I'm gonna try to kick this back on topic..

So the fellas at AndroidandMe have re-updated their story that they got from us regarding the Incredible, and have now included a screenshot of the supposed "6 GB ROM"

I still don't buy it. The name and firmware version on the option screen can be changed as shown below:

http://phandroid.com/2010/01/25/android-3-1-on-htc-phandroid-phone/

So, maybe the ROM/RAM can also be changed to display something different.

Had to post. Not because of the new developments, not because I have new information to add, but because you're not hearing from enough women. Not everyone eagerly anticipating the Incredible is a guy, and there are a lot of men who can't figure out their phones until their patient, loving wives show them how they work.

(Ducks from the stones that are sure to follow)

We dot throw rocks here. Unless your you know who *cough*newsradio*cough*
I am female as well :)

Possibly. I'm just the messenger here to relay the message!:)

Well the Samsung Galaxy does have close to 8gb of ram, but sadly we never got it here yet.
ram or rom? theres a big difference there. and in the post i got from Androidandme, they are referring to the rom

I still don't buy it. I can't find it now but I remember reading somewhere where you can change a settings file that will change the display of any of the fields on that screen.

Well if you can fake the camera data on Flickster or another photo site to pretty much say whatever you want it to then i'm sure faking the ROM/RAM wouldn't be too difficult.

This is either a hacked file or a clever photoshop job. If it were an actual screenshot then why wouldn't he have a digital camera picture of the phone showing that 6.60GB number?

Woops I mean rom, for I think storage, or at least storage for music + a microsd card slot(kind of like the new Omnia II).

Take it up with this guy:
Stephen (Stericson) on Twitter

He is the source of AndroidandMe's 6 GB Rom and the screenshot. He has also posted a "supposed" dump for the phone as well, but unfortunately I have no clue how to read lines of code so its worthless to me. Check out his older tweets for the dump

WHEW!!! That took me more than an hour to get through. Damn I work a 12 hour shift and this place explodes. I got a warm tingly feeling, *down there* LOL, when I saw how many pages this grew. I knew it had to something from NTK. Thanks soooooooooo much for the pics and info NTK! I was starting to loose faith in my Incredible but it has been restored. I'm alive ALIVVVVEE! Sorry, it was a long day :)

I'm loving the look! I actually like the accents on the back. Better than a plain flat back.
About the speed. The word BLAZING is enough for me!
Looks like your take it for what its worth is DEF WORTH IT!!!!! YOU ARE AWESOME NTK :)

boy this thread really slows down around 445 am..haha i guess its time to hit the ole dusty trail..3 more days til the moto devour everyone..! woohoo haha

Wow, no post in over 2 hours. What did you guys do, go to sleep or something? Seriously, though, I find 6gigs believable but NKT said he never saw that so...

Ok so I have waited all night to post. Being that I was at work where there is no computer to sign on here. I read peoples posts but I can not reply on my BB Storm.

I know now that this phone is what I am getting. I was swaying back and forth. The only reason being I was not sure if this phone would have enough RAM/ROM. I was all for the optical track pad. I am still all for the Snapdragon. Main reason I was all about this phone in the first place was that I would underclock the 1Ghz SD to 800Mhz. I said that about 20 pages or so ago. I am glad though now that they have done this for me. But I am now wondering about the rumor I heard about the processor speed stepping under load. If that is true and it does crank up to the 1Ghz that it is said to be then I am going to be a bit disappointed. I want the 800Mhz so I can save battery life. Speed step will not help me in that endeavor. Meanwhile I am going to truly enjoy this phone. There seems to be nothing that can be said about this phone at this point that would sadden me. ASSUMING that the rumors on the Ram/Rom are true.

Hello all.... Been a lurker for about as long as this thread has been active, and with all that's transpired with NKT's revelations today thought I might throw out a question. I'm not very well versed in the technology of mobile phones, but in reading up on the snapdragon had a thought-- if the 8650 supports GSM and CDMA what is keeping this phone from being a "world phone"?

From my understanding the processor controls all the radio function, and an antennae is an antennae- as long as you can access the frequencies processor-wise there shouldn't be much limitation to using them.

Do you need a SIM card, or can that information be integrated into the software/firmware as a unique identifier of each unit?

In my simplistic understanding- all a SIM card does is give a unique identifier to the individual phone on the network- it also gives you the option to use a GSM phone on different networks by replacing with a SIM for that provider.

Long story short- could Verizon activate GSM band communication like they did for the BB Tour for use internationally only without the SIM option so you would have to pay roaming charges to VZW for your airtime in other countries... Kind of a sucky second rate option, but at least the phone isn't a brick on international travel.

