Root [VIDEO TUTORIAL] Change your lock screen text

V SuperUser V

Android Expert
By popular demand I'm releasing a tutorial on how to change your lock screen text.

I actually found this by accident while looking for something else.

Before i start I would like to thank all Devs for all their work.

Some Devs like MT use this text on the lock screen to put the name of their ROM and kind of 'brand' their ROM. I respect that, and so should you all, but if you still fee like changing this text to accommodate your own then continue reading.
WARNING: Follow this GUIDE and make changes at your own risk. Always have a back up of the files you are editing and a full nand back up doesn't hurt either.

FAILSAFE: Because you could end up bootlooping if you don't follow the Guide step by step I recommend doing the following BEFORE you start :

1- Pull your SystemUI.apk and framework-res.apk from the phone.
2- Go to UOT kitchen and upload them like you were going to do some themeing.
3- Make a small change (change the font which is easy to change back)
4- Submit your work and wait until is fully cooked :D.
5- Download it, and put on your card.
6- If anything goes wrong after you follow the guide, you can always flash the theme you just cooked and everything will be back to normal.
Perhaps you dont need to do all these and there could be an easier way to go back to normal but i find this a lot easier than having to restore a full back up.

Another method to go "back in time" suggested by Fuzzy13 is to COPY the file you will be working with and keep it in a safe place. If something goes wrong and go into a bootloop apparently android commander will read the phone and give you enough time to push the original files into the phone before it bootloops again
I. What you

Hell yeah. Keep em coming dude. I'd rather see more and more posts about guides and how tos then posts about iphones and that damn connect. Sick of it.

But this is awesome dude. We should have a section in the root sticky for posts like this asking with the tools needed, commander, autoapk, xml etc......

People like this shit and it should be made easily available. :D

Theres only one sticky :D The ATR Guide. Theres just too many things to sticky individually and dont want anyone to think something that is stickied is any better then something thats not. But like my other comment I linked both your guides in the ATR sticky.

If anyone finds something or post something that is a guide, tut, rom, kernel, etc, etc if you shoot me a message with a link and I can get it linked up quicker. ;):)

Can i get my adb Android commander post stickied under tools? Unless there's a more detailed thread out there.

Either way it should definitely be under tools one way or another.

Copy your framework-res and systemUI in Commander before you push anything. Will default copy them to C:

So now instead of making a theme all you have to do is push those 2 files back to your phone if anything goes wrong. I think that's easier than making a theme for a backup. All you need is those 2 files. That's what I do at least. :D

What if you are on a bootloop? You cant just push them, yet you can flash a theme via CWM ;)

If Im on a boot loop I can still open up my phone in android commander. :D

Trust me, i boot looped about 20 times yesterday trying change shit in the Broken ROM. lol.

Your phone gets recognized very early in the boot process so you can open up commander and push the files and do a reboot through commander. Voila!

Oh yeah. Once you delete the framework file the boot loop will usually stop. Letting you push the other file quickly and reboot before it resets. ;)

Mmm....interesting, perhaps advanced users like you and me are quick enough to replace the files. The not so techy ones may not be able to do it properly. I still think a flashable file although it makes the process more time consuming is eeasier

Oh yeah for sure. All you have to do is make it once and you have your backup.

For me personally though I hate waiting on my phone to reboot so the less times i have to boot and reboot the better so I just swap the files out. I don't think I've ever got caught half way inbetween when the phone reboots. Usually it stops as soon as you snatch that framework out, so then your free to take your time.

Just another tool in the tool bag lol ;)

+1 yup just make a flashable file ;)

I want to thanks those who, like me, put guides together to teach others. Because of them and their guides I learned how to Mod my phone to my likings:

-Idrifta
-Fuzzy13
-Gbiggie
-All the Devs
-everyone else I forgot to mention
;)
Appreciate that man:D
Nice Job!

I wish I could do this and change the text on the drop down notification bar but it's way out of my comfort zone. :( I still appreciate the work your doing though :D

it keep saying error and that it cannot find the specified file or something about it already existing:confused::confused::(
