[Official] Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE Pre-release thread - Sprint official launch is Saturday, June 2

I agree it's just Sprint being Sprint. Also it may have to do with just keeping supply and demand. If they announce it too early that could lead to less units preordered. I would think by keeping the mystery around it pushes more people to go out and preorder the phone "just in case". Just speculation though I'm sure it's probably something much more simpler than that.

Is anyone upgrading to the new evo? I have one in my cart now on preorder but not to happy about the $36 activation charge. This phone does have some problems testing and compatiblitiy issues with accessing LTE in the lab tests but that doesn't matter for me because my market is not on the current list to go live.
Thanks

I went through Best Buy for 2 reasons one I am saving 50 bucks on price of phone so I'm paying 149 and I already put 50 down even though I was told I didn't have too. But I was told I cannot upgrade any earlier than the 18th. I'm due on June 1st. So ordering from Sprint if it really is shipped on the 15th I may not have been eligible even though the warehouse is here in Louisville and I am almost sure I would get it the very next day.

I did go through BB to pre order my LTEVO and hopeful that it is ready for pick up on the 18th. :) I was on the fence ordering online via Sprint or walking into BB to pre order. The only reason I went the BB route was because, I herd no word of a early release going through Sprints site, like they did with 3VO. I'll put in a prayer for you folks that went through Sprint online getting it on the 15th or earlier :) I look forward to hearing about how you lucky dogs got your LTEVO's early in the mail and how awesome it is :) (fingers crossed)

Yeah, the activation fee "per upgrade line" was somewhat of a bummer. The first time I saw that was this past October when I updated one of my secondary lines to an iPhone 4S (which is going to be sold at some point in the next few months). I found out, right afterwards, that Sprint had implemented that new "auto" activation charge. I'm sure I could've talked them into waving it, but was too lazy.

NicksGarage pointed out that Wirefly has the LTEvo in their hands and has posted up a preview: HTC EVO 4G LTE for Sprint Sneak Peek - YouTube

I took the opportunity to ask this:

Hi Scott -- hopefully you can help answer this narrow question -- is the camera button on the HTC Evo 4G LTE "dual-detent?" In other words, on most digital cameras (and on the Evo 3D), the camera shutter button has a first detent (or notch) for focusing, and the if you press further, you get to the second detent to shoot the actual photo. No one's been able to answer this question, and you're the first with the phone in hand. Thanks!

And got this as a response:

FANTASTIC question NeoteriX!
The button feels like it has a first and second stage but it does not do anything at the first stage. I checked the settings and there was not an option to turn that feature on or off. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for this I had been wondering as well. Good to know that they kept the 2 stage button.
Hopefully the first stage which he said does nothing, causes the camera to focus within the camera application. ;)

Just wanted to follow up and let everyone know the full User's Guide is out now as well.

I'm really going to miss the 4G Wimax icon :( I liked being able to easily visualize the quality of connectivity I had via 4G. It had the 3 signal bars above the 4G.
With LTE it is going to be just like the 3G icon and only show input and output activity instead. With the Up and Down arrows below the 4G icon. Booooo.

They dropped the carousel homescreens from Sense 3, I'll miss that even though it was cosmetic.

They also dropped the wrap-around, not cosmetic, and I will definitely miss that. Now when you get to one end, say the far left, you can't swipe left one more time to get to the far right screen, you have to use the old Sense moves to get to the other end. That's a step backwards.

Oh well, it is what it is.

We can get rid of homescreens now. Thats a bit of a plus. :D
I'll kind of miss the carousel, but for sure wrap around.
One step forward, two steps back.

(Before someone asks ;) To remove a home screen, pinch and zoom out into home screen overview mode and then long press one of them like you wanted to rearrange them. Instead drag it to the new remove button.)

Is there any way for us to program a log press of the home key to function as the search button? That would be pretty useful.

There are mods for the One X that allow things like this. They require root though so you may be out of luck if you're running stock.

If I'm honest though, it doesn't take long to get used to the new way of doing things (button wise).

Been reading a lot about this phone and I think I'm going Iphone 4s. It just suits my needs better even though this new EVO is freaking sweet man. If I change my mind, I will return...hell I will return to see what you guys think when you get this thing, because I have a little time before the switch.

anyway...could be my last hurrah here...great freaking place though!!!

that's what it's all about amigo, what's best for YOU. I'm sure you won't be disappointed with whatever you end up with.

Any reason in particular the OEM's are slowly doing away with the search button. I use it on my Evo constantly and it will be one of the things I miss when I move on.

Obviously this is probably old new's to anyone else but i was very curious as to why the "18th" was the rumored date and if there was any "fact's" behind this date and the only thing i was able to really find was at the link below.

PSA: Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE up for pre-order today, May 18th release date hinted at Wirefly -- Engadget

Wirefly listed that the device will ship on the 18th. There is a screenshot of the original order screen from wirefly which apparently changed shortly after but toward's the bottom of the screen on that link above it does show it ships the 18th. So now i know where that date came from and im going out on a limb here and hoping that is true and hopefully atleast a day or two before the 18th for us folk's who pre ordered. :pepsi:

I was wondering if anyone that went the BB pre order route can comment on this?

Android News and Rumors

I went the BB LTEVO pre order route and did say if you trade in your old EVO, the you get $50 bucks off + $50 gift card. I have not herd BB will give you $50 gift card when you come in to pick up your LTEVO.

Not sure what to make of it.
