Root [Root] One Click Root for Samsung Admire (SCH-R720) :: Windows/Mac/Linux :: 9/12/2011

Ok so this is the first time I have ever tried to root a phone and all is well accept I have tried atleast 3 times and it keeps just stopping at this...

Code:
error: unknown host service
"
[*] Triggering core dump..."
[1] Segmentation fault app_process /dev...
"
[*] Rebooting phone. It may buzz a lot and loop on boot. Don't panic."
remount succeeded
410 KB/s (0 bytes in 26264.000s)
link failed File exists
"
[*] Installing Superuser.apk. If this hangs, just cancel it with Ctrl+C after a
 few seconds,"
"
[*] and you'll be finished rooting your phone. Reboot and enjoy."
472 KB/s (0 bytes in 196521.000s)
        pkg: /data/local/tmp/Superuser.apk
I have tried doing the control C and then just downloading superuser from the market but so far I believe I am not rooted and suggestions?

Is it possible that there is another way to root my device? i've tried numerous times, and it still hasn't worked.

Give me a few minutes..will upload the original root that I used and exactly how it was done
:D:thumbup:

An old root for the admire? interesting..lol

The OP was updated as I don't recall seeing this before
"
[*] Installing Superuser.apk. If this hangs, just cancel it with Ctrl+C after a
few seconds,"

Using this:
admire-root-windows.zip - File Shared from Box

Got it done exactly this way:
http://androidforums.com/admire-all...dows-mac-linux-9-12-2011-a-7.html#post3958093

Just make sure the drivers are installed on the prior to beginning;)
In the OP:D

Got this rooted last night. Installed the stock deodexed rom and now it's no longer rooted. Redone all the steps here a few times. Even installed Superuser.apk manually as stated in one of the posts above. No luck. Any help would be great.

Edit: Also downloaded the old root from the post above. It doesn't even get to the Ctrl+C part.

Edit2: I mean it goes through the same process as the new one. Nothing changes that I can see.

Hmm..gonna have to think about this one(I swear every phone has its own personality:(

Alright. No rush. The phone still functions. Just wanted to remove the bloatware for him so he can have some extra space. Trying to get him into the world of Roms lol.

Been a crazy good day here  oxymoron..LOL
Picked up an extra Admire today...ahh yes..will figure yours and my new one.out after some zzz's:D

Yeah, sleep is sounding pretty good right about now. Did you buy the extra Admire? Or someone trusting you enough to let you mess with it?

One of.each..found a wholesaler up here who constantly has customers.asking bout rooting-modding-ect. He doesn't have the time for.it. I do right now..its a win win:D:cool:

Just checking to see if a fix has been found.

Even with the drivers installed I can't get my - let alone the two other ones I have tried- on to recognize the phone..grr:banghead:
Will get back at it in a bit..need a breather;)

Ok, i'm about to loose what's left of my mind. i bought an admire in january and rooted it with the links i found here. it wasn't easy. i had to try several times before it finally took. over the weekend my roommate had a bunch of people over and my phone comes up missing. i had moble lookout security on it and locked and wiped it. i guess they nevre turned it on because i could never find it. anywho, that phone was 2.3.4, i went and bought another one and this one is 2.3.6 and i can not seem to get it to root to save my life. yes i have it in debug mode, yes i installed superuser first and then titanium backup. last time i would try to open titanium backup and it would tell me i didn't have root and as i was reading in the forums i saw where someone said to use a root checker, so i downloaded one and checked and it said i did have root. after that when i opened TB it worked like a charm. this time when i use the root checker it keeps telling me, no root access. i'm ready to shoot something. the computer moniter, this phone...my roommate..no not really i wouldn't shoot her. i've had all i can handle of this for tonight. hopefuly tomorrow someone will point something out to me that is staring me right in the face that i just can;t see, oh, i have a full charge on my battery and i've changed the usb cable out. i've clicked on all three of the one click download methods for windows

thanks, i've read the forums forever, this is my first post.

