Swype avail for Eris

True, but as a touch typist I'm finding it impossible to unlearn to use the spacebar. I still put to spaces after periods! It's just automatic to hit that space bar for me. Oddly I was able to learn to slide my finger around a keyboard, but I can't overcome the urge to space. Go figure.
 
Yea..it's as simple as long-holding and selecting text-input. God I feel dumb.

So, the newness of swype has worn off. I still type faster with the HTC keyboard. I try and practice with swype because i know if i can master it, i'll type faster. Just, i need to sit down and program a lot of words that i use very often.

Part of the learning curve! You let your finger lose contact with the screen after the "o" in downloaded. So it thought the next word began with a "w" and tried to compensate. That *DOES* get easier as you use it. The first few days I did that all the time, and came up with some rather amusing sentences.

You guys are so confused.

The select bar isn't to touch the word you want. You swipe in the direction. Read the Tips. If you want the top word, just touch ANYWHERE in the box of word choices, and swipe up. If you want the second word, swipe toward the top right, The middle word, swipe straight right. etc etc.

You don't have to SELECT the word. You just swipe in a direction. See the little lines around each word that lead to a corner or a side? If you slide your finger off off the edge of that word box ANYWHERE between the lines that enclose that word, it'll select that word.

I apparently missed that running the tutorials when I had it on the Omnia. I never installed it on the Eris since I found SlideIT before it was available for our phone. Good tip. Thanks!

I have installed this several times and still cannot get it to work. I go to settings-->lLanguage & Keyboard --> check Swype

It does not give me the option to input text using swype, nor does it display the swype keyboard.

Please help!

Open any email/text client and long press in the section that you want to input text. Select Swype.
 
Just installed 2.1 and thought I'd delete my old swype and download the less bloated, english only swype. I followed all of the instructions again.

Now, when I long press in a text field, I just get "Insert Quick Text". What gives.

Using Astro, the swype files reside on my SD card under assets>keyboards.

Help?
 
There is now an official Swype beta for Android.

Go to Swype | Text Input for Screens and you can register. It says they have a limited number of participants, but I got a download link immediately after signing up.

I had to uninstall the leaked version, and they actually install an installer on the phone, which requires you to log on and then it downloads swype. Kind of annoying.

The version is 1.25.16.5612.t100, which is newer than the latest leaked version. The only changes I have noticed so far are:

* Option to vibrate on each new word. I quickly disabled this after trying it out.
* Word choice window has been made nicer and bigger (still the new curvy shape though).

The installer app size is 108k, and the Swype app is 4.36mb (after installation, not sure what the file size is). Included languages are English and Spanish.

Edit: Double tapping a word to get the word choice window still does NOT work.

they say it's closed...
 
It is closed. All you can do now is fill the info our and wait. Like google voice. Hopefully they will reopen it at some point
