Root Looking for a ROM, made a SIMPLE, SPECIFIC, list of needed features, advice? Ideas?

Im about to take the plunge into rooting my insurance replacement evo, it doesnt even run as good as my water damaged toilet floater.

Basically, i want a rom that is COMPLETELY STABLE
that being said these are the enhancements im looking for

*Better Camera quality/Camcorder Quality(more photo options too if poss)*
*Screen Cap*
*front and rear cam working*
*Better 3G/4G speeds*4G 3G and WIFI MUST work.
*no bloatware*
*ability to remove whatever i want*
*faster scrolling, smoother operation*
*BETTER KEYBOARD*(i hate the stock evo keyboard. it is my eternal damnation)

Ive seen a few that looked good, decksreloaded, nitrous i think, some others. I have WAY too many options to look at and with out going through and using them all. I dont want to go through and reboot and reboot and flash flash flash my phone into oblivion. I want some Honest opinions and advice. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Ill return the favor if possible.

i think that mikg3.11 might be your best bet. but some of the others you have mentioned are pretty good as well.

  • with camera quality most do not have any enhancements that i know of. some have added effects like panorama to the camera app, but i have not found any to improve on picture quality.
  • and getting better 3g and 4g is not dependent on the rom. that is all done by the radios. if anything, what you might see is what you are actually getting in 3g/4g signal strenght. htc has made it so that the phone only shows 3g when you might be getting 1x speeds. most custom roms will show your true signal strenght is.
  • all custom roms will have bloatware removed unless you flash the rooted stock rom.
  • you will have the ability to remove anything that you want, now that you are (or will be) rooted. i would recommend that you use titanium backup to freeze apps first because your phone may be dependent on that app. so when you delete it, it might seize up or crash on you.
  • the faster scrolling speed and smoother operation will be determined on what kernel you are on and what your settings are when you over and underclock your phone.
  • and keyboards you can always get it from the market as well.

but trying out roms to me is the fun part.

Thanks, i realize that the market has alot of keyboard apps, whatever the one is that has the video, that shows how it knows what youre going to say, seems pretty b.a. and yeah trying them out is fun. I just am literally working almost 60 hours a week, and dont have all day to do this stuff, and if i end up with some rom that crashes me, ill be quite eff'd to the world, but thank you very much. yeah mikG3.11 was another i was looking at last night, i think that and maybe some others utilized the sony bravia engine and claim better picture quality/cam quality/displaying jpegs at 100% quality.Ive been engaged in a long distance(3hr) relationship for a year and a half now, sometimes pics and vids, go a long ways when youre trying to work through that torture. I really do appreciate the quick replies and advice, it means alot to me. and dont alot of the roms, especially ones like mikg and decksre have pre-assigned kernels and radios to help boost speed and signals?

well mikg is sense and i believe that it is only the current stock kernel that is included with the rom. not sure which aosp kernel that comes with deck's though. it might be the cm7 kernel, but i could be wrong.

and unfortunately with kernels it will always be YRMV. what works for you may not work for me. so really the only true way to know which one is best for you is to try them. believe me i understand about the 6o hours a week deal. i'm at 58 hours right now!!

edit: and flashing radios is separate from roms. you have to do them separately.

The Decks Reloaded ROM has the Aroma Installer, which basically lets you install whatever you want. The default is the Mason .15 RC3 kernel, which is pretty freaking sweet. I am running this rom/kernel right now. Everything works and it's the fastest rom you will find. Run whatever you feel comfortable with though. I have ran MikG a lot too, and it's also great.

If you can handle aosp, decks reloaded is freaking outstanding.

all i read about it was that, they wouldnt answer questions, is it really, difficult? Now just to clarify, im not a complete **** when it comes to computers and phones, i used to be a cellphone hustler aka, bestbuy wireless EXPERT, ahem yes, thats right. the highest rank before manager.
and ive had to format, fix and do my fair share of crap on computers, was even the TA in computer class back in the day.
But, make no mistake i know nothing about programming, or any super complex stuff. I just want to say, im not the guy posting on the root guides -"what does zip mean?"

and if it is not something that a reasonably smart, somewhat computer adept 27 year old could handle, do you have any links to a good guide on it? Dear lord i feel like im studying for finals getting ready to do all this... lol

thanks alot
Charles

They will answer whatever questions you want in that thread as long as its about the ROM itself. They dont like off topic questions. They waste time they could be improving the ROM if they are trying to help with problems that arent caused by the ROM.

We on the other hand will be happy to assist you with anything at any time :D

ok so here is a few guides to help you out.

to root your phone use this guide:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html

and once you are rooted then you can use this guide:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html

just skip the rooting section and go to the after root section. it has a ton of info on how to flash a rom and such.

Very simple to set up. With the built in installer, don't select a2sd installation since some have issues with it. Just flash it separately. And if you don't use it, then won't matter
