N.E.A.K. Gingerbread kernel (v1.x)

First impressions fab, smooth and quick. The ota update worked great.

question about updating ota. Usually I use hawkers kernel napalm script but doing automatically ota this step is missed out. Presumably this ain't a big problem moving from 1.3 to 1.4??
 
Simone seems to have preferred GS2Blitzer to my GS2Wiper script.
Personally, I use GS2Wiper as it leaves startup scripts alone, so for example your ROM specific startup scripts remain in tact.
GS2Blitzer is intended for people who may have been flashing different kernels left right and centre over many weeks/months and don't have a clue the state of their startup scripts. So in such instances, a Blitz is preferred, as it just wipes all startup scripts. I developed the checkrom init.d startup scripts restore zips for this reason. (versions 4,5 and 6 are supported in separate zips)

GS2WiperV1.2 is being developed today. This will include the removal of Voltage Control settings from init.d. I find after flashing a kernel, I like to see what the new kernel's default VC settings are first before I start tweaking.

No, I've not PM'd him but I think I will because I am just stumped.
Things I have tried:
Wiped Cache, wiped dalvik cache, ran kernel cleaner, flashed via CWM recovery and flashed via odin.
All result in the same thing, bootloop, no recovery only download mode.
The only thing I have not tried is a full wipe but I don't really want to do it again as i did it when I updated to Checkrom V6.

try flashing LA4 cf-root via odin
reboot
then flash neak 1.4

if that fails, try the above again, but create a .tar file with neak's zimage and flash with odin instead

Still get bootloop, also tried flashing the zImage in CWM manager :(
 
Seems some people on XDA have the same issue.

EDIT - I had a bit of spare time so I decide to go through the full wipe method.
I did a full wipe, re flashed Checkrom V6 rebooted, wiped cache and dalvik flashed neak v1.4 and voila bootloop :/
This Kernel is just not compatible with my phone.

Very strange indeed butty.
Did you PM Simone, and if so, have you had a response?

Do you have an external sd card? If so, does it still bootloop when it is removed?

Only other thing I can think of is to do an absolute death-or-glory wipe and also format the internal storage, and possibly do a re-partition in Odin
 
Just decided to give this neak 1.4x a go for 1st time ever and after few hours , i can say it's more smooth and battery friendly than siyah :) ofc before flash i used hawker's wipe script 1.4 and no probs at all. I'm impressed tbh... but waiting for 2.6.13 for comparing :)

NEAK has been a cut above since 1.3.3 came out in my opinion.
I get better battery life out of it, and its on a par if not better than Siyah in terms of smoothness/lag etc (for me may I add, others may have different findings)

Any I really dont like Siyah's hyperdroid/redpill whatever it is version of CWM recovery. I find it difficult to read with my old man's eyes! :)
 
Early days yet but my initial reactions are.... "I'm lovin it!" :D

With my combination of scheduler, governor, tweaks and u/v'ing... I'm getting even better battery and performance than the previous version.

No problems or hiccups to report so far. :)

Will report back after I've given it a damn good thrashing!

Yes I sent a PM yesterday dinner on here and on XDA but with no reply. I'll give it a go without the SD card see if that makes any difference. If that doesn't work I'm done with this kernel, its a bit of a faff formatting internal sd as well, I have quite a bit of stuff on there.

EDIT - Still a no go without external sd card :(
 
wary from changing from .3 as its probably the best kernel ive used, im getting 2 days out of it with fairly heavy use on stock settings.

So why haven't I flashed the new Siyah 2.6.13 kernel?

The answer is simple... N.E.A.K. v1.4

It is, without a doubt the best kernel, for me, that I have trialled so far. After nearly 5 days of use it has been silky smooth, fast and the best battery results I've had so far.

Now, don't get me wrong, NEAK is not for everyone. By that I mean that it is only designed for Samsung based, non ICS, ROM's, such as CheckROM, and for the Galaxy S2, i9100, International version.

It is also the smallest kernel around, at 4.28MB as compared to Siyah at 7+MB, but don't let this deceive you... it packs a powerful punch.

In the time I have been using it, I have experienced no FC's or SOD's despite the heaviest u/v'ing and u/c'ing I've applied to any kernel.

The NEAK kernel is not open to o/c'ing as 1200Mhz is the upper limit, but why would you want to, as it is blooming fast? I actually u/c mine to 1000Mhz as that is good enough for me. I start at 200Mhz as this offers more of a battery saving, IMHO, than setting it at 100Mhz with only a marginal u/v saving. My reasoning being that it is better to start at 200Mhz than 100Mhz for the sake of only, say, 25mV as the higher Mhz will allow the phone to return to idle and Deep Sleep a lot quicker.

NEAK v1.4 can also be configured a lot easier than its predecessors thanks to the NEAK Configurator, free from the Market. See here:-

As for battery usage, that is very subjective and will be different for everybody. All I can say is that I am getting the best battery of any kernel I have used so far. With average usage, for me, I can expect around 25-30 hours and with heavy usage, for me, 16-22 hours.

Hey Ironass,

Does your battery meter drop drastically when you change kernels? Mine went from 54% to 22% when flashing NEAK. I removed battery battery for 2 min and reset it and it went to 34% only. I'm guessing I have to charge phone and remove/reset battery stats ?
 
It's not kernel related but down to hardware. This is one of the drawbacks with the gs2's fuel gauge chip. It never needs calibrating but it can get a bit confused on a reboot when the power gets cut. When it drops like this you will find it gradually creeps up even when not on charge. Nothing at all to worry about. When it happens to me I just stick the charger back in to get it up to 100%.
 
I can fully agree with ironass! :) havent tried siyah 2.6.13 yet as im really happy with neak 1.4 . Best kernel, suiting my needs so far! :)
 
Been on 1.4 for two days and gotta say i'm liking it so far. Very smooth scrolling, probably the smoothest so far, where I found 1.3.3 was not quite as smooth as 1.3.2 for me.
