Galaxy S2 gt-i9100G: All things root

okay.. finally rooted.. how do i remove the triangle icon? i mean.. i dunno what it means by flashing stock kernel.. where do i get it?

g-version here...

The easiest way to remove the triangle is to use a USB jig. You can pick one of these up quite cheap from Ebay.

Welcome to the forum Vitorzb and thanks for joining.

Any of the kernels in post 2 of this thread will work. I would probably go for the Lucifr kernel though as it seems to have the most features.

Hello and welcome to the forum area2350. Thanks for joining.

If you follow these steps you should be fine.
1. Instal kies on your PC from here
Kies Samsung
2. Download Odin and instal it on your PC from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=611625&d=1306787405
3. Download the kernel to your PC from here
[Kernel][I9100G][31/3/2012] Lucifr Kernel 1.5 - xda-developers
You need the tar version.
4. Make sure you don't have kies running in the background on your PC and then open Odin.
5. Tick next to where it says pda, then click on pda and insert the kernel tar you downloaded.
6. Do not tick or untick anything else
7. Turn on usb debugging (settings, applications, development) and turn off your phone, then hold volume down, power and menu until your phone boots. You will see a screen asking if you want to continue into download mode. Press volume up to continue.
8. Attach your phone to your PC with the USB cable while still in download mode.
9. Press start and wait for a minute or two until your phone reboots.
10. You are now rooted.

Got it rooted. Thanks for your help. The device is not being recognized by windows though when i connect it to my laptop. Has anyone else faced this issue?

Thanks.

I have answered your question on the dummies guide thread.

Flash this kernel
Lucifr_1.6uv-200Mhz.tar

Using this guide
http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-international-all-things-root/482994-rooting-galaxy-s2-dummies-guide.html

And you should be good.

Will try as soon as my phone finishes charging to 100%
I have a question though, why use the lucifr kernel as opposed to the others?
Will it impede my phone's performance in any way?
Also will I lose my unlock?

I was just going by looks as I don't have the G so can't try them myself. It seems to have the most features such as underclocking and undervolting. The streetware kernel also looks good. Either of those kernels shouldn't have any adverse effects on performance.

Ok thanks Shotgun84,
Hope I not giving too much trouble. Besides making sure battery is 100%full and i have Odin and the .tar file, any other prerequisites? I uninstalled kies buT kept drivers

I'm not really sure which ROM to use as I can't try any of them out. Your best bet will probably be to give their xda threads a read. There will be comments from people with first hand experience of the roms which will probably be more valuable than anything I can suggest.

Hi Shotgun84,
So far so good, I froze apps with Anttek based on the listing. I also calibrated battery, however my device hangs a little ever so often. With moderate use based on battery indicator pry I have gotten 16 hours of use.. Any thoughts?
I used the lucifr kernel as u suggested.

It might be worth giving some of the other kernels a try, you might have better luck with them. It should be easier to flash these now as you already have root so you can download the cwm zip version directly to your phone and flash them in recovery mode. You could also try the voltage control app if you want to squeeze a bit more battery out of your phone.

Thanks again Shotgun84, fixed the hanging. What i did was...
wipe data/factory reset, wiped cache, wiped dalvik cache and wiped battery stat. Then after setting up phone as new, copied cwm version of 200mhs lucifr kernel an reflashed it, only thing now is the gets hot. based on battery indicator pro using the phone moderately phone gets to 41 degrees celcius.:(

I probably wouldn't worry about the temperature, your phone should be fine. I've heard stories of peoples battery getting into the 100's without causing any problems. Your phone will have safeguards to stop it overheating.

I am using the Superatmos ROM v 3.1 and Superatmos kernel now. What is your view in terms of this as opposed to the Lucifr 200 mhz kernel. I like the ROM just dont know which kernel to use. Can u help out?

Much appreciated as always:D:D:D
