Root New Phone Backup Question

I have an HTC EVO 4G, and I'll be getting a new one.
In order to keep everything the same, all I have to do is make a nandroid backup, then copy everything off the SD Card, and then on the new phone, restore that nandroid backup, then copy everything to the new SD Card.

Is that correct? Or am I missing something?

no that will not work unfortunately. nandroids are phone specific. you can however make a titanium backup and restore that on your new evo. but nandroid backups will not work.

Oh darn. In that case, I'll install a new ROM.
What's a good one these days? I'm on Cyanogen, but the lack of GPS is getting annoying. Are there any more updated/better ones?
I don't care that much if it's Sense or AOSP, just as long as everything works.

which cm7 are you on? there is a fix:[FIX][AOSP][MIUI] All GPS fixes! - xda-developers

and roms is all a matter of opinion. but here is list of roms to try:

mikg is great. the kornerz rom looks cool. of course then there are the ics roms like decks and the new team dirt rom as well.

I recommend:

For Sense: MikG 3.11
For AOSP: Decks (CM7 based)

Both for stability. Can't go wrong with either one.

Thanks guys.
So Titanium Backup and MyBackup Pro, using those should get everything I need, right?
And then I just root the new phone, install amon-ra, wipe everything, flash ROM, then restore the backups?
Am I missing anything there?
