***Official HTC Incredible Thread***

Slug closed the other thread because users were complaining that it was getting impossible to read, because of all the off topic posts in it. We can't please everyone.

If you want one big thread with all the information in it, that's fine, but having 6 pages of posts with nothing to do with the incredible is of no use to anyone.

We don't want to stop the friendly banter and chat, we welcome it, but it needs to be done in the right place or big threads full of information become useless.

In all honesty I think we all saw it coming down the pike. We would have been smart to just create a new thread before to dump real info and just let that thread go on with all the useless chatter.

I will say that I was partial to hearing peoples opinions even when it was related to mobile devices and companies in general. It's just the way the thread flowed. I truly believe that if we all end up getting on the same thread again we're going to run into the same issue. We all want to contribute thoughts in some way and it's hard to do it when we're talking about something that only 2 of us have even touched.

Either way I understand why the mods closed it, I'm happy we've got a new place to talk, hope we can get everyone back in here.

Cheers.

Im really curious to know why the official forums got locked. It gave something that seemed like an explanation but it wast. How is it that a forums gets locked cause for a few pages things got a little off topic mostly due to no new info. There is hundreds of people on this forums and thousands of people reading it. If things got to off topic im pretty sure no one would have came back. Everyone who reads this forums knows that we where a lil short on info for the past few days and pretty much discussed everything we can about the phone and the information we know so far. New discussions on the phone are not gonna happen in till we get new info. I just dont understand it

My guess is it worked like most things in life. A few high ranking, high post count members complained several times to the mods about not getting only Incredible information from the thread and the squeaky wheels got the grease. I can see this if someone subscribes to the thread and jumps to check it every time they get and email only to find something they don't care about. Personally I disagree that the thread was difficult to follow. Maybe inconvenient for those that didn't want to do the work to follow it but not difficult.

I was only on the "official" forum for about 3 1/2 days and read approx. 3000 of the 7000+ messages, and all I can say about the closing of that thread is while its demise is irritating; it is also largely irrelevant. All who were there can still revisit that thread as a repository; that knowledge is not lost. Yet, we move on.

I am looking forward...forward to my next phone. I cannot wait to ditch AT&T and this judasPhone. I'll be searching the forums for many answers along the way and will be most appreciative for all of your advice.

Seeing how this thread's been named the "Unofficial HTC Incredible Thread" are we allowed to talk about non-specific things related to the Incredible?

If so, let me post this story regarding Google taking the gloves off in its fermenting battle with Apple.

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/new-google-hire-takes-gloves-off-in-apple-rivalry-2010-03-15

I particularly liked this comment.

"Apple is now selling roughly 90,000 iPhones per day, while roughly 60,000 Android-based phones are being sold daily, making it a horse race."

Just think how many more Android handsets will be sold should the Incredible, Desire and SuperSonic find their way to market? I would expect many of those sales gains will come at the iPhone and AT&T's expense, which is why Steve Jobs is running scared right now.

Won't be lighter once you get extended life batteries to keep it powered up. A bit worried about battery life, but hopefully the idle mode will save on the power also.

Also would like to see some good docking stations with remote/alarm (like another phone) come on line. That I think is another key for acceptance by the masses.

I think if each Incredible user is savvy with their battery techniques it won't be so bad.

The typical wifi, gps, 3g off, & bluetooth off when not in use should help out a lot. Plus if you add the toggles to your home screen it'll be easy to turn on/off. I've read screen brightness is another big issue. Keep it as dim as possible to save on juice.

I believe the rest is based on the type of user. I know (at least I think I know) I'll be a casual user. Some internet here/there. Light txting and moderate talking. I'll use the occasional application for certain things (I.E. key ring app), but I won't be balls to the wall like some of you guys/gals. You really know how to do some hardcore/cool things with these phones!!!

Ok if I get my NE2 upgrade on April 1st can I buy the Droid and then return in 30 days and still get the discounted price on the Incredible?

