WonderMedia WM8650

i have a problem, after successfully loading uberoid on my wondermedia wm8650,everytin is working except for my call function,it stopped recognizing my sim cards,i'm in nigeria, pls any help?

I have a soundlogic net book with the wm8650 model number, I'm very happy with it, however, I know with out some witchcraft you can't do anything with the android market, mine is basically something cheap to travel with, I won't worry about being stolen or damaged. That said you'll understand my question, since I have no intention of purchasing any app with this device for fear of some account being accessed if device is stolen. Is there a free app that will read microsoft text files or current versions of word perfect, Documents to go, only goes to 2008 and the update is only available on android market or other markets not supporting wm8650, slideme does not have documents to go app. Any help is appreciated.

Norfolklady, just press the physical button, or the camera screen has a back button you can press as well.

Eran, if you have the 3G model you need a different ROM. Don't worry, I had accidentally tried to load the 3G on my unit and it put it in endless bootup animation. You just need the right ROM to put on your SD card. Try this one.

Uberoid_WM8650_2.2_v1.2.2_NL_20110414_8-HcH.7z

Hi all.
Would anybody know how can I remove this ROM? It made my 7" tablet WM8650 WAY out of calibration and useless, and furthermore it will not read from the sdcard a new ROM. It keeps reverting back to existing bad ROM (perhaps bad for my device, no offense please). I tried the reset button, also managed to settings/factory defaults but NOTHING it will not have it. It is very badly out of calibration, useless! What is worrying me is why it does not read the sd card for a different ROM?
Any advice please??
Thanks

Ya I was wondering that too, I'm new here cause I'm still trying to figure out how to get my computer to recognize the sd card. Have a ton of PDF's to transfer over. Plugged in with USB and it doesn't see it (dubugging is on)

I'll prolly have to read all posts here, maybe someone has a fix?

Finally found the solution on downloading apps on the market apps :)

so you trying to connect tablet as a USB device then ? thougt you trying to see SD card in or via card reader to put new firmware on to flash on PC

Naw just looking to move some PDF's over from PC to tablet. SD reader on the PC doesn't want to work either. PDF's that I do have DL look really good with adobe though, foxit reader and officesuite I'm not too crazy about

Ok I've been searching around and it looks like I'll need an SDHC card reader so my pc will read the 8gb microsd card. fairly cheap on new egg. Guess xp won't read anything over 4gb

Hi, I seem to have a problem with audio, everything else seems fine, is there an audio driver or file that can be used?

On my MID WM 8650 I am using MID703 on Universal Uberoid V9 rom (after trying out many others including Hybrid and Modroid roms)...seems pretty smooth except no audio and battery indicator at 100%.

does anyone has a clue as to what could be the remedy for this problem on wm8650 units or roms

hmm ..its pretty weird...if i plug in a earphone i am getting audio on the built in speakers but not on the earphones ..pull out the jack and no audio on the speakers

thanks in advance and any advice would be appreciated

Here is some info thanks to HardcoreHacker from TeckKnow site

Code:
When you have no sound on the WM8650 using Uberoid there are several solutions:

[B]#1[/B] Try another option from the changer (recommended)
most models are support but some need another option in order to work 100%

[B]#2[/B] Open the env_uboot in a hex editor:
this fixes the problem when there is sound but only from the headphone jack and not from the speakers.

[B]change:[/B]
[I]setenv wmt.audio.i2s vt1603:f1:f2:f1:f1:100[/I] *
to
[I]setenv wmt.audio.i2s vt1603:f1:f2:f1:f1:ff[/I] *

[B]or[/B] the other way around, then reflash (or use wmtenv set to change it with a terminal emulator)

*this is an example, instead of vt1603:f1:f2:f1:f1 the could be something like wm8900:ff:ff:ff:ff or something else

Also don't forget to report when you need to perform this fix in the ROM Problems section of the General Discussion. (include your changer option number!)

[B]#3[/B] Try another driver, only if all above fails!
setenv wmt.audio.i2s vt1603:f1:f2:ff:ff:100
setenv wmt.audio.spi 1:0:0 (NOTE: Some devices require this value to be omitted)

setenv wmt.audio.i2s vt1603:f1:f2:f1:f1:100
setenv wmt.audio.spi 1:0:0

setenv wmt.audio.i2s vt1603:f2:ff:ff:ff:100
(no wmt.audio.spi 1:0:0)

setenv wmt.audio.i2s vt1603:f1:f2:ff:ff:100
(no wmt.audio.spi 1:0:0)

setenv wmt.audio.i2s vt1603:f2:f1:ff:ff:100
(no wmt.audio.spi 1:0:0)

setenv wmt.audio.i2s vt1603:f2:f2:ff:ff:100
(no wmt.audio.spi 1:0:0)

setenv wmt.audio.i2s vt1603:f1:f2:ff:ff:ff
(no wmt.audio.spi 1:0:0)

setenv wmt.audio.i2s wm8900:ff:ff:ff:ff
(no wmt.audio.spi 1:0:0)

You're not going to like this, you must try every one of these. There are even more possibilities other than these!

