FWIW...
Engadget updated their review concerning battery life. Nothing shocking, probably expected.

"Update: We finally put the EVO 4G LTE through our usual battery rundown test (looping a video with brightness and volume set to 50%, Bluetooth disabled, WiFi turned on but not connected and CDMA plus LTE enabled) and the phone lasted eight hours and 55 minutes, just like AT&T's One X -- this despite a larger 2000mAh battery (vs. 1800mAh on its cousin) and a strong CDMA signal. The difference is likely due to the LTE radio being enabled without a network available. We were unable to test HD Voice because the feature is not expected to start rolling out on Sprint's network until "late 2012," according to a spokesperson. Regular calls, however, sounded clear on both ends and reception was problem free."

HTC EVO 4G LTE for Sprint review (updated) -- Engadget

Doesn't CDMA use more juice than GSM? If so, could that account for the same numbers seen by the AT&T variant?

I called today also. They said it's a promotion for everyone this month the 36 bucks is being waived. I was told that you have to wait though and call back once it hits your bill.

Yeah, I called in this morning to just the regular customer service number. I told him I was going to be buying the new EVO 4G LTE and asked if I would have to pay an activation fee. He said, "Oh, you're really going to like that phone, let's see if I can get that waived." Then he flagged my account and said if anything shows up on my bill just call in and reference today's date. It was really simple. Maybe I just got lucky.:)

I find it really odd that this promotion requires you to call Sprint to get the fee waived once it hits your bill. I would think that the logical course of action would be for them to prevent the charge from ever hitting your bill. It also seems like they are not actually publicizing this promotion either.

If this is in fact the case, it would seem like Sprint is trying to take advantage of the people who haven't heard of this promotion and are ok with paying the $36 fee.

This doesn't make much sense to me but I've heard stranger things so this may very well be the case.

I'm sure it is. Sprint recently finally did away with the Instant Rebates, which was the same concept. You buy the phone and they get free money if you forget to mail in the rebate or somehow fill it incorrectly. So I'm not surprised at all that they are supporting a system where they win if the consumer either forgets or is ignorant of the promotion.

I remember when I pre ordered the Photon last year. I believe I ordered on a Thursday, it was due on that Sunday so I didnt expect it until Monday based on the EVO 4G shipping time frame. I received it the next day and the tracking never updated so much to my surprise I saw a box at my desk when I came back from lunch. The funny part was I had a terrible time trying to activate the phone as it technically was not due out until that Sunday so Sprint had to escalate the issue to get it activated. So you never know with Sprint and new releases...

Huge thanks for this information.
Placed the call this morning. Activation waived. And since I've been with Sprint for over 10 years without a billing issue, she threw me another kick-arse bonus to boot.
Woot!

Thanks again

I just called and they would not waive my activation fee. I told them that I could get a better deal at best buy so I would like to cancel my order and he told me since I ordered on May 7 and the estimated shipment date was May 9 that he could not cancel my order, even though the phone has not shipped. I guess I will be returning this phone the day I get it and buying it from Best Buy instead.

Been due a full upgrade since Feb of this year. I called Sprint about getting my activation fee waived (They did w/o issue thankfully) Sprint rep is saying once I pick up my LTEVO to call them for $100 dollar credit on my next bill? Is this standard thing Sprint does? I was not expecting that! I mean with BB $50 gift card, Sprint $100 credit, $35 activation fee waived, and Google $10 bucks. Shoot, $5 bucks out the door for new LTEVO.?

I felt like was on extreme couponing or something :D

I just ordered mine through sprint. They waived the activation fee and gave me free shipping. I was gonna do BB but didn't wanna wait. Plus I'm getting 70 bucks for my Nexus 4g through their buy back program.

I just submitted my order and it already has a tracking number for me. Lol, bad thing is the tracking number issued says already delivered. Which is obviously not the case. Hope this gets corrected.

Is this legit because I ordered mine at 9:10am 05-07-2012 and i still have yet to recieve a tracking # via email or on sprints site to track packages?!

Yeah i just checked my email once again and my sprint site ordering tracker and no such tracking # for me :( :( well i sure hope they ship them 2maro because I'm becoming very anxious and impatient lol

Don't worry...I haven't gotten mine either and I pre ordered an hour or 2 after they began accepting them.
I'd be willing to bet we hear something in regards to shipments tomorrow...just try to hang tight (it's tough, I know).

Everybody say that the new Evo has at least decent battery life. The Verge guy says otherwise. I wonder what gives? They usually do a decent job of phone reviews.

With the exception of the big display mount for the tether attached to the back of the phone it felt good. I would prefer that the entire back of the phone have the same material as the lower half but I'm not hung up on the esthetics of my phones as some people are. As long as it functions great and isn't ugly, which this phone certainly isn't, I'm a happy camper. I was disappointed that I couldn't deploy the kickstand though.

I would have liked to have been able to feel how the camera button feels to depress but as I said it's a display model and none of the buttons moves.

I was also to see exactly where the charging cable will be if I'm talking on the phone while charging. My thought on that is I wish the port was on the other side of the phone from where it's at just because I usually talk with the phone in my right hand which means the cable is facing towards mt front rather than the more comfortable location to the rear if I'm holding it in my left hand while talking & charging.

I was happy to be able to see that the rear camera lens is indeed recessed.

All in all it looks like a great phone but as I said the functions of the phone are most important to me and those I couldn't explore.

I forgot to mention that I found the kickstand to be smaller than the OGEVO. While it does seem to have a spring to keep it from folding into the body when sitting in portrait against the length of the kickstand rather than against the tip of it like we had the OGEVO it didn't have a very strong spring because the kickstand felt like it was right on the verge of folding up when sitting that way. Being that the phone I handled was just a demo phone it does leave me wondering if the real deal will be slightly heavier and if so does what does that mean in regards to the kickstand being close to folding up. I'll look forward to hearing what you who did the pre-order report about that.

I wouldn't put too much credence into what you saw there on the demo phone in pertinence to the kickstand. Those are usually very different that what you get on the real phone. I've heard multiple results that the kickstand is VERY strong, so that shouldn't be an issue.