For those of you who don't understand whyit was closed, let me remind you that at least three requests were made to keep it on topic, and several clean up's were performed (including a 56 post purge which had nothign to do with phoens, let alone the incredible), there were still 6 pages of non-incredible releated information. A bit of banter is ok. Half a thread of chit chat (about other topics) in a thread claiming to be the "official info thread" is not.

Please keep this in mind as well as it concerns batter life; I've been checking out the HTC HD2 forums on another site and came across this piece of information regarding battery conditioning, which really hasn't been touched upon here. Given the resource hog the HD2 is I would expect the same to apply to the Incredible.

"The battery, I found, takes about 2 weeks of charging to get the full charge on the phone. When I first got mine, it would last around 6 - 10 hours, if i was lucky. But since letting it discharge, and recharging it fully, it seems to hold a full charge of a day or two now. Obviously turning off certain things will help you keep the charge. Also, if you're using the mains adapter to charge your phone, unplug it as soon as it's charged, as keeping it plugged in decharges it for safety purposes."

Perhaps if those who had reported to be testing the Incredible had more time to properly condition the battery I suspect battery life would have been vastly improved and we wouldn't have the concerns we do now.

Already at 35 posts and only 1 relevant. Wonder how long before the same mod strikes again?

Don't worry pequerjim will be here soon to complain and drag a mod over.

I think they may be testing the 2.1 for the Eris update w/ the Incredible and want to make sure it is up snuff before they put the phone and the update out there. With the test phones going back and the update(supposedly, as we have heard it before) coming out, I hope that bodes well for an early April release.

I have read and been told that before too. The "conditioning" is important. I have also been told to NOT put it on the charger at bed time and take it off in the AM as that messes the battery up. I have also been told to wait until it at LEAST gets past half charge before charging.

Now with docks and cradles, etc they seem to charge soon as you put them on, so that goes again what you are told, I know, so each user will have to use their own discression.

Edit: I'm kind of a battery freak when it comes to this stuff. I tend to follow what I've been told and not to deviate from it. I generally get pretty good results with batteries, but I don't eff around with them either..

A few others I've been told/follow:

-Turn phone off when charging and let it fully charge (for best results)
-Buy brand name/good quality chargers. The $2.99 car charger from ebay is more likely to over-charge and mess up your battery than the $19.99 car charger that the phone manufacturer/service provider will sell for your phone.

For more battery techniques I suggest you check out this sticky in the Eris sub-forum (was also mentioned by a formum member yesterday).

I would have rather the members who were off-topic and who continued to ignore the ,more than fair, two or three warnings simply be given infractions or possibly banned. I know you guys are doing your job, but it seems like making veteran members, such as myself and many others who play by the rules, suffer because of some new members who wouldn't stay on topic may have not been the best technique for keeping this sub-forum on topic. Sure, it may not be that big of a deal, but a lot of us put a lot of hours into that thread and most of us were consistently on topic with only strictly new information on the phone and banter regarding it. Because locking the thread didn't stop the problem, which is members who don't respect the moderators. It just moved the problem to another thread. I think the bad apples are the ones who should be punished, not everyone.

That's just my .02

What is the weight of the Incredible? I have not seen it anywhere.

We don't know yet. No official number. It's rumored to be less than the Moto droid, possibly less than the N1, and close to the Eris.

So it should be pretty light.

The eris weighs 4.20 OZ (same as my enV2), the N1 weighs 4.59 OZ, and the Moto Droid weighs like 5.98 OZ

For *hits and giggles I believe the iPhone weighs 4.78 or 4.79 OZ so if you have held any of those devices you should be able to get an idea on weight.

I know my enV2 feels kinda heavy (it's smaller/clunkier), but when I held and Eris it felt light and pretty comfortable (it's thinner and spread out more). So I think the weight is dispearsed more evenly on these newer thinner/wider phones. That being said, the Incredible should feel nice if it weighs in at around 4.20 oz-4.6 oz, based on the size specs we have for it.

