***Official HTC Incredible Thread***

I knowthis may be a silly question, but I'm new to smartphones, so please be patient...does anyone know if the Incredible will play WMA's without having to convert them to mp3 or other format?

NKT, this might be a bit of a stretch, but do you happen to know (or can ask your sources) if the glass on the screen of the Incredible is in any way unique? My Droid has the "gorilla glass" and i have to say, it is an amazingly well built device and i have full confidence when i put it in my pocket that it won't break.

Honestly, the phone isn't that big of a deal. They're actually losing money on the phone sale itself.

It's about the ARPU

Usually iSupply (might not be the exact name) always does a tear down and prices out the parts, and rarely are the parts worth more than even the subsidized price, so at least for newly released phones they aren't gonna be losing much money.

So after they get the research, testing, and manufacturing strategy finished, they're still gonna make money for each phone sold.

I guess just look at when the Droid was released. That certainly qualifies as their last big phone.

Reason I'm saying this is VZWOffers tweeted to someone to check out for a solid phone line-up this summer. Or something along those lines.

I tweeted them asking about the Incredible haha, we'll see if they respond.

For those of you who don't understand whyit was closed, let me remind you that at least three requests were made to keep it on topic, and several clean up's were performed (including a 56 post purge which had nothign to do with phoens, let alone the incredible), there were still 6 pages of non-incredible releated information. A bit of banter is ok. Half a thread of chit chat (about other topics) in a thread claiming to be the "official info thread" is not.

And I'll ask again why didn't you just rename the thread?

And it's not that I don't agree that there was a lot of off topic, just seemed like it would of been easier to just change the thread name.

I have used the Seidio holster for my last 5 phones. It really protects the phone well. I wear a dress clothes for my job and I like it clipped to my belt and not loose in my pocket. I also have to go to construction jobsites for my job and I get the added protction for the phone. I will probably have to wait a month or so after the Incredible comes out since Seidio won't start producing a holster for it until after its release.

sounds good to me

Parts prices =/= device price.

And there's more to the phone sale than just the device.

All phone carriers lose money on devices they subsidize.

I have a Samsung Omnia now (sigh) with windows mobile. It has no reminders for missed texts. Does Android have reminders built in?

I do not know. But if it has the same screen as the N1 and same tech as the Eris, I wouldn't be concerned.

If you go with invisibleSHIELD make sure you have a little mini spray bottle because the sponge they now give you sucks...I used to use them until I discovered skinomi, half the price same quality less orange peel effect.

Just finished reading the last 5 pages and as the person that posted the last two posts before the lockdown I appoligize to everyone if it was me that caused the thread to be locked. Now after saying that in my defence
1.How does past practices on their releases not have to do with the incredible it sets precedence to their schedule on releases
2. If the Apple lawsuit causes a delay in the release of the incredible isnt that relevant to the incredible
3. If you wish to have just the official specs of a phone then have a sticky with that info that no one other than mods or admin can post to and then have someone update that sticky, as any open forum thread is going to get off track

Once again Sorry....

I know that if you were to take the sum of all devices sold and put together all costs associated with providing just the hardware, you'd be in the red but.....Once your research and Testing is done, and they start selling the device even subsidized, they are making small profits on the phones at release price. So each phone bought at the release price is bringing their defecit closer to breaking even, and they have motivation to sell more phones, not just for the Subscription(which is where really cash in) but to help recoup in very small amounts.

I'm just saying it's not like they're losing hundreds of dollars on phones, like Sony was losing for PS3's just on parts alone.

the sticky has been made

I wanted to chime in and say hi. I've been following this thread and the closed one as well for quite some time. I'm a current "Tour" user but after using my friends droid the Incredible is my next phone. I appreciate all the info this forum finds. I'm a total noob to Android, but not for long. Keep the info coming! I'll have everyone I know running Android rooted and loaded up with all the goodies. (off topic-yes, but I had to drop in and get my feet wet)

Audio Formats Supported: MIDI / AMR / AAC / AAC+ / WAV / WMA / MP3

After following the old thread since page 20 or so, I make the leap with my first post. How easy, or difficult, is it to transfer a DRM file (is that what itunes uses?) to something that works with an HTC phone?

Again, there's more to the loss on the device sale than just part/manufacturing.

The Droid contains $179.11 worth of electronic components and costs $8.64 to manufacture, as presented in the attached table. This total comprises only component and manufacturing costs for the Droid and does not take into consideration other expenses such as software and royalties.

So you buy a Droid for $99, that's already starting at a loss. Add other administrative costs and you get the point.
