Some people just don't get it. The mods said to stay on topic, end of story: there is no if's, and's or but's. No one listened, Official thread closed. Now the mods are asking you to drop the topic, and you keep pushing their buttons. Just do what they say and this forum will run smoothly, in an orderly manner. Stop trying to question the authorities that run this forum and their motives. They don't have to explain themselves. They're MODERATORS.. the whole point of them is to MODERATE. If they feel something is out of line, then they will do something.

I am not pushing buttons. I am addressing very directly with the Moderator this issue. I want clarification. I think it's a bit unfair...but I know I don't make the rules. So here's another question. Can we create a thread called "The Incredible Lounge - Off Topic Okay"? Then would the moderators object? I mean really...what do we have to do to be able to be able to discuss this phone and have a bit of chit chat in the process? And asking about policy is anything but detrimental. I'm not bit@hing...I'm making my point. And I think it's a fair point.

Yeah this thread is probably going to get closed anyways so I might as well post this...

What is the difference? Now you click here, instead of on "official htc incredible thread..." who gives a shit? We haven't skipped a beat since being moved so I don't understand why anyone is bothered by it. It was almost nice to have a fresh start until it got cluttered with "why did it get closed" posts...

I think the previous poster made some excellent points. Can you explain where it says in terms of service that anything wrong has occurred? Is there a business reason for censoring out off topic threads? We are a happy group....no fighting...so what's up? I'm not a young guy....have been in countless forums on countless web sites over the years and have never seen anything so heavy handed by a moderator. SO....I want to know...what did anyone do to get a thread completely closed? You don't have a bunch of thugs on your hands...we're here for one main reason...but have fun while we are doing it. With my opinion stated....I ask again. Where is it in the terms of service? I searched and didn't see it.

PS. I read the terms of the Zero Tolerance Policy and saw no mention of off topic posting. Everyone here and in the other thread almost to the last person has conducted themselves in a civil manner. No mention in the rules about having friendly exchanges.

This is supposed to be a friendly forum, and you are detracting from that. If you want to beef with the mods, do it elsewhere. We have been directed to stay on-topic. It's their forum, they get to make the rules. If you want to discuss the Incredible, feel free to stay and add to the discussion. If you want to whine and pout and gripe, consider yourself unwelcome, go sit on your chair in your garage and yell at kids to get off your lawn.

I disagree.

This has been a good place to communicate, with each other about a lot of stuff with the Main topic being the Incredible......basically what we want is a place to do that. We aren't harming others, Anonimac is doing a great job of posting any good pertinent information to his sticky thread, and we are having a good time chatting with each other. If some people get mad that it isn't on-topic enough they don't have to read this thread. They can start their own "THIS IS ONLY INCREDIBLE NEWS THREAD" that I won't go to and post non-topic discussions on, but this thread was made intentionally to keep our discussion community going. Those coming in and saying only post on-topic info are in the minority, and what right do they have to tell us to stop.

Edit: This is not complaining about closing the last thread, I really don't care about that anymore, this is just to say don't complain about going off topic on this thread (We specifically created this thread so we could do so), and mods please don't close it if there are some off topic discussions

Okay fine...I see your point. But it's a totally lame situation...and I think those that have the courage to speak up shouldn't be chastized. With that said...I won't "ruin" it for you...because it's already ruined for me. I truly wonder if I started an Off Topic Incredible thread if it would be allowed to exist?

Do you think, if you go into a VZW store a day before the phone is launched ((whenever it's announced officially))and ask for the Incredible would they perhaps sell it one day before hand? If your lucky I suppose. Hopefully, it does come out next week, I'm looking forward to using a new phone.

Also, I'm sure it will have 720p recording by the end of the year!

Well, I have been following this thread for a couple of months now and have just joined. I guess people are right, I (and apparently others) don’t get it. I thoroughly enjoyed – for the most part – the banter on this thread. And as someone so astutely pointed out, the off topic banter often leads to pertinent nuggets of information, i.e. the screen issues in the Nexus One. We have NO official information aside from the pictures and specs given to us by NKT and stericson. ALL of this is speculation and whether it’s the lawsuit by Apple that may lead to delays or the enthusiasm and camaraderie that is helping all of us in waiting for the launch of the Incredible, I truly believe that we’ve all taken something and learned from the thread.

I’m sure that some people had difficulties following the forum, it is large and unwieldy. But how many more people truly enjoyed it? It was one of the highlights of my day for sure. Before this, it was an incredibly congenial and civil atmosphere. I don’t think is “whining” or is “stomping their foot like a petulant child.” People are genuinely confused and are resentful. Sure, we should try to learn something from this forum from the moderators’ comments, and I have cringed every time that someone has said something that is blatantly off topic – but shouldn’t this be addressed with them individually? I resent being made to feel like a child. Sure, this is the androidforums thread and they can do with it as they wish, but WE, the users make this thread. Surely they can learn something from us as well?

