The real problem now is getting 32gb micro sd cards now. I don't even think they are out yet, and they won't be cheap when they are.

I've got 18gb of music on my home server, which I haven't updated in about 2 years now, and over a gigs worth of photos on picasa. That won't work on a 16gb card at all. I wish companies still used regular SD cards.

yeah same here with the music problem....i have about 30gb of music so i definitely need at least a 32gb card.

i should really go through and get rid of some of it though

You HAVE 30 gigs of music, but do you LISTEN to 30 gigs? 16+8 gigs of storage is plenty for most people.

The loader at the bottom of the screen isn't going to be any different processing wise except when you are moving between home screens. Even then it isn't doing much drawing wise. Most of sense is their widgets which while very pretty don't seem to be doing much except pulling data from the internet and displaying that info. If you disable sense you just get stock android, at probably the exact same speed. You just lose the extra pretty.

Yup, thats pretty much what I posted/thought on my post (previous page, last post). I guess that you MAY get a slight performance boost but nothing worth noting. Definitely will not turn from "beast mode" to "insane, crazy monster beast mode" by just turning off Sense.

I've got about 41 gigs. Whenever someone asks me when I would listen to it, I always reply "it depends what im in the mood for." Im an audiophile and I am extremely meticulous about my meta data, artwork, etc. The big thing for me is being able to have all of my collection with me at one time. Loved the ZuneHD but I cant stuff everything in it yet.... and an iPod is out of the question.

Edit: Also, am I correct in assuming that it would be just as easy to root the Incredible as it would be to root the N1 and disable sense?/stuff ROMS on it?

Except then you have the problem that you want to hear that one song, you know the one you didn't move over because you didn't have the space.
 
I only have 2-3GB of music, but I'd want the 32GB microSD card so there's plenty of room for movies. I have a couple on my ipod touch and they take up ~500MB each in mpeg4 format.

I totally agree. I have a little over 98 gigs of music (about 21,000 songs) however I'm not going to put all 98 gigs onto my phone. My ipod nano (I know, traitor. :() is an 8gig and I find myself having trouble filling it up with songs that I know I want to listen to on a constant basis. Don't get me wrong though, this is just me. I'm sure there are people out there who actually WILL need all that space just for their music.

That would be interesting if you made an oddly shaped battery that didn't increase the depth of the phone but filled in some of the space because of the contours. I would definitely buy that then. Thinness is important to me so I wouldn't consider something like the 3200mh battery for the N1.

I think the contours are due to trying to be thin as possible, so I don't think there is any space to fill in.

I believe as long as you can get into the boot loader, you'll be fine. HTC is pretty leinant about that stuff, and well Android is open source, so its encouraged. I believe it was the Motorola Milestone (might be another phone, I forgot) recently that locked that, which made it alot more difficult to root.

Disabling Sense is part of the settings on your phone, so you won't need to root anything for that, unless you want a complete vanilla Android ROM

Too bad they couldn't use the staggered back space to create a battery which uses up the extra space, and make the back flush.

There are 32 gig micro SD cards out there. I have 4 of them, one for my phone (Incredible) and same with my wifes (Incredible). Not sure what I am going to do with the other ones, I will prob use one for my DSLR camera.

Edit: That is when we get our phones!!!!
 
In a way, I want to make my judgement on the weird bumps when I see the phone in person. From the pictures, I don't hate nor love it.. but I think I'll have a better feel for it when I actually have it in my hands.

Don't cameras use SD cards? That'd be kinda hard to put a microSD into a DSLR no? My P&S doesn't even use micro.

Yeah, I think that's what drhill was getting at. And I agree with him that thinness is important, but I'd rather it have a flush back at the thickest level than be multi-tiered like it is in the photos we've seen. Just a personal preference but somehow I don't think I'm alone.

For the most part I agree that there won't be a night-and-day difference with and without Sense, but when you're working with a limited amount of RAM (whether it's 256, 512, or 1 GB) and (especially) a limited amount of energy in the form of a battery, every little bit makes a difference. An extra animation here, an extra pull of data there, and pretty soon you're talking about a noticeable difference. Things get slower, the battery dies faster.
 
This tip is worth what you paid for it (i.e. nothing ;) ), but I talked to a buddy today who works in tech support for Verizon, and he said everybody is buzzing about some big announcement that's supposed to be made on the 19th. He said some think it's an announcement about Skype (possibly), some think they're announcing the iPhone (impossible, IMO), most think it's about new Android device(s).

A pre-CTIA buzz builder perhaps? :D

It very could be the iPhone. My two people that work at Verizon (one a Supervisor and one a Manager) both received and internal memo from the CEO of Verizon say that they will be selling the iPhone in June. Specs are pretty similar to the current 3GS version for AT&T. You might want to ask him about that, I was able to see the internal memo but wasn't able to get him to forward it to me as he was to delete it ASAP.

Are you kidding, even 256 mb ram is huge for a mobile device. Mobile devices are evolving extremely fast. Developer are used to only have 32 mb of ram MAX for their processes. While a couple of extra animations will eat up more processing, you won't notice it much battery wise.

The problem is really that android is still very immature. There is room to grow.

It's not that sense is pulling extra data compared to stock android. If you are using a facebook widget anyway you are still doing the same thing. They just do a better job of presentation.
