Root I've Partitioned My SD Card, Now What?

That is usually a very solid piece of advice, but in this case system apps should be fine because it is the same ROM.

I don't know if it will restore ringtones and things like that. It depends on exactly what was backed up. I dont think it will restore the wallpapers ect.

I chose restore missing apps and system data...
Everything got restored...even my wallpaper :D
Not sure about ringtones but I'll check and let y'all know.
It also restored apps2sd app though...I had uninstalled with titanium and when I did the backup I unchecked it so I don't know why it was restored. I will take a screenshot of the info in titanium home page because I think the internal memory is less now!

Do I need to do su emulator thingy again? I can't recall if I had to do that after my restore...
 
Make sure to uninstall that apps2sd app.

Get a screen shot up of the main page of titanium where it shows your memory and we can make suggestions from there.

If you want to move more onto the SD card you are able to move dalvik cache & cache to the SD card as well
 
I just did...uninstalled it with Titanium...didn't even open it.

I looked in the applications and none of the apps are in the card (none are checkmarked)...
 
Thats still quite a bit of space. Try the su a2sd reinstall command. If that doesn't get it down we will use :

su
a2sd cachesd

------------to move your dalvik cache to the SD card as well
 
Some other optional commands you can use are

a2sd cachepart
Moves dalvik to cache partition, & performs a hot restart
a2sd cachepartreset
Moves dalvik to cache. Reboots with dalvik wipe & rebuild
nocachereset
Moves dalvik-cache back to internal storage. Reboots with a dalvik wipe & rebuild
a2sd zipalign
Performs zip-align at boot. Boot will take longer after installing apps
a2sd nozipalign
Stops zip-align at boot
a2sd remove
Moves apps back to the internal storage & performs a full reboot

Err...is the internal memory suppose to deplete after I do a2sd reinstall and move the cache?

Try putting dalvic on sdcard. Also you may want to reboot into recovery and wipe cache & Dalvic only before putting on sdcard
 
I'm beginning to think I did anything wrong...perhaps when I did the titanium backup/restore...
Another possibility is that I had a edited ROM (as Xpert had to help me out previously) and so I had more space open...not sure.

Argedion, I thought I put dalvik on the sd when I did the su cachesd as Xpert suggested above.

Wait...I just did a full wipe, I wiped dalvik, cache, and data and reflashed my ROM...why would I have to wipe those again before putting on sd?

Just dalvic and cache reason is titanium restores apps to internal memory. Normally after your reboot dt will move apps to the SD card. However dalvic cache has been created and the system gets it info from the cache. So removing it and letting dt move thing should give you a more accurate picture of internal space
 
Its worth a shot.

When I am on MikG and put dalvik on the SD card I usually have over 300MB left on the internal partition

Ok...so I wiped cache and dalvik...do I do the su reinstall thing again?
I already moved dalvik (previously when Xpert suggested) so I don't need to do that again right?

Btw, I looked into titanium again and now I have 191mb free...so it jumped up a bit...but I remember the first time I did the position I had 204 I believe...and this was before I move dalvik etc...

No you will need to redo as you just reflashed the ROM.and you cleared SD ext. So you need to run command again

correct but you have just reflashed it prior to my instructions. That is what I ment. I'm sorry for any confusion I have caused you.

Ah ok...yeah but after I flashed the ROM and did a restore Xpert said to do the su a2sd reinstall because I had less internal memory than before...then i also did the move cache to sd...I will do it again tho...I have nothing to lose...

Guys, should I not go into applications, and move apps to sd though?...or is all of that not necessary anymore...provided it works correctly of course

No, you will not want to move apps to SD card through the applications menu.

Doing that moves your apps to the SD-android secure and not SD-ext that you want.
 
Man I'm on the verge of giving up...I've been clearing dalvik, reinstalling a2sd all afternoon and nothing...
This last su a2sd reinstall took me from 191MB to 189...

When you've got some time flash Tommy's Classic EVO... This is for troubleshooting, I don't expect you to stick with this if you don't want to. Just trying another ROM can narrow some things down for me.

Index of /android/classic/stable

Wipe EVERYTHING manually in recovery (except SD card). Data, cache, dalvik cache, system, boot, SD-android secure, SD-ext

Flash Superwipe

Flash the ROM


When the rom boots and gets set up, download titanium backup from the market. Dont restore anything! Check out the current numbers for internal and SD-ext.

Download a few large games from the market such as angry birds. Install them.

Check out titanium backup and see what has changed. Internal should move a little bit because of the symbolic link. You may not notice a change in SD-ext because its measured in GB and not MB.

Reboot. check the values again.

Move the dalvik to the SD card.


If everything appears to be working at this point, you know that the partition and dt-a2sd is working just fine. That narrows it down to something that was restored in MikG

I believe restoring that app2SD app and the data with it messed up the partition before dta2SD had a chance to get them moved correctly. Even though the app was not opened the data was restored and it may have corrupted something.
 
Well, this is getting a little confusing for me and over my head so I have nothing else to offer, sorry:(... but I will continue following this thread to see the outcome.
@jojo--good luck, you have 2 knowledgeable people (rxpert/argedion) and also mizzou who will get you thru this.:D
 
I expect an all expenses paid trip out to St. Maarten after this :p

In all seriousness though, once you try flashing the other ROM and doing the steps I outlined above that will get rid of a lot of variables for me.

I understand the process is time consuming, but it will help us all figure this thing out.

In the end, I think its that apps2SD app you used that is causing all of these problems. If we start fresh with another ROM without restoring anything that will confirm that for me.
