Siyah Gingerbread kernel (v2.x)

I flashed 2.6.13 *(through CWM) yesterday after running the GS2Blitser and everything seemed good. Worked great last night and half of today, then I encountered a problem. Keep in mind I never adjusted any settings.

It was about half way through the day when I pulled the phone out to use it. My screen was black no matter what I pressed, the home button, power button, or volume + or -. But I know my phone was on and working, because when I took a screen shot, I heard the camera noise.

I ended up pulling the battery out, then it powered on as normal and has been fine since......or maybe so far.

Has anyone else had this happen, or what the hell happened to mine?

Sounds strange. Syiah has very little UV and wouldn

Maybe your launcher crashed. I get a blank screen if it happens to mine and then eventually it gives me the option to force close it - then it restarts.

I have had this happen a few times. I just assumed this was a SOD and I had to wakeup my phone. My phone will come back if I hold the home and power button for about 10 secs.

Are you using GB or ICS ? Which ROM are you using ?

GB and stock 2.3.5 firmware

I've had something like that, but only when I undervolted. You sure you didn't do it by accident :P

I am sure, I looked through the settings but that was all. I did swipe one of the settings once, however, I then hit "discard changes"

I ended up using my nanoid backup to go back to just prior to flashing the kernel. Maybe it was just a fluke or something. Who knows, maybe I will try it again

Thanks for the replies.

You guys are dropping the ball with Siyah updates.

Siyah v3 alpha7 is out!

Changelog:
- insecure adb although we have ro.secure is set to 1
- sdcard issue is fixed (hopefully. please test and report)

I shall definitely test and report tonight. Hopefully this fixes the horrible voltage control issue with alpha6 that crashes my phone if I try 800Mhz maximum (stock kernel does this fine).

I think it's almost safe to say that GB is soooooo 2011 ;)

Edit: And Siyah v3 alpha7 doesn't fix the 800MHz Voltage Control issue. I'm starting to think it's another general samsung issue rather than a problem with AndyX or Siyah. Looks like 1000MHz will have to do for now.

Hi Kie, just wondering what this 800Mhz issue with VC you are having is? I've been running 200Mhz - 800Mhz for a while now and have never had a problem with anything crashing. I haven't run Siyah in a while though, but while running CheckROM v6 and NEAK, I haven't even had one FC or SOD(unless undervolting too far of course), so I don't think it can be classed as a general Samsung issue just yet..

Ahh...that makes sense now, I assumed Alpha 7 was the first ICS release of Siyah and completely ignored (even though I had just read) that the ICS kernel doesn't work in backwards compatibility with GB ROMS. Don't mind me, I don't know what I'm talking about.

So does Siyah help at all for battery life on ICS? Until someone fixes that issue, I will stay on GB...

I can easily say that stock ICS kernel on my device gives me more battery life than any of the GB kernels. that is for my usage pattern of course. I can get 1.5day with more than 4 hours of screen-on time.
I experienced no unexpected wakelocks with the stock kernel. no wlan rx wakelock or fuelalert wakelocks since the day it was released.
siyah alpha does not help with the battery life (or if it does, it should not be noticeable). it adds some functionality (rooting, removing root, unsecured adb with ro.secure=1, some tweaks which I have no idea about and efs backup...etc)

I released 2.6.14 with some major changes.
why? there are several reasons:
the main reason was droidphile's message this morning. he asked me to add gpu staycount and also touch recovery as in neak. the reason that I accepted his request was ironass's mufasa&simba post. he said that the new touch recovery has made it close the gap, which I hardly agree but it's a thought of a user which I should respect.
this version is for those who wants the better for free :)
I mean the configuration interface and the app: ExTweaks.
together with voltage control or setcpu (which are already proven themselves in that area), there is no match...

Thanks gokhan.
Your new touch recovery is fabulous. Looks very nice indeed with a brilliant ui.

however, on .14 my wifi no longer works, and if I try to toggle wifi off/on via the notification bar, the phone reboots.

I fixed it. it was because of the new compiler. I used the old-good-one.
you can download it again and it will be fixed.

I loved this touch method. I cannot remember the name of the user that I got this (it's in my blog and very hard to spell) but it is better than koush's last version I think. scrolling and selecting/going back with gestures are better than selecting with touch.
I never liked to press buttons. also, touch-selection may cause some mistakes.
this virtual-keys and gestures are better I think.

I noticed the fix in the xda thread thanks gokhan.

I agree, this touch recovery you have in.14 is stunning. Very easy to use and looks fabulous. I also like the small touch of showing the battery percentage. Handy if you're weary about starting off a flash our not.

Thanks again gokhan. Testing .14 right now. So far so good! :)

I hated CWM recovery when I needed to select a file from my download folder because it was very hard to navigate down with volume keys...

did you notice that swipe right=select and swipe left is back? :)

Yes gokhan, it really is great to use. Simple and intuitive.

The kernel is not bad either, is holding up well too so far.

Thanks for this unexpected surprise golden nugget gokhan. :)

hello gokhan and all.
Noob question for a new sgs2 user. i'm using last nightly cm9 and wanted to know if i can install your last kernel 2.6.14 on it?
thx

Why?.... no one else round here does! :D

Am downloading Siyah v2.6.14 as I type.

On a personal note, it is very good to see that you are still supporting this GingerBread kernel as I am sure that there are many out there, like me, who will not be switching to ICS immediately, especially LPQ, until it is 100% stable and usable and developers such as LeoMar & GadgetCheck, (ChecheckROM), JKay and others, start supporting it.

No comment. ;)

.14 is running here without issue. One nice touch - default.profile isn't overwritten during the flash so my ExTweaks were retained.

What I'd love now is an enhanced ExTweaks with the ability to configure and save multiple profiles. If it also had hooks to work with Tasker.... think of the possibilities!:D
