Root Invalid Bootloader Token Length

Trying to unlock a friend's phone.. anyways using the dev program i had to uninstall the HTC sync to get it to go forth past waiting for phone then the token shows on the screen but then I get this message when pasting it.

Invalid Bootloader Token Length
Error Reason: The submitted Token appears to be the wrong length and won't work.

I made sure no spaces and it still wont take.. I don't understand...

Glad I never had to do all this back when I rooted my Evo 4G..

Oh nevermind lol you have to copy the text token start and end.. DOH!!
 
ok stuck here.. running unrevoked3 now and it's stuck at waiting for system to settle and has been like this for like 5 min now.. what's going on?

O.k....the next step after unlocking bootloader is to get a custom recovery, then
flash the su file....just follow the steps in that guide and you should be good to flash roms.
Using unrevoked, based on what version your bootloader is, will get you totally s-off.
The captain throwback method to be s-off is a little more involved, but not necessary to flash roms.
If you can, post your info in your bootloader screen. (turn phone off...hold volume down button while pressing power button):p

All the info it says is

S-on
hboot 2.18
and it's unlocked

from what little I found because I have 2.18 I have to use dev, I haven't done the su file yet however.

O.k...cool...just flash the su file (step 3-"flash the su file or flash a rom") in that guide, and you're good to go to flash roms.
Like I said, if you want to be totally s-off then follow the Captain Throwback guide...a little tricky, but follow directions precisely...:D

Did you have any trouble with the Dev site. I cant seem to be able to login so I can root my EVO 4G. Im desperate for the bootloader unlock code
 
This has been an all day frustrating experience, I have no spaces & it still says length too long, any suggestions. I have followed so many tutorials I'm not sure what's going on now, please help!!

I assume you are at the htcdev site and trying to copy/paste bootloader token?
Did you copy from the beginning to end as shown?

Everything highlighted in white is what should be copied and then pasted into box at bottom:)

Ah, that's why I didn't recognize that version.
You have the Evo 3d don't you.
This is the Evo 4g forum.
However, I looked at the htc dev site and it says something about upgrading to software version 2.17.651.5 via the OTA first.
Another however, the process is similar...perhaps you can post in the Evo 3d forums, or a guide will move this.
Did you choose the correct model phone when you started the process?
And you are copying from the <<<<<<Identifier token start>>>>>> to the <<<<<<Identifier token end>>>>>>> prompts, including that particular text?
 
In the drop down menu on DEv, there isn't a virgin mobile option only sprint, that's te only thing i think it could be. I even tried using all other supported models.....argg

I'm not at computer right now but maybe someone else will see your posts and offer some advice. Don't fret my friend ;)