Now I recommend you to use ConnectBot to try these settings out:

1. Use any terminal emulator
2. su
3. wmtenv set wmt.audio.i2s wm8900:ff:ff:ff:ff
4. reboot
5. test sound, test headphone! (* if there is only sound from the headphones, try fix [B]#1[/B])

I notice that a lot of people are having similar problems to me with this device. I'm currently using it to type this with my PC keyboard. You should all visit Tech Know (google it), download the Uberoid ROM V11 and then follow my little guide:

Obtain the following:

1: Uberoid Rom, Unzipped on your computer
2: A MMC larger than 512mb (for the flash files)
3: Your WM8650 (duh) fully charged and switched OFF.

Firstly, make sure you back up anything you don't want to lose. Considering how slow this thing is from stock, that shouldn't be a lot. It's also a good idea to confim your model in the "settings>About menu on your tab. Next is prep for your memory card.

Open the Uberoid V11 folder you downloaded and in there is a .bat file called changer. Click it, this will then open a cmd window with a list of numbers. If you have a 7" tablet then DO NOT use the 8" options and vice versa. Get the picture? If you try to flash an 8" ROM to a 7" tablet you WILL brick your device. Same goes for other sizes. So a 7" tablet needs a 7" ROM. All options are marked with the screen size, just read them carefully.

Mine for example, is a WM8650 7" BUT is also known as the M009S/D and other names. So you select an option (numbers 1 to 62) in my case option 30 was the one I needed. Type 1 and hit enter. The program will the ask you if you want to transfer the neccessary files to your SD card. Type"N" and hit enter. The program will then ask if you would like to format your SD card and THEN tranfer the neccessary files. Type "Y" and hit enter. Now this part can take a few minutes but trust me it will save you a HUGE headache. This programs format tool imo works much better than windows format. Nuff Said!!

Once this has completed, it will tell you to press any key and close itself, this is your que to remove your MMC and insert it into your WM8650. Once inserted, boot the sucker up and then LEAVE IT ALONE untill the flash process completes. This is also a time consumer so grab a brew while you wait. Once it has finished there will be a notice under the loading bar that instructs you to remove the MMC. Do as you are told. The WM will auto reboot and finalise the installation. If succesfull you should be presented with a blue bee and then a nice honeycomb animation. Let it run through this and you will be presented with your shiny new desktop. Patience is the key. Oh and you might want to keep your charger handy as this will deffo drain the battery. If you find that there is no touch response or an issue with something else then you may need to try one of the other options. Simply delete the folder and file that changer created on the MMC and then select your new option but this time you can just go straight ahead with the transfer. Format with this .bat seems to last till you don't need it.

There are other tweaks you can make to the ROM before flashing but that's for other tablets. Like I said the Tech Know guys are geniuses and if you're really stuck, get on their site and read their forums. There is TONS of info over there.

My guide is for anyone's use but if you brick your tab then it's your own stupid fault. Any questions, chuck em my way and i'll do my best to help.

hi thanks for reply. its a 6.98 inch 800*480screen. believe its via wm 8560 80 mhz 256mb ddr ram.(its red lol)it is green light version,(green rom stalls) was trying roms and the blue light version seems the only one to work but cant get on net wifi wont work. will re install then work through the how to file and let you know. yes tried rt3070 aswell

os 2.2
kernal 2.6.32
build 1.5.5

Have you tried option 30? Also as far as I was aware, the blue light ROMS won't work on the green light tabs. It sounds like you have the same version I do.

When you load up Changer.bat there are option within it that allow you to enable/disable the 3G call funtions within the ROM. You need to type "X" hit enter and then type the instruction for it. Just type x and hit enter, you'll understand what I mean when you see it.

Some of you mentioned any easy way to turn wifi back on. Could you please explain how to do it? It worked out of the box, but is no longer allowing me to turn it on from "settings" and won't let me add a newtork. As far as I know, nothing changed. Any advice?

BTW, to the person whose tablet didn't come with a manual, one of the first things that came up when I did a search for this problem was an online manual.

I followed instructions and was able to install it unto my android tablets.. After the installation, I realized my screen does not work.. I can only use my keyboard.. Help please?? How can i get my screen to work again?

Unfortunately I cannot find my power adapter for the WM8650. Could please somebody post the voltage/ampere and expecially the polarity of the plug?

Hi,

Did you manage to sort this? My screen does not work after the update and when I use a mouse and try to calibrate each time "Calibration fails"

Can anyone help?

Cheers

peopleselbow .... did you save your env_boot file ? did
you replace it under FirmWareInstall/env on SD card before you flashed it ?

if not use mouse to navigate to "calibration and then try with finger to calibrate (keep trying till it works)

what is your tablet name ?

Go to the TechKnow forums and download Uberoid Universal ROM v11, beta 3. Start the changer.bat file, select option 8 (includes the V7 MID 7" tablet identified on it's user manual as "User Manual MID, WM8650".

My tablet was purchased from Pandawill in China, has a green on-lght, 4GB ram, 800 MHz processor, and dual touch screen.

Super fast and funtional now :) . Be sure to read their supporting documention and application to many, many more tablets!

Good luck

Hi, I have a 7'' WM8650 with Android 2.2, Kermel 2.6.32 and build v1.5.7 and none of the above works, anyone knows a firmware for 1.5.7?

what is your problem ?

Also new ICS mod Rom on Tecknow forum is based on v1.5.7 firmware and is in testing now and will be available later in Beta form.

I followed the instructions above, Inserted the SD Card, it booted, and the screen became a white screen with lines. I downloaded another firmware, but the android sign never showed up, even when the sd card is not inserted. please help.
