Updates just check for lesser versions, that's it. If there is a lower version, it updates. If not, it doesn't. If it has the same version, it does nothing.
Are you sure of that? It makes sense, but there's a strong memory I have of an update for my 8330 when Verizon took over Alltel; my Blackberry was up to date but was on the cusp of a roll-out for an upgrade when the takeover happened.
There was controversy in the forums and even with the Verizon and Alltel techs (no surprise there) as to whether or not it was expedient to accept the latest Alltel update at that particular point in time.
Some went ahead and accepted the new software. I did not as didn't most others preferring to await the Verizon version.
The accepted updates could only be partially seen by the Verizon version once the roll-out in our area invoked and people were streaming to their (formerly Alltel) Verizon stores and waiting in line to have their Curves updated.
