Root Boot loop-ish

I've been on MikG3.1 (Evo 4g) for a while and digging it, however tonight my battery got drained and after I got home and plugged it back in it is getting stuck in startup. It used to play the MikG lightning animation, but after the white EVO screen now it goes to just an "android" screen and stays there indefinitely. I can get into recovery (Amon RA) and wiped cache and dalvik, but no dice. I could re-flash the rom from my SD card, but I don't want to lose all of my data and texts (locked texts especially) if possible. Any way around this? Could I flash MikG3.11 "update" if I need to wipe and flash a rom.

You should be able to reinstall with out a full wipe just wipe dalvic and cache. I'm not sure if the upgrade skips the wipe or not. Rxpert has a version of MikG that does not wipe. so you can easily restore. May want to check with him. I never use mikg. Make sure you nandroid before you do anything so that you can at least attempt to preserve your data. You would't want to restore the nandroid but keep it so that you can use a nandroid tool to help remove those things you wish to keep.

Thanks, Argedion. I re-flashed the rom (and then the update) and it worked out. However, my texts aren't there as far as I can tell. I did make a nandroid beforehand. My apps, photos, etc. are all still there though.

Basically I had one thread with a lot of important locked messages. Any way to get them back/access them? You mentioned using a nandroid tool- is there a walkthrough for doing what I need, etc.?

I never used that tool, but I believe an old guru named akazabam came up with it. I'm on my phone, or I'd do a search for you, sorry. :(

You should be able to extract the texts of you have the nandroid.

Also, try to restore the nandroid of the bad rom, then wipe dalvik and cache, then just flash the update .zip. see if that will work.

I never got the chance to properly thankyou for the unandroid tool. One of the best tools in my collection

You're welcome :). I'm glad you actually found it useful. I'm surprised so many people still use it. I saw some time ago that somebody wrote an actual app to do the same thing. I liked being able to do it with a script because you can get a shell on a computer (a number of ways) and quickly browse files that way without ever picking up your phone.

It doesn't hurt that I use Linux either :) how is the nexus treating you?
