Root 4EXT vs TWRP2

Which one is better? And which one are you using?

Right now I am using 4EXT(Having flashed anything yet) But I am thinking about using TWRP2. I hear it's better for our phones.

EDIT: Just installed TWRP2 and I love it.

are you s on or off is your bootloader unlocked...lots of questions read the newbie rooting sticky at the top, its not exactly the easiest to root/recovery, but it works.

I'm already rooted and S-OFF. I installed TWRP version 1.1.1 originally but then I installed 4ext and now I am stuck with 4ext...lol

I did what you did as well eats, it was a kind of convoluted process to get it back, I ran the flash through the flashboot procedure, you have to unlock your bootloader to do it again though, since i did s-off AFTER I unlocked it.

I installed Goo manager but I'm not too sure what my next step is. Do I boot into recovery? which will take me into 4ext.

I just did this. It is painless.

  1. Open GooManager
  2. Hit Menu softkey
  3. Select "Install OpenRecoveryScript"
  4. Once it is done, boot into recovery and see TWRP2

I immediately made a backup with it because I am not sure if it is compatible with my backups from 4EXT.

I'm using 4EXT and at this time I don't think that it really matters much. However when HTC finally gets around to releasing source so we can have some custom kernels that don't break the camera is when 4EXT will come into its own.

Now that is what I like to see. Actual steps!!!:D:D:D:D
Thank you very much Krowley3!

Neither are compatible. unfortunately. I lost my twrp2 stock backup when i swapped to 4ext to test it out.

Yeah when I originally rooted I backed up with TWRP 1.1 from the guide and made a back up and switched to 4EXT and couln't use my original backup(so I deleted it). At this point, I really dont care because I have had to run the RUU once and it is super easy. So it is very easy to get back to stock if I had too. At this point I only backup when switching to a new ROM. I will only keep that backup until the ROM that I am using is setup and 100% working, then I just delete the backup. I dont really see a point in keeping them when the ROM's that I use continue to progress and get better. If I am just testing a ROM(EVO 3D ROM's) of course I will keep a backup to roll back too.

How do you install TWRP2?

Hit "Flash ROMs" then it's gonna say you need a recovery and it'll present you with 2 options, hit "Try to find one for me" then hit yes. It'll flash it from right inside the app like 4EXT does.

Edit: or do it through the menu lol

Weird. Mine never did that. However, my back ups for 4EXT are saving in my CWM folder :/

exactly. i was like wtf? since when did it have the option to delete stuff from my sd card without giving a notification....

Meh no harm done though.