Aren’t we championing an open platform, free development device? I mean, unless your Steve Jobs, what I’m saying should make sense. Regardless, the heavy handed interjection of the moderators makes me, to be frank, uncomfortable.

As I’m sure this post will no doubt be deleted in keeping with the trend of this forum, I bid you good night and can only say that I, like all of you, am eagerly waiting the Incredible!

Okay...to defend myself. You assign all kinds of motives to me...from being childish to having a temper tantrum. None of it's true. Yes I have a beef...but I stated it in calm terms for the world to see. I can fade out if you want and let you have the thread just the way YOU want woop...but this thread was created to be UNOFFICIAL. And I ask a simple question of why we are being censored? Someone on this thread said that kiosks and unofficial stores (not sure about wording) get new phones sooner then other stores like Best-Buy or Walmart.

What is an "unofficial" store exactly?

Ex: I have a store near me called "Wireless Solutions" and then it says under it like "Certified by Verizon Wireless" Would this be an unofficial store?

For Christ's sake. Banter is what this is about. If we just wanted tid-bits we could just Google latest news for the Incredible. The thread for info only is stickied already. If that's what you want DON'T COME TO THIS THREAD.

I guess if they close it we can just open another one. Or find another site to meet up at. If they really don't want all the traffic here. It's starting to look like they are wanting us to leave.

Good thing every tech site on the net is referencing this place for the info on the Incredible because of all these off-topic posts.

Thanks for trying to get the thread back on topic. The one thing that may prevent Verizon from being able to do that is the computer system. Although they may have the device on hand, the actual sale of the device might be limited by the fact that it won't be available for check-out. Then, if for some odd reason you were able to convince a salesperson to sell it under the table and ring it in the next day, there will likely be the problem of activating the device. Disclaimer: that's just my opinion

I have been visiting this forum for a while, I agree that it can be annoying for members to sway off the main topic at times, but there really is no more to discuss...do you want us to repeatedly rehash everything over and over because everything that could be covered with the Incredible has been already...wouldn't you say? We have no more information; this thread is drawing in new users because of the excitement.

I for one don't care to feel like I am walking on eggshells and can't joke now and then for fear of being blamed for a closed thread.

Forums are for user help, product knowledge and fun...get over the power trips Mods. Ban those that are rude and disrespectful. But don't threaten to close a thread every other day; you will lose members faster than you can gain them. Goodbye.

yes. they're basically an authorized dealer, but not actually a corporate store

A few people last night had checked the testman site, but there was nothing of note. The only real leaks that we have been able to find lately have been from people with hands-on experience with the device (NKT, Stericson, DevDroidian), and Stericson and DevDroidian were contacted initially via twitter.

Stericson hasn't been posting in the last couple of days. DevDroidian was at the gdgt event last night and he posted a tweet that HTC had a lot of devices, just no Incredible sighting.

I sent a tweet to Stericson and another Android developer today to see if they could check with their sources to verify the date. Didn't hear back from Stericson yet, but the other developer said he was going to reach out and see what he could do. I had sent a few messages to DevDroidian in the past couple of days, so didn't want to inundate him.

Edit: just noticed that Stericson has been active within the past couple of hours, but just a couple of replies to friends. Nothing of note.

I don't ever remember them doing something like that before.

I'm still hoping for a reverse situation of VZW's initial Android release. Start out releasing a high end motorola, and then shortly after release a lower tier HTC phone. This time start out with a lower tier motorola, and come in a little later with a high end HTC.

Stericson hasn't been posting in the last couple of days. DevDroidian was at the gdgt event last night and he posted a tweet that HTC had a lot of devices, just no Incredible sighting.

I sent a tweet to Stericson and another Android developer today to see if they could check with their sources to verify the date. Didn't hear back from Stericson yet, but the other developer said he was going to reach out and see what he could do. I had sent a few messages to DevDroidian in the past couple of days, so didn't want to inundate him.

I also contacted a member on here (username: shocker), who's quote I posted earlier about the equipment guide on the N1 being fake, if he heard anything about those dates, and he said no. So it may be a possibility that the reps of lower volume stores have not had the news past down to them?

I had thought basically along the same lines as you and contacted the 3 Best Buys in my area as recently as last Friday. The consistent response was "we do not carry that device at this time." However, in light of the unverified "official" date, maybe that has changed?

Assuming the Incredible is their next flagship phone, was the Droid also sold earlier through other retail channels before VZW?
