Help galaxy note major problem

colnie

Newbie
i have a samsung galaxy note... it just froze up,i pressed the phone icon to make a call, it froze then the screen went black and now i cant do anything...opened the phone and removed the battery and replaced it, phone wont turn back on.... anyone else with a note having this problem??... battery is fully charged and is in the right way.

I don't know if this will help with this phone, but it worked for me with my blackberry 8900 more than once.
I would connect it to my pc thru usb while I removed and replaced the battery. You may want to wait until someone with more experience responds. It may or may not work.
Good Luck.

just tried connecting it to my computer, the computer made all the right noises but nothing from the phone

I would definitely suggest taking it back and getting a replacement, if you can. If you have to go through the warranty it will take several weeks to fix.

This definitely sounds like a hardware issue.

i actually bought the phone of ebay brand new still sealed.... the person i bought it off has just agreed to replace the phone with another new one...... awesome.!

bonerp... im an android virgin, this is my first andriod phone.... i still dont even know what the heck gingerbread is let alone ICS.... all i know is i updated it not long ago to the latest operating system... lol

I don't know for sure, because I am not an Android expert, but your problem seems like it could be explained by the thread B2L posted in this topic: possible-ics-phone-brick-issue-galaxy-note

I certainly hope not for your sake, but I would be migrating back to GB as soon as possible if I were you.

Eric Ritchie.

this appears to be caused by an issue during the wipe process of the upgrade. I didnt do a wipe. If you know of it happening during normal use though, drop me a PM!?!!

thanks

Seems that it is only suspected to be a problem in normal use, based on a snippet of the thread from XDA:

Operations that are likely to cause damage when running an affected kernel:
Wiping in CWM (and likely any other custom recovery) (confirmed)
Restoring a Nandroid backup in CWM (wipes first)
Flashing another firmware in CWM (most flashes wipe first)
Wiping in stock 3e recovery (suspected, also wipes a partition)
Deleting large files when running an affected kernel (suspected but not confirmed)
I don't know about you, but I personally will not be using ICS until I am sure that this bug has been closed by Samsung.

Regards,
Eric Ritchie.

reading into this it appears to exist in previous builds and across other phones...bit worrying. I'd hope Samsung will warranty any device if their own fw buggers them up!

Got up this morning and my Note was locked up. I pushed the power button over and over and the screen would not light up. The screen had no reaction to touch. I adjusted the volume and could hear the ding sound so I knew the phone was on. I put on the charger and the battery icon came on showing 76% charge. Still the screen had no reaction to touch. I kept my finger on the power button until the phone shut down. I turned the power back on and the phone booted normally. Has anyone seen this before? Time to return the phone?

I woke up in the morning to find that all my songs and videos and other files are deleted from sd card....now media player is recognising the files however not playing the same.......even pics from my gallery is not there....i have not deleted or formatted my sd card data...can anybody help me wih this problem..i use a samsung galaxy note

Just sounds like it locked up for some reason (could be anything from a bug in the firmware to a dodgy app) Not really a reason to return unless it's happening repeatedly. The first thing Samsung would say is do a Factory Reset (which yes, could brick it).

How long have you had the SD card? SD cards can typically make about 100,000 writes but this differs dramatically by card and quality of production and can be as low as 10,000 writes.

I'd suggest format the card and copy the files back from your backup. If it keeps happening then it's time for a new card.
