Swype avail for Eris

so i just downloaded the one at the top of this page. should i download the one below it instead ? which version is the best or quickest? thx

as long as its 1.16 the speed is the same... the only difference is the install size. 7MB thru 1MB. the difference in those version is the number of languages, and if you want a help file, or images in your help file. but if its 1.16xxxxt you'll get the same general performance.

if you know how to use swype, and you dont need any other language just get this one at the bottom of this forum linked, its says its the 1MB version (fully optimized and streamlined)

Swype Lite - Page 3 - xda-developers

Someone made a lite version with the .png files optimized (half the size, so the program goes faster, but almost the same quality visually) and with the other non-english languages taken out. it's around 1.2megs

Scan this with barcode scanner, then Open with Browser, then click the link provided in the post.

Maybe this is more acceptable.

do not download this one. if try to type "****ing" it says "ducking" and you can't double tap "ducking" to switch it to "****ing." I realized this right after downloading this version because i opened up a text and told my friend this application swype is "ducking" awesome. tried to get it to switch to "****ing" but it wouldn't. I even read the tutorials on there website. Will be downloading the one above this post....

if you type fu**ing out it should save your keystrokes and then you can swype the word..... i think?

you have to type each letter by itself. so click each key instead of swiping. so if you want it to learn words or curse words you have to manually type the word then click spacebar. so for ****ing. i did "F" then "u" then "c" then "k" then "i" then "n" then "g" then click "spacebar" after that it learned the work by manually clicking each letter then clicking spacebar. now if i swipe across ****ing it types it for me. lol

sorry for all the ****ing curse words. ooops

i love ****ing swype. **** i did it again didn't i?

you can type so ****ing fast with swype. damnit!

Maybe I didn't use the search tool right, but nowhere in this thread did I find any references to the differences between Swype version 0.35.whatever and 1.16.whatever. I successfully installed the older one last night, and it seems to run quite well. Is it worthwhile for me to uninstall and use the newer one, or like the old saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it?

BTW so far I really like it. The sense keyboard I thought was pretty good, but after one day's use I'm really loving Swype.

The 'Lite' version actually has the .png's optimized, and they are about half the size. So virtually all of the graphics show up, load, and disappear faster than they do with the normal 1.16 ones. Just look for one that says Swype Lite. It's faster. has full graphics and tutorial. Just english. Perfect.

This is the version I have installed, after trying 5 different ones (5.3mb, .98mb, 1.8mb, a 2mb, and now this Lite one), and the Lite one is seriously significantly faster than the others at popping up, loading the other keyboard (when you hit the numbers instead of letters, for example), and is just as small and useful as the other 1mb ones (1.9mb-ish) until you build your dictionary.

I'd use it. This one is my final answer. Download Barcode Scanner, if you haven't, and load this up.

It's the lite version. 1.16. English. All graphics and tutorial intact. Fastest version out there.

Perfect.

Dude that was so easy, you're a genius ;p

I have the Swype.micro.1.16.apk which is 1.00 mb version which once installs becomes 1.92mb. Works great!! Has all features! I think it's the one you posted up with the image to use the bar code scanner. Good looks dude! Also, how do you post up the bar code image? Like how do you create the bar code image?

Thanks,
Chris

Just edited first post to make things easier for ppl to direct link to ur post. Thanks man.

In square brackets, you type 'qr' then a link, then /qr in brackets after.

Here is how it works:

Android Forums - BB Code List

It's the same as any other bb code. so use IMG (with square brackets around it) before the source of your image and /IMG (with square brackets around it) at the end of your image URL.

So you could do (qr)http://www.apple.com/(/qr) and that would be a scannable barcode for Apple.com, if you replaced the () parentehses with square brackets instead.

I'm a new smart phone user and a never-before forum member but I just had to say how much I've learned from checking in on this forum daily.

I especially want to thank droidkelvar and pkopalek for Swype! What a huge difference it makes to my enjoyment of the phone and now my friends are not complaining that I don't respond to emails.

Be careful...this forum becomes very addicting:D. Esp with all this 2.X talk...but swype does take away some of the itch until then.

WOW, that way easy! One note though. If you have the older version installed (like I did) you need to uninstall it before installing the new one.

I had the old Swype a while back. I got rid of it and went to the compact qwerty and was happy with it except for a few minor annoyances.

I must say that for me, the 'new' swype is WAY better, faster, has curse-words built in, etc.

Oh! While messing around I discovered that if you long-press the trackball in a text field, you get the same option window as a long-press on the screen itself (select text, copy, cut, etc). I found that in the editing process after typing a long email, this trick shaved off a few seconds here and there. In the long run it saves me a lot of time. Sweet! I am probably the last one to figure this out though...

Just wanted to share my happiness. :) Thanks to everyone for their contributions! This forum is truly amazing.

This worked perfectly for me using the barcode scanner I installed a while back. I didn't think the scanner would serve any real purpose until now.

Big thanks for this post!