Other than that I guess you could depend on Wifi and Skype for intl calling...

Anybody know anything about limitations that I am missing? My guess is that i am missing something pretty huge or else google would have adopted this chip for the Nexus one- added a SIM slot and said "free for all- give us 530 smackaroos and you can take this badboy to any network anywhere- the processor has support for every provider the world over- pick the one that works best in your area..." Their "revolutionary" marketing scheme would have been much more revolutionary if they hadn't tied the phone to a single provider or technology by choosing a chip limited to GSM band.

If you go to a verizon store check out the inside of a storm 2. There is a sim card in there for a worldphone but that sim card will not work in the states for other carriers just in other countries.

Ok so not sure if this was asked to NKT or not but here you go NKT or to anyone else out there....

What are the chances that they could do a release similar to the Eris? Most of the people that I have talked to within Verizon (not customer support or sales reps) are saying 2 android phones coming out the same time as the Devour. Official release date of the Devour is 3-25-10.

It would make more sense for them to sell the Incredible a week or two before the N1 since they are carrying the inventory for this and would rather see themselves making money (not a whole lot) off hardware that they carry then Google.

One other thing...
I would think that Verizon would sell the N1 on the same date as their UK partner Vodafone...which I think is early April (maybe the first). I would assume that Google would make a deal like that since they can get both parties to the table at the same time.

Just my $0.07....

A simpler understanding for all of us... Put a little perspective on it all.

There are two types of people in this world. These two different types are going to buy a new car. Magically they narrow it down to the same two cars.

Car A is a v8 with 350 horsepower. It is foreign so the customer service is pretty shabby. Parts take a long time to get in, they don't give you a loaner car when you do need repairs, and you have to buy the car before you even get to handle it.

Car B is a v6 with 330 horsepower. It is a foreign car too but it is sold through a domestic dealership. The dealership stays in business by providing service to this car. They keep parts in stock, they will be in your area to answer questions right away, and if god forbid your car is a lemon they will replace it or loan ya something while you wait for repairs. It's got a little less go but gets 5 miles more per gallon and has a sweet leather interior and cool cockpit displays.

Type of person 1: Goes to dealerships and says I need the car with the most power. It has to be at least a v8 with 350 horsepower. The domestic dealer tries to persuade him to his car. Listen all I have is a v6 but it only has 20 horsepower less then the v8. You also get better gas mileage so you don't have to stop for fuel every 4 hours on trips. Also it has this great interior. "Don't believe me, go take it for a spin."
Person 1: "No, sorry. It doesn't have a v8. It's not good enough for me."
goes to foreign dealer. Dealer says, "I don't have one here but if you pay for it I'll get you a v8 car." Person 1 agrees and buys car A.

Type of person 2: Goes to dealerships and says I need a car that is FAST. Foreign dealer says I got a v8. It is awesome. I don't have one here but if you buy it I can get it to you. Here is a brochure. Person 2 says he is going to look at this other car. He goes to the domestic dealership and they show him right to the car. He gets in it. "Man this leather interior is nice. Oh it looks like it gets a little more MPG too. Can I drive it?" Sure! Person 2 goes tearing around town. Damn this thing is FAST! Dealer says, "it sure is. Best part you can have this one right now, if you ever have any problems just stop by and we'll get you fixed right up." Person 2 buys car B not really caring about the number stuff but more about his experience with it.

So ask yourself. Are you Type of person 1 or 2? And just in case some one is real slow Car A=nexus one. Car B=Incredible. Person 1=people who are basing a decision on a number. Person 2=people who base decisions on real world application...aka the sane ones. haha

<---- after mods has close to 385 hp in his v8 <3

Every person I have seen with a gas guzzler bitches and moans every time gas gets above $2 a gallon. :)

maybe true, but this winter I got around 13mpg, tops. I was kinda like

but everytime I start my car up and hear the v8 rumble and feel it at idle I'm like :)

I think you're going to see the N1 and Incredible announced at CTIA, with the N1 going on sale via Google almost immediately.

The Incredible isn't slated for launch until April/May. And my money is closer to May. I'll split the difference and say April 15th :p

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well do you have any info as to the other Android phone coming out around the 25th of this month.

Hmmm.... I must say, in a strange way, I'm glad that I pushed the issue on the 6 gb ROM spec over at Android Central. It seems as if it forced him to divulge his source.

So, we know that he says the specs page he was shown states that there is 6 gb, but we also know there is a way to go into the specs and manually change them. I don't know what to believe.

I will say this. The more the merrier, but I would be surprised (pleasantly) if it was true.

I am not the shaprest knife in the technology drawer but could the 6.60 GB of ROM just be the phone reading the removable storage card that the phone comes with?
