I know a guy, who's wife's brother knows a mechanic who works for an airplane manufacturer that sells planes to HTC and apparently, the mechanic's wife's friend works for a local cafe that gets their food supply from a company's who has an employee who's father works for HTC who knows someone in shipping who personally knows a pilot of one of the planes (I know confusing right? :o) and said this *hit is going down...

In all seriousness though, until we see a phone release, pictures inside one of the boxes that is being shipped, or shipping papers or something, I think we got nada

what have i started haha.

on a side note, what stores are you pittsburghers getting your incredibles at, if you are getting the incredible?

Man, I had no idea the 'burgh was so well-represented on this thread! Since I work dahtahn, I'll probably be hitting up the one on 5th Ave. If not that, then Monroeville. Gonna be an Incredible day! :D

The more I think about it (it's a real slow day at work so I have a lot of time to think) the more I feel it's going to be a real ball crusher if there is no Incredible info/press release/announcment at CTIA.

Wow androidforums how do you let a thread get so jacked up? Come on now. Gotta be an easy fix. Call your engineer and get his ass on the ball. I think there is a glitch in the matrix...

How does the testing exactly work? Maybe some of your more tech-happy peoples know.. How do you become a VZW tester?

If a tester has the phone, tests its functions, service (signal), etc for X amount of time and writes the notes down is that it? Or do the people who make the changes on the phones test them as well?

I guess what I am getting at is how does the person who makes the changes keep on the same page with the tester, just the notes?

Thanks in advance and my apologies for my ignorance, I know nothing about this :o

like this
Code:
#svn co

Honestly i think VZW testers are the final testers. The phone that HTC has given to Verizon to
test has already gone through very thorough internal testing done by HTC's and their engineers.
There is an entire development process which includes testing/debugging and updating their code.
Then they test again. And test some more. Once they feel all the bugs are worked out, they will
send Verizon a product they they feel is extremely close to completion (software wise at least).
Verizon will test it, love it... and sure maybe have a few "notes" which im sure have already been
noted by HTC. So they give this "test" phone to Verizon to make sure they are happy with it.

Oh and I'm just guessing... I don't really know how it works but this logically makes sense to me...

My best guess is you are given a sheet of things to test step by step or by task (like turn on media player then enter navigation) and you give each step or task a pass fail with notes attached.
Usually you want outside testers (as in outside the programmers and builders) because a programmer may think "well everyone knows that you have to do x before y", when in fact average people do not know. So the tester tells the programmer "No Z has to be done before x and then you can do y". Programmer adjusts.

Thank you, that makes it a lot more clear. You would think there would be a lot of testers or a lot of checklists no? It seems like there are a lot of functions and different ways to perform each function and that would take time to test..

Anonimac,
Since you started this thread, do you think we should start an "Incredible battery saving techniques thread"? I have noticed them on some of the other sub-forums. Maybe basic techniques, links to other websites to prolong lithium ion batts, and apps to download that could aid in this? Just a thought..

I was going to start one, but didn't know if it was too early and I don't have a smartphone so I am not aware of any apps and stuff. What do you all think?

It seems this last week is going to be kinda rough until CTIA, it seems we have squeezed most of the specs/news from the Incredible sponge lol

When the phone is launched i plan on starting, and maintaining, several key threads: Tips and tricks (which would include battery saving techniques and "streamlining"), Bugs (and possible workarounds), Owners thread, Accessories (with community reviews/opinions), etc... I posted about these plans a few pages back but i'm still waiting to hear enough feedback to feel like i understand the will and voice of the community at large about these plans. I only want to ensure that this "community" (Incredible owners), which has so far shown amazing cohesion and collaboration with this thread, continues to have a place to gather, discuss, collaborate, and support the phone once it comes out in a structured and well managed way. As before, I appreciate any feedback...

Sounds like hot fire to me. When I get the phone and start messin' with it I'll share any tips or things I find useful. Same with the accessory side of things. I think that will be a big benefit and I see myself going there for info quite often, lol. I know with my car if I have questions about something I usually check the owner's manual, then hop on the car forum to search if other owners are having the same issues. Thanks!

i wouldn't worry about it. i dont think anyone had trouble getting the droid. there were about 7 people at the store where I live!

i'm buying online anyway... i hate mail in rebates.

My wife and I will be moving over from Sprint to get this phone x2. So...two questions. Since it's a move, family plan, and we want to port our numbers...would it be prudent to order online? Secondly, do you think you would get your phone as fast as if you went into the store?

Ya know, since I've never had a smart phone I'm thinking I'm gonna need all day long...phone plugged into an a/c outlet (or via micro usb)....to really get acquainted. :D

I was debating on when to interject a comment along these lines. My question was going to be something like "What will the path of this thread take after the Incredible is released so as to be able to support the MANY new issues, questions, comments and experiences users have with it?"

This post addresses the question quite nicely. Anonimac, although I am not with a Fortune 1 (or 1000) company, I too am an old time developer and manager who has been at it for longer than I care to admit here (was coding since before most people here were born). The need for an organized forum for Incredible owners and prospective owners post-release is a GREAT idea. Please PM me if you'd like to chat about it offline. I can offer some resources.

I'd like to see various individual threads with regards to the many topics here such as battery issues, cables, changing UI, rooting, third party accessories, tips, tricks, tethering, and my personal favorite, application development.

To all the other people who post... WOW, this is a great group of people with an enthusiasm and restraint like none other I've seen on any message boards since before Al Gore invented the internet.

Thanks to all here. It's a great forum.

Just replied to Kappy (before i read your post) but essentially same thing i would have replied to you. I'm all in favor of continuing to provide this community, which has shown it CAN do what most other sub-forums can't in my experience, with a great environment that is well organized and managed (emphasis on that last part). Hate to put it this way, but it's easy to "hit it and quit it"...and that's what's going to make it or break it...the continued support, not just initial set-up. Long story short, i'm all in favor of it, appreciate and welcome your input and involvement, and look forward to kicking it all off when the time is right (launch). Maybe the Mod's/Admin's can assist us as well if they think it's a good idea (i said earlier i wanted their buy-in before investing a significant portion of my time only to have them disagree and squash it!)

On-line = overnight shipping + no mail-in-rebate

I will also be getting the incredible at the verizon on 5th avenue on my lunch break as this is what I did on the Droid launch and they had about 50 of them behind the desk. I later returned my droid because it just wasnt enough for me... that keyboard... man it was worthless

Anyone waiting a little after the Incredible launches before they buy one?? I get worried about bugs and such.

Thinking about waiting for two reasons. 1) and don't hate me....Verizon Iphone...really??? 2) I have had enough launch devices to know that's there's always a monkey wrench in the works somewhere in them!

ordering online, you'll get it next day as long as it isn't released on a weekend.... and you won't have to send in the mail in rebates. Its worth the wait for me.

the porting might mess with things, not sure because I haven't done that, what i would do is just order the 2 incredibles and then worry about the porting afterwards...

Would be one of the few reasons I could see VZW not hyping the Incredible up or advertising substantially. Not saying I agree/dis-agree or if the Incredible isn't advertised substantially that it means VZW is getting the iPhone, just saying they (lack of Incredible advertising and a VZW iPhone) go together well
