Root Rom issues

I decided I better bring my wife's NC back from the dead (it's sdcard was dying).

So I copied everything over to a new sdcard, brought CM7.1 up to date, backed up everything, then decided to give CM9 a try.

Did a clean install of the latest nightly and installed Nova launcher. I found the touch screen very iffy. Things like trying to add a widget to the desktop (by long-pressing) or trying to remove one by long pressing, was difficult and took several attempts, since the screen would just twitch back and forth. Also apps that worked fine with CM7 and on my Touchpad with CM9, would FC.

So I've gone back to CM7.1 and will try CM9 in a month or so.

It sounds like a bad build. It seems that every other newest build is unstable. Using a couple of the older builds I didn't have any issues like that, but on some if the other nightly builds I had similar and other problems.

When I get home ill check the latest stable cm9 build I've been using without issues and pm you the link to it.

To sum it up, some of the nightly builds are more stable than others. It seems as they update some things, they accidentally break other functionality lol.

Rom manager always had ratings of the nightly builds. I miss that. Also a pain to install via Goo manager since it downloads via your browser, which means your DL probably is in the download folder on the sdcard.

I have since added a 2nd Gmail acct (mine has many more paid apps) and installed CM7.2 Mirage. Now need to figure out how to install V6 w/o screwing it up. At least I created a backup first. :D

Lol true, I do miss that.

V6 ran funny for me at first, it would only supercharge to 50%. After messing with it I finally got it to supercharge 100% and my NC runs great. Word of advice.. use build prop not local and allow it to integrate, it wont make you lose root access on the NC like it has reportedly done on some other devices. I promise :p

Hmmm.... I did local, 'cause it sounded safer. :D

Guess I'll be running it again.

It was pretty slow after running, it, but did pick up. Worth the trouble, IMO.

There was an update for Goo that I think also integrated a browser.

Today I was prompted to update my Touchpad rom and it downloaded more like Rom Manager.

Apologies for jacking here, but could you recommend V6 setup for a rooted stock nook color? Thank you.

Colchiro sorry for the late response, the ics build I'm using right now is update-encore-20120218-tnp.

This build is super stable. Also, run v6 supercharger with it. The latest script mind you.

There have been some changes in ics that make v6 not completely work without some modification of services.jar. its not hard to do, check the v6 supercharger thread over at xda.

However to save you some time I can upload my modified services.jar for you to use. Its a flashable zip, just flash it like an update, not a rom, in other words don't clear dalvik or anything. (I know you know these things bro lol, I just like to be as detailed as possible)

After you flash the new services.jar it will be ready to use v6, if you don't use a modified services.jar launcher settings and oom groupings won't stick.

After the fix and running the v6 script, ics actually runs FASTER than gingerbread lol.

I did all the work for ya lol, just let me know if you want my zip. (Btw, services.jar contains no personal info, or anything that makes it unique to our devices, its perfectly safe for you to use mine, and me to use yours or anyone else's for that matter. It won't Confuse your nook :-P )

Use the latest script. V6 will actually recommend what settings it thinks you should use.

On that note, I ignored its recommendation lol. I use option 8, which is 768HP (aggressive). Even though its a bit more aggressive than the recommended settings, I've had zero issues with it. My NC FLIES with these settings. Smooth like butter.

Remember, the recommended settings are just that, a recommendation, that doesn't mean you have to follow it or that its necessarily the best choice for you. Its not unsafe choose a different option, and won't harm your device.

If you have any issues getting your settings to stick or any other questions, let me know. I'm always here to help.

Edit : apologies for the double post Colchiro.

I appreciate your generous offer, but this is my wife's NC, not mine. She's got MS so starting to develop some memory issues (among other things) so I don't want to overwhelm her with changes. She didn't seem to mind/notice CM7.2 (Mirage) so I might be able to do more. :D

I already updated her Touchpad with ICS (booting up now) and we'll see how that goes. If she's fine with it, I'll take you up on your offer and update her NC, o/w might have to restore a backup.

Totally understandable, and I'm sorry to hear that your wife has ms .. my wife's aunt also has ms, and they are very close. I've seen how tough it can be a times, though I'm sure its even harder when its your spouse.

Hopefully she won't have a hard time with ics, it really is a beautiful os, even in its infancy on the nook. Let us know how she likes it :-)

Wishing happy days and good health to you and yours friend.

Thanks.

There's two kinds of MS, one where they get sick, then improve (Relapsing remitting). My wife has the other kind (progressive) where it just gets worse. She's still able to work so that's good, but stairs are going to be a problem, maybe this year. We'll see.

Just finished with CM9 on the Touchpad. Took a screenshot and put most things back in the same area. As much as I'd like her to use it for other things, like email, she primarily plays games on it. As long as she can do that and turn it off, she should be good.

We'll see how that goes and think about updating the Nook in a couple weeks.

Thank you. I will experiment a little. Much appreciated!

I just installed it yesterday and noticed that my phone is very laggy and in settings-->apps it is seen that apps are restarting (this may cause the lag). Also settings from dropbox, keyboard etc do not stick.

Do you have anything on this?

Phone: nexus s gt9020
rom: AOKP B31
kernel: Trinity 1100 mhz

You installed what exactly? Do you mean you ran the v6 script? If so, and you have apps closing and restarting at a rate so aggressive as to cause performance issues, try dialing v6 down a bit. Try using a lower setting, and see how it does.

Sometimes it takes playing with the settings a bit to get v6 in that sweet spot for any particular device. What setting work on my nook or galaxy attain may not be what's right for you.
