Root Which root guide & which rom?

Ecky

Newbie
I rooted my x8 when I got it last year, had to get the screen replaced, got it back this week and the repair guy put the sony firware upgrade on it taking it to android 2.1-update1

This has pretty much wiped out everything so I wanna get ti rooted again and all my apps etc back, but when I came to the site there's now 3 root guides on here:

[NEW SuperOneClick] Root, Install & Use xRecovery on Xperia X8

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8: All Things Root Guide

SuperOneClick 2.1 Root :D

Which is the preferred guide to use now? The NEW SuperOneClick seems to be the latest one so should I use that, just wanna be sure before I start

Also on the NEW SuperOneClick guide it gives links to three roms

Upgrade your Xperia X8 to Floyo 2.2.1

Installing Gingerbread 2.3 ROM on Xperia X8

Installing GingerDX ROM 2.3 on Xperia X8

Don't know a lot about the different android versions so what benefits are there to using gingerbread or gingerdx

I don't even know what the differences are between gingerbread and gingerdx so any info there would be helpful too, also do most people use gingerbread or gingerdx (I assume gingerdx is a modified gingerbread?)

Hi,

There are new tools to root and install xRecovery.
There are also new Custom ROMs available for the X8.
All are based on Gingerbread 2.3+ ROM so there is very little difference.

BUT... not all Xperia X8 are same. Some phones have different complications when the different roms are installed [for example: My Xperia X8 cannot use GingerDX too many FCs and I don't know why].

SO... the best is to try a custom rom and if it has issues move on to another custom rom. Also before you change a custom rom it is advisable to wipe everything. (factory reset [full wipe], wipe system cache, wipe dalvik cache and wipe battery stats.)

I suggest you try this order...
1) GingerFast V2
2) GingerXperia v23
3) GingerDX v23b

Good luck.

cheers :)

Cheers for the info mate

I'd already tried this one before I read this: GingerXperia v23, but it wouldn't boot, kept going into a sort of loop on loading the splash screen

I then installed GingerDX (it was the only other one I knew about at the time) and so far it seems to run ok so I'll stick with it for now and maybe try something else if I start experiencing issues
