This is the last one I got

Fairy represents my Wife and the Two Roses represent my Daughters. The cross represents my Love for Jesus Christ.

Here's a couple of mine. I also have my wife's maiden initials on my chest, the Colts horseshoe logo on my left inner forearm, and an ace of hearts on my right inner forearm.

Those are my dad's initials and my son's first and middle initials. Next tats will be my 2 daughters' first and middle initials underneath my son's.

I am still trying to decide how/where i want mine.
gonna be a roman numeral 3. the down lines of it will have my kids initials or full first names and then on each end of the bottom line will have jr. and sr. for my dad and grandfather. both have passed away.
im the 3rd, fav number is 3 and 3 kids. works out great

just need size and location for both

and after i get that i will be getting this one.
(i have been using the original pic of this for an avatar for years. just found a tat that someone else got of it... boy was i mad. wanted to be the first.)

I've gotten a couple of new ones in the last few months:

This is the friendship ribbon that my best friend and I got together:

And my rescue paw:

And SHOCKINGLY, my husband got his first tattoo (one day before his 46th birthday). Never thought I'd see that happen, but he decided he wanted a permanent celebration of his 30 years of service in the fire department.

Glad to see this thread getting some attention again, I love seeing great artwork like this!

I am sooo ready for another one. I don't know if I want it on my chest or leg though. Also not sure exactly what I want. I think I am just going to sit down with my tattoo artist and give him some ideas and see what he comes up with. I want a fairly large, colorful one incorporating a Jeep, American flag, guns, etc. Just something like that.

I have the itch for another one too. I actually have the design done. Just don't know where to put it.

The best tattoos come from giving a good artist an idea and letting them run with it. Both spots you picked are gonna hurt like hell though. Next I want to fill in the space between the tattoos on my back. Got the idea, now I just need the time, the nerve and the cash. :p

That.rocks.

Get some input from your artist. They're good at placement recommendations.

I'm not worried about the pain, I've already got a tribal across my spine and shoulder blades. The thing I am worried about is those spots are so hairy it isn't worth getting tattooed because it will just be covered

I have got a few tattoos where I just tell the artist what I want and let them put their own spin on it. Usually turns out great! I am going back to the same artist that did my last 2 tattoos from now on. I was extremely happy with his art and color!

I want to get a sleeve. Not sure exactely what i want but My basic thinking is haveing the highs and lows of my story done in the art. I need to see how we can do it were it is as colorfull as my faery but I'm in the beginning stages of it. probably sux anyways

As long as you have a good artist there is no such thing as a tattoo that sucks. Some people may not understand it, but it doesn't suck when it has meaning to you (like my Moose on my arm, most people don't understand)

?? I'd like to understand, unless it is too personal.

I have been a member of the moose lodge for about 8 years now. The moose I have is a silhouette of a moose with a "871" tattooed underneath. Lodge 871 is where I joined the Moose. It really is an awesome organization that does a lot for orphans and the elderly, plus the lodges are a great place to hang out.

Those have been my best experience. Out of my 11 tattoos, all but 4 have been done by the same artist - mainly because he wasn't even enough to tattoo when I got them. But he's now the only artist I'll let put ink on me, and the more creative control I give him, the better the tattoo turns out. I've always wondered about guys getting tattoos on hairy spots. But I guess if your hair isn't too dark and/or thick, it would still show up, right? Maybe just not quite as vivid.

+1 Tattoos are very personal and they aren't there for everyone else - they're there for YOU, and if they mean something to you, and you have a good artist, they can never suck. However, if you don't have a good artist...oh boy.

My bad I wasn't talking about the tat sucking I was talking about my idea of having it reflect my life. I'm very boring y'all. To much personal tragedy in my childhood left me jaded with life. I'm getting somewhat better but no where I think I want to be. I have a wonderful artist. I came up with just the basics of my faery he drew what the result was. He also did my frog. His boss did the one on my arm 20 years ago. I have been truly blessed in that fact. I can't imagine someone else doing ink on me.

Just to give you ideas:

My brother-in-law has two very large tattoos on his legs. One is a Merry Go Round that circles his lower leg and starts just above the ankle going up to just under the knee. It has his daughter/my nieces name on it. She is now 18 and over the years he has had horses, unicorns and pegasus added. The picture shows a different stage of her life and contains something she was interested in at the time. An example would be the 16 year old tat is of a mustang and has the Ford logo on its side because they spent the previous 5 years working together to restore one from 68 or 69 before he gave it to her on her birthday.

On his other leg he has a train circling up starting at a tunnel by his ankle and headed for a tunnel near his knee. The train has cars behind it and each one is filled with different things that his son/my nephew has been interested in. He started with trains when he was two so the engine has a number two on it. At six he was into Legos like my son is now and he has a car full of them. Like the one before he plans to fill up the freight cars with important things or major events in his son's life.

Both tattoos are really quite unique and all he does is go to the artist and tell him what his son or daughter is into

+1 A good artist is all you need. I used a horrible artist for my first tattoo and even the simple design I wanted (the one in my first picture) was completely screwed up. He didn't know the techniques that the others did and it showed when all was said and done. Fortunately for me and my girlfriend we found a really good guy that fixed both of ours.
