Root Have you heard...root for 1.5

Interesting.

If they make it so the fools, I mean folks who installed the leak can go back to 1.5, there will be dancing in the streets. :D

Yes, and that dancing will be by those that were chicken... er... smart enough to wait so now they can finally get to 2.1 without having a panic attack. As for root, where is it? Oh yeah, still being tested because the devs just happened to find it in the wild? Something smells fishy.

Update installed, rebooting phone :)

I'm not gonna lie, but I'm secretly chuckling inside at everyone who jumped the gun and installed the leaked 2.1. ;)

Working like a charm:

Now, who's gonna put out some nice ROMs? :)

I'm curious about the baseband version on the rooted phones, why is it 2.40.00.01.22? All the other one's I've seen, including mine on 2.1 are 2.41.04.02.02. Is this because of the root?

Mine has a slightly different kernel version, 2.6.29-5cf233c2, and build number, 2.26.605.2 (running the leaked 2.1 ROM).

I'm guessing this was some sort of internal testing ROM...

Must be. Let us know if you come across any issues now that you've done this. I've been trying to talk my wife into dumping her Storm and getting an Eris, and if so, it'll be rooted then upgraded to 2.1. Me, I gotta wait until they root the 2.1 leak, which will hopefully be soon... (need a crying smilie)

My understanding is that the root version is and older test release for developers. It is a rooted rom that is signed so no exploits were needed for the install.

Ahh, that explains why this won't work on the 2.1 leak, it would be like trying to roll back to 1.5.

Alright guys got my refurbed 1.5 today question is do I root 1.5 or go leaked 2.1 and wait for that root. what will be the difference if we put a 2.1 Rom on it. and are/ will they be a tutorial on rooting as I know nothing about it but want to know it all!!!!!!

Read post #86 above. I linked to a tutorial on rooting the Eris.

That was my question as well. Rooting is a bit foreign to me. I would like to take a few apps off that I don't use if that will speed up the phone some. Not sure if rooting is a good idea for noob's......

I'm super happy for root but for some odd reason, the 2.1 leak has boosted my morale enough to hold off for a 2.1 root without being disgusted that I updated.

I have a question. How is this root any different from what we did when we updated to the link?

I mean I understand what root is. I just assumed it would require more that just loading an image on the phone like we did with the update. what more can you do with this "rooted" image (Currently) that we can't with the leak?

I don't think the root everyone running 1.5 got today is that much different from the leak we are running, the way I understand it is that it's just something to hold them over until the chefs cook up some Eris ROMs, but then again what do I know??