Welcome to AF anna:D
What are you seeing exactly on your CPU as you attempt to root it:confused:

but whenever i run the "run" file i get this
error: unknown host service
"[*] Triggering core dump..."
error: device not found
error: device not found
error: device not found
error: device not found
error: device not found
"[8] Rebooting phone. It may buzz a lot and loop on boot. Don't panic."

thats it, nothing happens with my phone and it stays on that line for a while without doing anything. debugging is enabled, i installed the drivers and whatever it said to do. how long do i have to wait? i've been up for quite a few hours trying this with no luck. should i just leave it up and sleep?

Does anyone have any more detailed instructions on HOW to install this on my phone once I download it? also; when I unzip the file and extract it to another folder, when I get there the "run.bat" file is nowhere to be found, but it does seem to run on my computer when I click on it before extracting it someplace else. But it just opens a command prompt looking screen on my win desktop, and then that goes away.. is that all there is to it?
Please advise,
thank you :-)

I am using Win7 and have my Admire connected and in USB debugging mode, and I did this step; "Install the Samsung USB drivers (download), unpack the archive, and open run.bat."
After I did that step, my win7 told me I had installed some new files for my Samsung admire and each were completed.
So then I moved on to downloading the Windows root;
It downloaded to my computer, I extracted with 7Zip to a temp folder on my windows computer, and then I clicked on Run.Bat, a black screen came up on my computer with a bunch of stuff I didn't understand, and at the bottom it said to click spacebar, so i did, and then the small black screen disappeard,.
.. but NOW WHAT?
I dont notice anything transferring to my phone.
I dont see any difference with my phone when I unplug usb and play around with it, everything seems the same.
Where was I supposed to extract the root file to?
Where was I supposed to run the run.bat file?
On my computer as I did, or was I supposed to somehow transfer the run.bat file to my PHONE and run it there somehow?
IDK
I am confused, IDK what to do after I download the file and open it with 7zip on my computer.. what do I do then? What are the steps?
It did nothing to my phone when I clicked on Run.bat, the last one.. only that black box that looks like a command prompt opened up on my computer screen for a short time and then I clicked spacebar.
Was I supposed to extract the files and then copy the files to my PHONE using drag and drop? And then run the root inside my phone?
IF so, what folder out of the long list of folders that are on my phone, which folder/what location do I drag and drop the "Admire root" or "run.bat" into? Which one do I drag and drop to my phone? The entire download of "Admire root" or just the "Run.bat" section? Do I just drag and drop (transfer) one of these downloaded files any old place in my phone? Or a specific folder? Am I even supposed to do that? Or was I doing it correct by running the run.bat inside my computer? IDK because that did not seem to do anything. I would not know HOW to run the file if I am supposed to transfer it to some folder in my phone first.. how would i open the run.bat file there, inside my phone? I am so freakin confused man.
Someone please help me out :-(
Thank you,

What are you seeing exactly on your CPU as you attempt to root it:confused:

Ok, I can tell what kind of day this is going to be. The only way for us to log on to the internet is by wifi tether & no one is here to do that. Luckily, when I rooted the first time I wrote this down & it's the very same thing. (on a side note about tethering even after fixing the allowance for that in my build prop, I always got the metro warning. My roommate as the esteem, rooted & never has any problems)
Anyway, this is what my CPU says:

ERROR -unknown host name
"[*]Triggering core dump..."
[1] Segmentation fault app_process/dev....
[*] Rebooting Phone It may buzz a lot and loop on boot, Don't panic"
Remount succeeded
Cannot start 'su' no such file or directory
link failed file exists
"[*] Installing Superuser.apk. If this file hangs, just cancel it with control + C after a few secs
"[*]You'll probably be finished rooting your phone. Reboot and enjoy
Can't find Superuser.apk to install
Persistance complete, enjoy your rooted phone

Ok I hand swyped that in so if there is something small that is off it's probably a typo. I wrote this down when I was.rooting the first one & this is the same think that, came up last, night. The first time, I did have to try it several times but last night I tried for hours!

Dang! I was hoping when I woke up someone.would have a magic answer for me. I really need root so I can tweak my build props & get rid of crapware
