Eris to v2.x, when?

And THIS boys and girls, is one of the many reason I decided to wait.

If the OTA version number is higher than the leaked version you will indeed get the OTA upgrade. If the offical OTA upgrade has the same version number it will not upgrade as there will be no difference.

Downloaded and installed... Works great so far, and seems more responsive than 1.5 even after I installed all my apps. Only thing is that there are a few apps that I can't seem to find now. I paid for one Camera app (forgot the name now... Camera Zoom I think..) and it doesn't show up. And was hoping to at least get to try the Live Wallpapers but I guess our version doesn't allow that. Oh well, at least we finally have 2.1!!! :-)

With all the excitement of upgrading to 2.1, has anyone pondered the FACT that this 2.1 Leaked software came from an unknown source?

Could it possibly be loaded with some sort of Spyware or other malicious Payload that hasn't been caught? Is anyone even checking the code?

Curious...

Perish the thought.

Sigh.....

If you install the ROM and then it's sent via OTA, you will NOT be upgraded unless the version changes.

Period. Point. Blank.

When testers have newer software on their phones, they do NOT get the OTA when it's released.

I don't get your reason to wait. From what I gather, if you wait and get the OTA and the ROM doesn't get the upgrade that means the version hasn't changed. Assuming this is tester software, and we don't get changes when the OTA comes, doesn't that mean our software is newer or same as the OTA? If we do get OTA update we then are in the same boat. So from logic it looks like win-win for the people who got this. So boys and girls this is why updating now seems logical.

the devs at xda, after finding the file was incomplete, combed the whole thing and patched it.

i am sure if there was something shady in there, they would have said something.

for some reason I cant get any HTC widgets. I remember somebody posting about not being able to download HTC widgets from the "get more HTC widgets" menu, but I'm not even able to add a setting widget (such as bluetooth or wifi buttons). I go to the "settings" menu under "add HTC widget" and I just get a blank screen.

Anybody else having these problems?

A non-answer answer if I've ever seen one. Still interested in where your code came from. I understand if not telling us is a matter of not getting someone else into hot water, but then just say so. :-) No need to be cagey and coy.

What is screwing up the downgrade is the fact that the new bootloader stays on the phone while the 2.1 rom is erased.

Just saw this on the internet. After eris users perform the unauthorized upgrade to 2.1, everytime they check the software screen to marvel that they finally have 2.1, a kitten dies.

please, please dont do this upgrade. think of the kittens.

I'm trying to reconcile that statement with your earlier, "yeah i am pretty sure the code was checked, i hope for you alls sake it was...."

what does it mean when you "copy the file to the root of the sd"??

im just so afraid of screwing up my eris right now....

it has all my contacts for employers, friends, families, etc....

and how is a sure fire way to backup my contacts???

Sorry to fixate BUT and I know people said the phone dialer is "snappier" - but I am looking for something a bit more specific.
Currently (under ideal circumstances) when I hit a "dial button" (either Send, Call or a contact) it generally takes about 2 secs (actual time) before the call actually registeres on the phone and more or less the same way when hanging up. [Press End Call, then wait about 2 sec before call actually ends] - [this lag is much worse when the phone is busy with other tasks]

With 2.1 is this dialer issue eliminated - that is - are you (the collective) saying that now button presses have near instant response - or is the lag just lessned.

Any info on this would be helpful.

well im not sure what to tell you, i mean that is what i read. i talked to one of the devs that worked on the patch last night on IRC and he seemed confident that it was fine and was running it on his phone.

hmm "you alls" whats that supposed to mean? Is the rumor that you got a different one true?

yes, it's true, but i can't tell you anything else....we are all running the same exact software/build/everything, except i got mine a bit before the leak on xda from a different source.

Check the "Tips and Tricks" sticky for how to back stuff up. To copy the file to the root folder, just drag the .zip file onto the "removable disk" drive in "My Computer." Don't navigate into your phone's SD card and place it anywhere, just plop it down through the my computer screen and drag n drop.

Going through the process now myself...

Rather than retype I'm going to keep it simple.

Here's the .zip file you need.

And Caddyman has the easy-as-pie instructions.

Good luck! I'm about to take the plunge myself. I think.

Copied everything off SD card to laptop, then formatted the SD card via the phone.

Downloaded code
plugged in phone
copied to root directory of phone ( E: drive on my laptop )
Double-checked in Astro, it shows /sdcard has PB00IMG

After volume down+power button, phone powers on, I get SD Checking... and some images it's looking for that aren't there, then finally says Loading...[PB00IMG.zip]

The blue thermometer in the top right eventually hits the top, then it says Checking..[PB00IMG.zip]

Then I see HBOOT ( white text blue background ) and below that are <SEND> FastBoot Mode and <VOL UP> Recovery.

I press trackball, nothing. I press SEND, takes me to FASTBOOT ( white text red background ) and <VOL DOWN> HBoot Mode. Trackball does nothing.

I press VOL DOWN and it goes to previous menu and starts the Loading...[PB00IMG.zip] all over again, thermometer hits the top.

I tried VOL UP recovery, i see the three droids on skateboards, then it takes me to a ! in a triangle and phone lying on the ground.

Do I press the trackball on the HBOOT screen and just wait??

I pulled the battery and powered it back on, I'm back up on 1.5, so I didn't break anything, just can't figure out why the HBOOT menu is not "taking".

EDIT: Ok, I must have downloaded the wrong image. I pulled down the image from the link provided above, went back through the process, now I see <ACTION> to apply update, it's rolling now :) yeah!
