Root Have you heard...root for 1.5

I promise you that this was thought of a long time ago. The devs are so far ahead on this stuff that it will blow your mind. The short of it is that there are different ROM versions between the Hero and Eris and vulnerabilities present with the Hero were patched when the Eris kernel was released.
Oh I have no doubt they are smarter than I am on this stuff just wondering if there were cliff notes as to why so I could catch up ;) I'm really new to android.

But...most of us being on 2.1 doesn't help the fact 1.5 was rooted. You gotta question the devs decision to keep going with 1.5 root. They were even making threads asking for people with 1.5 to help out.

It makes sense. They've got a LOT of work already in, and there were still exploits being worked on as I understand. While many of us, myself included, have already bumped to 2.1 I expect there's a much shorter timeframe for figuring out a downgrade from the leak to 1.5 than there is on a fresh root attempt.

Either way, I'm still refreshing every ten mins to see if there's news to follow. This kind of thing tends to reinvigorate everyone involved, so here's hoping that breakthroughs continue.

Boy I hope so, I knew this would happen. Lol

Wow, awesome job to the XDA Developer crew. Kudos for showing everyone who kicks ass around them there parts! lol Can't wait to see the progress of what we can do with this powerful device! THE ERIS!

Seems like I might have to hang up my 2.1 Leak Tutorial out to dry and learn to Root with the OTA 2.1 when it gets rooted. Maybe hook up a Tutorial on rooting. Fun fun fun!

Uhh, anyone watch the video attached to the XDA post? The Youtube title is "First Look: Droid ERIS 2.1 ROOT androidmobileos.com" and at the end of the video it shows the Firmware as being 2.1.

But then, they say this on the androidmobileos.com site:
"The good folks over @ irc.wastate.net / irc.thefuzz4.net #droideris & #root have given us the first look at a rooted droid eris handset running android 2.1.

- no google login bug (where you had to login with each boot)
1.5 - 2.1 ROOT
This is not a ROOT for the 2.1 leak. This is from 1.5-2.1 ONLY so don't go flashing any images we're going to have up here shortly. 1.5 to 2.1 root ONLY."

Thoughts? No Google login bug sounds pretty nice to me.

And after going to http://androidmobileos.com/?p=11660 and reading the comments, there this:

I can confirm androidmobileos.com will have the root tomorrow (3-15-2010).

Root tomorrow, 3-15-2010, sounds too good to be true.

I expect now I'll have a productive Monday at work, hitting F5 and such until I get more information. Gigantic congrats to those involved.

I still think 2.1 OTA or leak will eventually be included in the root (non-geek speaking, though ;)).

And if I'm wrong about the leak being rooted, those of you with the leak will be able to upgrade to the 2.1 OTA anyway, it's been posted.

I know, I just wanted to overclock and get rid of the excess apps. But I am happy with 2.1, I just wanted a change from 1.5, and a change is what I got. I'm definitely assuming that 2.1 will be rooted for Eris. Regardless of if its the leaked version or the OTA. Doesn't make a difference to me.

Man I have been back and forth about the update and I am really glad that I waited. I can't wait for root. Thanks guys for all of your hard work!!!!

Yes I know.

Sorry, think I misread your original post, thought you were expressing confusion over them saying it required 1.5 to root but having it show 2.1 in the firmware version.

Didn't mean to intimate you were dumb or anything.

And I recall earlier on in the root discussions one of the devs saying they had a 2.1 build ready and waiting for when root was found.

Of course NOW we're gonna need separate bug report threads for leaked 2.1 and ROOTED 2.1...

Gonna get all kinds of confusion going on...

Cant we just go back to 1.5 by loading one of the updates from the htc website that were available to download back in december etc?

Nope. As I understand those were patches, not full OS'es. And if that's not why, I'm sure I've seen the explanation somewhere as to why they don't work.

Man I am glad I waited. I even downloaded the patched leak yesterday, but chickened out on installing it. Since I know less than nothing about this stuff, my question is this: After the ota comes out, will I still be able to do this root thing, or is it one or the other? As in either root the phone or do the ota update?

It's all good.

Here's the thing about posting a root on 2.1: If someone figures out how to root 2.1, by the time the OTA update comes out HTC/Verizon will know about the exploit and patch it. So, I don't think that root will come out on 2.1 until after the OTA update comes out. BUT----I've been wrong before on several occasions and about several women's intentions....So don't hold me to this.

though im sad i have to say...helicopter view is amazing!
and not to mention google maps navigation!! :)
plus all the 2.1 apps...its good here
i know we`ll get root so i can overclock my phone to get live wallpaper...
i know u guys that didnt even take the plunge on 2.1 wont be doing that so...stay in the past and stop busting our chops cause we like to be cutting (bleeding) edge! :p

You know I love you Frisco, but the only dancing I want to do after hearing that is this:

I'm not going back to 1.5 :P

lmao ..

.. well, I for one learned something from that dancing lesson video I posted yesterday; blond wigs are sooo 80s.

:D
