[Verizon] My Screen Went Dark - Need some assistance

Hey folks,

I could use a little assistance if anyone is up for it.

Background: I was on the phone this afternoon talking when my battery died. The phone shut down on its own. I plugged the phone in my car charger, waited for it to boot up, then unlocked it. After a few seconds, my screen went dark on me. The screen was still "on" because I could touch the buttons and I felt vibration feedback, but it was hardly visible.

Since then, I have pulled the battery, flashed different kernels, turned off auto brightness, and nothing seems to help. With the phone plugged in, I can just barely see well enough to make out what is on the screen. But it is still stuck on this dark mode.

Interestingly, every time I boot the phone the screen brightness is normal upon going to my home screen. Then, after a few seconds, it goes dark again to a point that I can barely see the screen.

I've tried searching extensively and nothing has come up. Would really appreciate it if someone has any experience dealing with this or has a recommendation.

Thanks and cheers

This should be in the root section. I'm sure some nice gentleman/lady will come and move it for you for better viewing.

So you're rooted. What ROM? Sounds like what's been happening with a very recent "color multiplier" or "gamma" bug when running franco kernel with an outdated franco app. You aren't by chance using either of the two are you? If so, go to your color multi's setting and slide the sliders up to max (you'll have to do this in a dark room to be able to navigate). Then go update the franco app.

If you're not using the franco kernel and app, can you still turn up the multi's at all?

^^Money says that's the answer or it's a similar situation that involves cusom rom settings reverting to an undesired state.

I would also agree this is likely a root issue. I'd be happy to move this to the appropriate root section so your issue can be viewed by other rooters if you can let us know what version of gnex you are running. (vzw/sprint/tmobile/international)

Thanks for the reply, Jbdan. You hit the nail on the head. I'm running AOKP Build 24 with Lean Kernel 3.0.32. I think my Franco App went out of order. I uninstalled the Franco App and rebooted. The phone is working fine now, normal brightness restored. Thanks again - I never would have thought that being the culprit.

My phone is vzw LTE. Thanks

Build 24?

You know we're up to Build 38 now, right? I think a good nandroid backup, TiBU backup, MMS backup and a wipe/flash is in order ;)

Glad you got it fixed!

Will move to VZW root forum so others with a similar problem might find this in the future.

Haha! I know. I used to sit on my CM ROMs long past due when I was on my Incredible. Once I had everything working just right, I saw no need to continue flashing. It gets to be time consuming, and as the saying goes: If it ain't broke...

With that said, I am due for a new build. :D

Well Lev, I went from 37 to 38 with a "dirty" flash: wipe cache, wipe Dalvik, wipe system data and install. No loss of user data and no problems at all.

However: coming from something as far back as 24, you will most certainly want to wipe data/factory reset.

MAKE BACKUPS!

:)
