Root [Rom][5-3-12]Broken Out Rom 2.0

that thread doesn't exactly bring to mind thoughts of easily porting my girlfriend's breakout.

 This tutorial really explains how to make MIUI ROM. If I were to use a tutorial I would choose this one. This is very well explained and not all that complicated even if you do not have the best of programming skills. I'll be borrowing a Linux running platform in 3 days, so I'll look into taking this ROM and making it a MIUI ROM :D

I just ment based on the replies of the people working on them. I guess I havnt had that much trouble so far.

Can the 1.0 version of this rom be used? I have seen a lot of back and forth in the thread concerning OTA vs non OTA

I would start off with the 1.0 ROM, and if everything works from there use the updated 1.1 ROM :)

ok so im trying to make it but i dont know what information is supposed to go in the makefile... like the apps that need to be modified and the ones that need to be removed.

Flashing ROM
1. First you need to clear all cache in CWR
2. Flash Broken Out ROM 1.0
3. Now reboot, pull battery at Splash screen
4. Clear all cache again (may seem redundant but I assure you its not)
5. Flash Broken Out ROM 1.1
6. Reboot
7. Pull battery and officially boot up the device.
_________________________________________________________________

As for the rebooting....this is because as you charged your device to completion the device set a new log information set up. Basically your device cleared the information that it took in from the bootlooping in first boot. If your device is not bootlooping as of right now than it should not do it again, no reason for a re-flashing of this ROM. If this does happen again then a re-flash would be best, but if you are up to it than I would say install a custom bootanimation as another option ;)

PS: I have flashed the device this way have not seen any instance of bootlooping or fatal battery disturbances.

Thanks to mtmichaelson for this great development :D

Thanks for taking the time to write out these instructions, however as a novice user I still have no idea what to do. What is CWR? How is it different from CWM? Initial instructions say I have to wipe data. How do I do this? Initial instructions say 5.) Go to install zip from sdcard. How do I do this? Your instructions say 5. Flash Broken Out ROM 1.0. How do I do this? Your instructions say I have to pull the battery out as it's restarting and then put it back in and start up normally? is that right?

Sorry if I sound frustrated but it's just maddening that just to get this phone to be functional I have to be an expert in all this hacker terminology.

P.s. yes my phone is rooted

1. CWR stands for Clockwork Recovery, which is just another word for CWM.
2. It's an option in the main menu when you reboot in to recovery(power + search)
3. Also obvious once you boot in to Recovery.
4. to flash the ROM (after you say flash zip from sdcard) you just select the .zip file from your sdcard and then say yes you are sure you want to flash it.

It is all actually remarkably simple once you have CWM installed and you boot in to it.

Thank You for explaining this out in detail :D, as I have been absolutely busy with everything. I'll take this post to apologize to all of you who were expecting my Theme to be done a while ago, life just got obstructed by school, career, and plenty else. So please don't be mad :o

PS: If you need any live help check back at freenode Web IRC (qwebirc)
Channel: #pantechbreakout, I usually like to leave my computer on this site, and if I happen to stop by while you're there I can help. Other than that keep posting for help. :)

Thanks for writing this, but I ran into a problem. I used Rom Manager and clicked "reboot into recovery". Then I backed up my old rom, wiped the cache, wiped the data, and then tried to install the 1.0 rom zip file.

It said "E:signature verification failed". Worse, I think I may have lost my root, which took me an hour an half to figure out how do to using some PDF with instructions including me using command prompt. Is there an easier way to re-root? Also, why did I get this signature verification failed error?

Thanks

I had almost completely lost faith in this phone before this rom came around. Thank you very much! I will definitely keep up with this for as long as development continues. Its very nice to have a rom developer in such a small community.

ICS Launcher is bloatware, unstable, and contains malware. Included is picture of trojan.

Trojan:AndroidOS/Plankton.A Microsoft had this one tagged, that's funny.
I would recommend removing ICS Launcher for devs and users of this ROM.
I recommend pro launcher as it is lightweight, stable and malware free

Anyways, nice work on the ROM, nice features quick to install and use. Definitely much better than stock. Keep up the good work!

Ugh!

The ics launcer was only used for the initial boot after installing rom. I am guessing that the trojan rooted my phone then? Any ideas for removing it?

Been emulating and digging through information on plankton. Not a good thing to have. Discovered first here Plankton More info here PLANKTON.P. I checked official syndicate apps website and downloaded all versions. All contain Plankton Trojan. They are without a doubt a bad group. It appears kaspersky, avast, and supposedly smart guard will remove the infection strictly from the ICS Launcher infected apk.
Checked all through many malware databases to check Scan of ICS Launcher
Smart guard is saying removing the infected application may be enough. Resource Center > Plankton
I haven't found any conclusive information other than to remove the application directly and that the antivirus mentioned will pick it up and ask you to remove the application as well. Been peforming full system scans without any threats thus far, though this trojan is intended to be well hidden. Time will tell, for now I highly recommend that this ROM is reviewed and the threat neutralized. Look at it as a chance to make an upgrade on the launcher :D

As the developer worked hard on this and he is not to blame. I am quite thankful for all the work done and having a nice ROM on my android. Thank you mtmichaelson

I'm confused. I have Broken out 1.0 installed and have been using ADW launcher, not ICS Launcher. I have always had Lookout, and have installed norton (now removed) and now avast and nothing has found any virus. Is there any way that we could not have the virus? ICS launcher is on my phone, but it is not running, is that why I'm not seeing this problem?

I couldn't find the files the virus creates either.. Plus I never got the "Android apps" icon it is said to add. Who knows.

just FYI the "QQ launcher pro" works very well with this ROM. Dare I say almost better than ADW. It has a Miui like apperance and theme chooser funtion. Its worth checking out.

Thanks basoodler, I'm trying it right now. It works for me quite well, so far no freezing issues or anything like that. I had that with ADW.