Imagine if all of us were friends. And then imagine if we organized an event...lets say...I don't know....how about a "Waiting for the Incredible Chat and BBQ"? So...we all show up because we are wanting to know more about the Incredible...but we figure hey....it's BBQ and something enjoyable. Now...this is turning into a bit of a stupid analogy....but would you talk about ONLY the Incredible. I would bet you wouldn't. I would bet you would talk about all the other phone related things on your mind. You might even check out the fine one standing over there with that nerd. But ultimately what you are interested in is finding out about the Incredible. Well...hopefully that is this thread! A place where we can all interact like dorks....have some fun....while also benefitting from the master sleuths who share our enthusiasm. I hope calling this one "Unofficial" is enough. Otherwise...we could call it the...drum roll please... "Incredible Lounge". :p

What they didn't realize is what some of the members called off topic, such as discussing other phones specs, got us asking the information sources relevant questions about the Incredible, and helped to hone in on actual specs of the phone. I think the reason we got so much information was because we discussed the N1 screen bug, and were able to ask Stericson if that bug was still present in the Incredible that his source had access to.

Like it or not.....a lot of the off topic conversation spurred the discovery of the specs that we have today.

LOOOOOOOOOOONG time lurker (I think since about page 45 or so in the "Official" forum). I'm just so happy I found this forum, and must say it wasn't too difficult, so I hope everyone else does. I have really appreciated everyone's insight, knowledge, humor, and friendliness.

I can't WAIT for the Incredible! I mean, I will, but I'm very excited. My husband thinks I'm nuts to get so excited about a phone. All the info I've seen on this forum has made me even more excited!

Thanks to EVERYONE! Keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to hearing and learning more.

Alright folks, as much as i'd love to keep biitching about the closing of the old thread (and I REALLY have good reason to!) here's a tidbit that may get us truly back on track and discussing just the Incredible.

http://androidforums.com/htc-incredible/53623-htc-incredible-specs-evergreen.html

Courtesy of our good ol' friend...you know who you are;). We appreciate you and your work and encourage you to keep it comin'!

BTW, the thread is now stickied so it should be easy for anyone looking for just the latest specs (and related relevant news) to find the info quickly. Thanks Mods or whoever "got my thread all sticky"! :D (Low blow: First good thing those dirty rotten good for nothin' low life...J/K)

I know this is somewhat off-topic, but T-mobile is announcing the availability of 3 new phones to their lineup, but not a single HTC Android device.

T-Mobile set to get Cliq XT, HTV HD2, and Nokia Nuron - SlashGear

I was checking out the Motorola Cliq and noticed it has a very similar form factor to the N1, albeit a bit thicker and not as big a screen. The HD2 everyone knows about and the Nokia Nuron, I have no idea.

But it's interesting that Motorola and Samsung seem to be the only phone makers releasing new Android handsets right now and though I hate to keep harping on it, I'm becoming more and more convinced that Apple has succeeded at scaring off the telco's from offering any new HTC handsets until their patent suit with HTC is settled.

I wish someone in the media would pin HTC down on this and ask them what their position on releasing new handsets running Android is, cuz I'm starting to get pissed!

I don't think it makes people "bad apples" when no news comes out(for a couple days) strictly regarding the Incredible, and there is still discussion in the thread, even if it is a bit off topic. I thought traffic was good for a site?

It does when the moderators nicely ask like three (3) times for members to stay on topic and they don't. That's direct defiance. All of the iPhone discussion in the thread honestly was making me not even want to read the thread, and I've been a member since December and was lurking since October. If the moderators say to stay on topic and to stop posting things such as half a page worth of rap song lyrics, then it's probably for a reason.

I just wish Slug would have given infractions or banned people instead of just locking the thread, but that was his call and it's over and done with now. Moving on...
