well GB update for my desire hd on orange came out a few weeks ago. same update on vodaphone was in december. i would reccomend doing what you have to do to root and get a custom rom of ICS

You are talking about GingerBread on a totally different handset with a totally different carrier... not very helpful I must say, to suggest rooting a phone and voiding the warranty.

i was merely showing an example to convey my thoughts on how slow orange are with their updates. rooting ( if you know what you are doing ) doesnt really pose too much of a risk and your phone can always be taken back to stock for say to fix a hardware problem

You may not be aware that Samsung, in an unprecedented move, are releasing branded firmware ahead of sim free. Already, in the UK, Three and O2 branded handsets have received ICS whilst the unbranded UK phones have not. See here:-

Except that this is a topic about official updates, not rooting. Plus, the warranty is still void even if the handset is reflashed to stock.

although there should be custom roms for ICS.

There are, but again this isn't the topic to discuss them. See the All Things Root sub-forum for relevant threads.

Orange branded handsets, CSC code ORA, have had ICS via Kies, released today, 13th April. See here:-

I've upgraded today via Kies on my Orange branded handset from 2.3.5 to 2.3.6. Kies isn't showing any further available updates.

I see this on samfirmware

I9100BVKL1 2.3.6 2012 April I9100ORALB1 United Kingdom (Orange)

I would have expected a bit of a fanfare!

I think

UK (Three,O2,Orange) - 4.0.3 Update Available! (13/04)

should have been

UK (Three,O2,Vodaphone) - 4.0.3 Update Available! (13/04)

That's like something I would do!
