Root MetroPCS Tiered 4G Plans

You should see all the pissed off customers on their Facebook page right now. Everyone is saying they're going to switch to Sprint's unlimited or go with Verizon. Metro just ****ed themselves royally.

I have a family plan with my Esteem and my moms Admire which comes up to $98 a month since I was added to the plan back in August. I purchased my Esteem sometime in beginning of February. So far I don't see anything reflecting my account so I'm guessing I was grandfathered in?

I know something y'all dont know HaHa. Can't say it but it is DEFINITELY big and TRULY big but cannont take credit for this find. WOW!!!!! This is going to be immense!

You found the news that metro will be uncapping their speeds?

It may or may not... the person that truly deserves the credit for this knows as much as I know apparently so we are trying to gather information about this matter and that is actually the biggest obstacle as of right now.

Ah well hope you two over come that obstacle. What ever it is. But you did dramatized it so it must be huge!
P.s. This is kind of funny cause I'm watching oceans twelve lol

I posted a new thread on what we talk about earlier. Ill update as I find out more

This is from there Facebook page i changed the persons name to customer lol

MetroPCS Hello customer, existing customers on the $60 service plan are grandfathered in and will remain on an unlimited 4G LTE service plan for $60 until they choose to switch to one of the new 4G LTE service plans. Thanks, KD

My only question is when in Gods green earth are they going to uncap the speedssssss

They aren't capping LTE speeds. That's as fast as they can go pushing LTE signal through narrow 5x5 channels on unusual frequencies.

Verizon has 10x10 configurations on lower (better) frequency.

IF Metro ever gets more spectrum they can go faster but if the additional spectrum is on a different frequency, current Metro LTE phones will not benefit.

They're planning on switching everyone to LTE next year so they can use their AWS spectrum for LTE.

they do that and they will end up loosing a lot of costumers. people aren't going to pay those prices. most people get metro because they can't afford the other guys, if you are just going to have the same prices as the big boys why would people stay?

And that is exactly why Metro screwed themselves over.

Metro keeps SAYING that but then doing the opposite. They've been saying that for two years now.

Their "bread and butter" are the low-cost CDMA-only phones. All the crappy "feature" phones we've all graduated from. Plus CDMA-only Androids and Blackberry.

To switch everyone to LTE, Metro has to stop selling CDMA-only phones IF they are going to turn off the CDMA (EVDO, 1xRTT) transmitters in-market. Right now, all their CDMA roaming agreements with Sprint and others are for out-of-market. When in Metro markets you use Metro signal, whether CDMA or LTE.

If Metro turns off their CDMA transmitters and go LTE only, then ALL their customers with have to have LTE phones. But if Metro turns off, their CDMA transmistters, and all their customers have to have LTE phones, then they need to STOP SELLING CDMA-only phones. Yet very soon, they are introducing yet another CDMA-only phone -- even if it is an Android -- the "LG Optimus +" (an updated version of the Optimus M -- but it's NOT LTE.) And they still sell the HTC Wildfire S, Samsung Admire, and ZTE Score, etc.

[Now, LTE phones for Metro will ALWAYS continue to have CDMA chips also. Metro will never sell LTE-only phones. Our LTE Esteem is LTE + CDMA, as are all Metro LTE Androids. The CDMA part is so we can have "nationwide" roaming with various other CDMA carriers -- most notably Sprint.]

So, either one of two things have to happen for Metro to use their AWS spectrum for LTE:

__________

1) Stop selling CDMA-only phones and sell only phones with LTE capability. When Metro starts doing this, it will still take about a YEAR to turn off the CDMA transmitters because people will sue for just buying a new phone then not be able to use it a month later. :p But every time Metro introduces a new CDMA-only phone (Hello LG Optimus +!), then that's at least a year delay in turning off the CDMA transmitters.

OR

2) Strike an expensive deal with Sprint for in-market CDMA "roaming". All the Metro LTE phones would run on Metro's network, in market. All the CDMA-only phones that Metro can't seem to stop selling would run on Sprint's CDMA network, per some kind of agreement. Metro could then switch ALL their spectrum over to LTE.

Metro could then keep selling CDMA-only phones as long as they wanted.

______________

Those are the only two scenarios that would work, and either one is expensive. For two years, Metro has been saying they are going to switch their spectrum to LTE and turn off the CDMA transmitters -- but they keep rolling out more and more CDMA-only phones. Metro's like a crack addict. "I know I gotta stop doing this crack (CDMA) and get a job! What the heck. Give me another hit!" ;)
