Root s-off may be around the corner

me too... not much to see really. looks like they are gonna log into your linux box remotely and work some kind of magic.

i pretty desperately need to get outside and cut the grass,and do some stuff,but i cant leave the computer,lol
 
yeah, i've got my Linux box sitting over here i can blow the dust off of but it sounds like they already have enough testers anyway. good thing cuz my wife may not agree and technically it's her phone. :)
 
im not gonna be able to concentrate on anything till they release it,lol. did have someone on another thread confirm that he was able to test and used the method to get s-off with the ics hboot. that makes me pretty happy :cool:

It'd be nice if it works out. Better yet if somebody could get temp root and combine it into a tool that would bypass htc dev. :)
 
OK, clue me in. What will S-off give us over unlocked and rooted? Will it give us the ability to flash roms from the SD like we can from the ol' trusty Inc? OR is it for something else. I thought i had this stuff down til i got the rezound!
 
I hope they get it but I'm beyond unimpressed with the operators of that channel. You can't say a word in there without getting threatened with a ban. I saw jcase lurking in there. I'd laugh my arse off if he preempted them with a tool of his own. He swore off the Rezound though over some altercation that ticked him off so I doubt it.
 
i agree completely with that iowa. in their defense,folks have prolly been driving them nuts,but still,they could be a lil less of an ass. heres what happened when i tried to find out what was going on:

It doesn't say no comments of any kind allowed. If you can't talk about anything else but the exploit (no off topic) but yet you can't ask about anything that actually involves the exploit or its progress then...you can't really talk about anything right? :eek:

LOL, yeah sorry :p ;) :)--I saw and was surprised when I was reading through your XDA thread (and the other, more snarky one about the exploit) that you didn't have your GNex anymore. But the Rezound is a great device and it sounds like you got a development model? (pretty sweet!)

I don't think those folks over at XDA realize why S-OFF would be so valuable for them in the (hopefully) unlikely event they got themselves into trouble. You, more than most, appreciate how to extricate those folks from sticky situations.

thanks a bunch mister scary! i will try and not disapoint :D

i did like my gnex,but it just wasnt the same for me,after having all these htc devices. ive just become too big a fanboy,lol ;)

prices on them are starting to drop,so i may pick up another one later,possibly a gsm one,if i can find it(assuming they take a normal size sim) but the dev rezounds are about as common as chickens teeth,lol. i figured id have it to do my sinister experiments,and have my s-on one for daily abuse... if id known an exploit was around the corner things may have been different! :D

Yeah I don't think even most of the actual testers understand the benefits of s-off from what I've been reading SA. I do miss HTC phones for this reason but I'm afraid HTC Dev may have been more of a negative for me than a positive. Seems like people are less likely to try and find an exploit since it's unlockable. But...I don't like my bootloader marked with a scarlet letter.

Hboot is such a superior interface though for my money. I do love the Gnex but it's kinda the exception to the rule for Samsung phones IMO. Kies...Odin, not interested. Once you know hboot, you can bring back any (fixable) phone from the grave with the same, wonderfully repeatable methods. HTC definitely got it right.
 
scotty85: hhmm...are you not the Clean ROM developer Scotty? Seeing all the help you contribute both with posts and sticky's led me to believe you were a developer of sorts. Just curious is all. Thanks for poking around to xda about this :).
