Root Build a Custom Rom

MyndCTRL

Well-Known Member
I was wondering if I could get some help. I am interested in building a custom rom for my Galaxy Prevail. I've been using some of the ones already built, and not to say they aren't great because they all have their great qualities and I love them all just as equally but i'm looking to make my own flavor. Each one of them roms has a little something I would like to have in my custom rom. However I was wondering how would I go about making such a piece of software?

Where would I need to start?
What tools would I need?
What coding knowledge would I need to posses?

I'm pretty literate when it comes to computers as I work in the IT field, so I have some knowledge already of linux and windows as I dual boot between Windows 7 / Ubuntu. I am not the greatest programmer but I do know some C programming from my college days. I basically know enough to get me by.

However im just looking for a little guidance from the dev's especially. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your time!

I can help you the best I can, I just setup my Ubuntu installation, all I have to do is prepare the environment with the Android SDK and stuff. If you need help let me know and i'll be willing to give you as much help as I can give

you know, I remembered reading something once.....
"Under GNU/linux systems (and specifically under Ubuntu systems), regular users can't directly access USB devices by default. The system needs to be configured to allow such access."

found that here: Initializing a Build Environment | Android Open Source
under Configuring USB Access

What kind of adapter are you looking to setup? My ubuntu installation recognized all my usb devices. Even my wusb54g wireless card, I was shocked! lol

I think typically any newer linux distros would do the same thing i would image...
