Root Anyone Flash ICS on a Rogers Phone yet?

I have the Samsung SGH-i727R, and that one letter seems to mean I can't use the one click odin thingy to get my phone to ICS. It's very annoying and disheartening. Is there anyone here with a Rogers phone that's actually managed to do it so far? What method did you use if so?

i have the exact same phone and i use skyics from xda
work fine and stable :D
i wipe everything, and begin by flashing the base, forget the one click, doesn't work with roger

Thanks alfi! I've been trying this myself, but no success yet. Keep getting stuck in a (very colorful!) boot loop.

Did you have to do the author's APN tweaks to get it to work? Seems like the next step for me...

i don't tweak anything for the apn, he detect the setting on my sim card alone.i'm with telus.

the first boot after flashing the base took 5--7 min to boot completly.it's long when you watch your screen. take time.it's not boot loop.i do the same thing the first time i flash the base then after 3 min i pull the battery ,but the boot was not complete. take time.

don't flash the update 4.2E-9 at the beginning do it only after all the phone work fine ans testing, after that you can flash the update
 
Thanks. I'm going to be more patient this time, but it really looks like the startup animation is going over and over again. Bunch of rainbowy colours and--

i'm not sure if i understand very well your problem, but for me after the update , i import all my contact from my sd card. before upgrading to ics i do an export contact to sd card for backup.

tell me more about your contact wouldn't load, what do you mean?
 
I flashed the update, and then the "contacts" application wouldn't load...at the bottom of the home screen where you see the PHONE icon, there was a stock android icon, and I couldn't load it or make phone calls at all! :confused:
 
i see, i have the exact same problem , it's not a problem it's the launcher that don't show your icon, i think you must change the launcher by double click on the home button and choose the other launcher, i don't have the exact name of the launcher but i'm pretty sure is twlauncher.try it

Can you get any Canadian apps from the Play Store on your phone? The ROM makes my phone think it's AT&T, so I haven't been able to get Bell Media (for the AM/FM radio) or CBC Music...it says that they are incompatible with my phone. :(

i don't know because i never use that kind of app for this moment.
it's true that our phone are now at&t, base on a kernel made for at&t.
CSC (Country/Carrier Specific Code) is different
roger=RWC and at&t=ATT
but it's compatible with our phone because it's the same hardware.

that's the same thing with kies software , it said software are not support with my phone , it's normal because the core are at&t usa and the software are install in canada zone.
 
Just FYI, there is an official Rogers ICS release.

On XDA, they have already started to rom it (look for 4.2F -1.5 SkyICS)

What's even great is it works for ATT too
 
i just flashed the skyics rom on to my skyrocket today. it's working very fast and so far the only bug i found was after downloading and installing more than 2-3 apps from the store, you get an error "touchwiz stopped" or something like that.

you need to use clockworkmod and install the roms exactly how it's outlined on xda.

i'm on a rooted s2 lte, using fido.

Is there a good JB ROM out for this phone yet? Google and XDA haven't been much help so far!
 
There are a few at XDA. that's where the development is right now. I can't call any of them fully stable so for most folks I'd say stick with a good ICS but for the more adventurous JB is working well. Works for me.

I found a liquidsmooth ROM. It's so smooth and beautiful, but seems to have this problem where the entire phone shuts down, and won't turn on unless I pull the battery out...bit of a concern, not gonna lie! :rolleyes:
 
Ok. Stupid question from a new, learning noobie.. how do I know if my phone is a Roger bc I have the same probably as the person that started this thread
 
Well, for starters, did you buy your phone from Rogers? Are you on the Rogers network?

Provided you haven't flashed any custom ROMs, this is easy to check.
You go into settings, and find something titled "About" or "about phone." the model number will be SGH-i727r if it's a Rogers phone, or just plain i727 if it's AT&T or other.

It's trickier once you start flashing Roms, because the JB rom I have changed it to i727, even though I know 100% that it's i727r.

Did you buy it from Rogers? Do you live in Canada?? If you don't, then I'm 99.9% sure you don't have a Rogers phone, lol.

It doesn't really matter for most of the Roms, though.
