to their OS.

we just need to give it time and see if they will give us the keys

Rubin is saying that Google is pretty much going to let Motorola be Motorola and won't be doing anything with them. So don't hold your breath. Even though Moto promised to unlock the bootlaoders already.
 
There's still the chance that the new CEO Dennis Woodside could try to clean up Moto's image and fulfill the promise about bootloaders.

While Google isn't directly involved with Motorola Mobility, by appointing a CEO with 9 years of Google experience, it may be just enough influence to change things.
 
I hope Motorola makes a Nexus phone my opinion since the Droid X is one
of the best phones i have owned. or moto just gives us the keys we
can dream can't we ;):p the Nexus X ha sounds like room for improvement
on the phones name :cool:

I don't think they'd use X in the name but what do I know. I never thought I'd see the name RAZR again. It'd probably be more reasonable to expect something like Droid Nexus. I know, it doesn't sound right to me either.
 
I'd like to see Motorola make a Nexus device as well, but I'm afraid that now that Google owns Moto, they might go with someone else just to prevent the appearance of favoritism.
 
I don't quite understand why the big name for Android(it's creator) would have a problem showing favoritism to its own company for producing it's own flagship phone.

In my opinion, I think it's quite bizarre any of the google nexus phones have been made by other companies besides google.

I agree with you 100% but I'm gonna have to go with ylexot on this. Part of the reason Google got Moto Mobility was because they said the company would run the same as before without any of their influence. Plus Google did say to all the other OEMs that they weren't going to play favorites with Motorola.

I'd say give it a year after the deal is completely approved and the whole thing falls under the radar.
 
Exactly. When Google started the process of buying Moto, there was concern that it would give an unfair advantage to Moto which would have other manufacturers looking at the possibility of switching to a different OS (why compete on an unfair playing field). And I agree that after the next Nexus goes to someone else (HTC, LG, good-god-not-Samsung-again), it should calm those fears and allow Google to choose Moto for the following Nexus (if they have the best proposal).
 
samsung already has 2 nexus devices, i believe the only reason that samsung won 2 years in a row is because they presented a better device with better capabilities than the others, as google wants the best device at that given time to run their nexus name brand.

at least thats what i want to believe

Nexus X (I like it!) Personally I would like to get rid of all the bloat and run a pure OS on my X. Not happy with Blur, I understand Moto wanting to keep it from a marketing standpoint but wish they would get a clue about providing a pure experience for those of us that want it. Probably won't happen though...:(

The same can be said about all skins applied by the manufacturers. It's simply to differentiate themselves from one another. If the leaked pictures are any indication, it looks like Moto is toning down the UI that must not be named (sorry, I'm watching Harry Potter right now) to a degree.

Who am I kidding. Blur will always be Blur just like I will always call it The Sears Tower and not The Willis Tower and in my heart it will always be Comisky Park and never US Cellular Field.

ive asked this before...but...

im curious...can you show me where Motorola or VZW ever specifically said that the DroidX would have its bootloader unlocked? :rolleyes:

There were other communications from Motorola to individuals saying bootloaders would be unlocked or at least be locked/unlockable. This story all began in April of last year if you want to read more on it. I have a suspicion Verizon cracked the whip on Moto since earlier statements from Moto said nothing about carriers. Does anyone carry more Motorola devices than Verizon? It's like one big game of dirty pool. I don't know if it's right that a carrier has that much say over a manufacturer.

I haven't really heard other carriers chime in on the subject. If Motorola started offering unlocked devices through AT&T for example, would VZW want a piece of that action?

I think it's Motorola's indicisiveness that is keeping the company from being a more global contender.
 
ursus, if moto makes a statement on bootloaders it would be made public and we all would have known about it... not saying your wrong, just saying usually moto would address the situation publicly, and moto has already released a razr with an unlocked bootloader overseas, since verizon controls the droid name we will not see that hear, as verizon wants the bootloaders encrypted to protect their users..

so regardless, dont expect to see any unlocked bootloaders from moto on verizon...

it would be great if they made a website, much like htc has to unencrypt/unlock the bootloader and send that message to verizon and that would prevent someone bricking their device and sending it back to get it replaced.

just sayin.

Corporations like Moto do not communicate information like that with individual end users...they just dont...they issue press releases with that type of info...

Moto has always stated they would work with the carriers with this...now for all we know Moto knew all along that VZW wanted nothing to do with unlocked bootloaders and by saying it that way they are just appeasing consumers for the time being knowing full well they will never have to act on those comments...

Moto and VZW have a VERY close relationship in regards to the "DROID" name...remember it was Moto/VZW that launched the whole DROID craze with the OGD...it has made both companies boat loads of cash...

youre absolutely kidding yourself if you think Moto isn't a TOP player in the mobile game...


Moto is NO saint in this situation...I HATE their stance on bootloaders and wish they would give us the option to unlock it...id gladly forfeit my ability to return the phone due to software issues if i was able to unlock the bootloader, as I assume many would...

Moto's hardware is just THAT good that as long as Android is popular the DROID phones will be right at the top of most peoples wish list...

and as i've said before, and stand by it...if Moto offered an unlocked or unlockable device to the general public...the Nexus phones would be dead in the water...

RAZR MAXX with unlockable bootloader vs Galaxy Nexus is a landslide victory for Moto no doubt in my mind...developers and the general public would be all over that...
