Thanks ked0607, Rush.
Do you know if that is an official HTC channel? or a Fan site set up by a non-HTC person/group?

Hopefully the message "June 16..???" means that ICS is being released to Sprint customers on June 16th (Saturday??)

Whenever they release it, I just hope they don't screw up multitasking like they did with the EVO LTE (sense 4.0)

We won't have Sense 4.0 -- Our version will be Sense 3.6. I'm not sure of how differently the functions are between the two.

I could have rooted ☜ my phone to have ICS running, but nothing works as smooth as the original. I believe the wait will be worth it. <(@ ̄︶ ̄@)>

Unfortunately...I know just as much as you. Hopefully we'll get this update soon.

Thanks Rush. (I am just hoping that they don't screw up multitasking in 3.6 like they screwed up 4.0 - 4.0 is supposedly less bloated than 3.6 and they had to kill multitasking. That doesn't bode well for our 3.6)
Keeping fingers crossed :)

Well...Sprint just said after this update "later this month" there will be no more updates from Sprint or HTC for our phone...

After a long conversation with both HTC and a Sprint Rep, more are likely we won't be seeing an update no time sooner than July - August.

I'm not sweating this update anymore. ̄︿ ̄

Did you say August?

Weren't we told Q1 2012 originally? Heh...

Rooted ics is fine and snappy. I respect your choice if you just want stock forever and believe sprint should provide this is for us, but if your not afraid of rooting there is nothing stopping you from having it now, free of bloat and 99% bug free. I can only assume that you (hopefully) got a droid for the empowerment behind the tinker and do it yourself mentality that apple refuses to give its customers. So shake off your worries and go for it people. There is nothing stopping you.

I can honestly tell you if its been awhile since you checked on development, you really should. The devs have really gotten it together since the vm release. I am currently running an asop rom with zero issues. And lemme tell you straight up, this phone flies without sense and bloatware holding it down. The battery life has also improved drastically on it as well.

Really the only thing holding us back at this point is the lack of updated custom ics kernels, which is only because we don't have source for the updated stock one.

So give an ics rom a try, I promise you won't be disappointed.

I'm sitting here reading this thread again getting pissed off. I'm due for my final yearly upgrade and I'm back to 2 year upgrades again. The EVO 4G LTE is looking so nice right now. I'm a bit tired of this song and dance from Sprint and HTC. I seriously love my EVO 3D. I want my update, but I'm getting impatient. Anyone else feel this way?

I'm definitely with you. I'm running Swagged out stock 1.3 and it's amazing. Great battery life too. My phone boots in seconds. Plus I have beats audio and it sounds great in my truck with subs. Won't be getting that with the official ics. I hate all the bloat crap. It underclocks itself when not in use. I've gotten as much as 3 days on a stock 1730mah battery.

I'm pretty happy with my 3D, but my wife still has a Samsung Moment since only our primary line got the yearly updates. So, we're both eligible and I'll probably jump with her over to the Galaxy S3. The bigger screen should be acceptable for her without the physical keyboard. I figure I might as well dump my 3D so we're both sync'd on contracts and have the same term. I'm fairly leery of the Samsung given my previous Moment and the horrible functionality, but from what I read the Galaxy line is OK. My GPS *NEVER* worked on the Moment and none of the S3 reviews mentions it any more than it has that feature (like the Moment did too). I just worry about the HTC EVO 4G LTE in that the battery isn't removable. Every phone I've had has had a process including "remove the battery" as part of the troubleshooting steps. From what I've seen, the new EVO doesn't have DLNA anymore either, no FM radio, etc. It seems like a step back from my 3D in several features, but the S3 has all of those features. My wife also likes that the S3 is lower in radiation measurements if our 3 year old get ahold of it.
Samsung Galaxy S III Sprint vs HTC EVO 4G LTE vs HTC EVO 3D - Phone specs comparison

edit: I did just look up the radio and DLNA, both are there after all. So, features seem fine. I forgot that I use the camera a fair amount and have found the options to send via Sense annoying from the standard gallery. From the Moment, we could just pull up the menu when looking at a photo and say send, on my 3D, I don't see any options for that and have to go back to the full gallery and select the share button and then I can tag the photos I want to send. It's just annoying when I want to send one photo to exit back out instead of just sending from there.

After using the One X, I find it hard to be all that excited about ICS on my Evo3d. I know there are a lot of benefits from ICS, but a lot of it is terribly inconvenient. On the plus side, as long as the hardware buttons on the Evo3d still work, it will be ok. I hadn't used ICS before, so I had high hopes, just because of the performance benefits. Even the stupid 3 dots thing is annoying enough to make me not want it.

Of course, I'll end up with it anyway since I am upgrading to the EVO4GLTE in a week or so.

The 3-dot issue is easily fixed with root, if you decide to go with that option. You also get the 'menu' button back (On Evo LTE: tap recent apps button for menu, long press for recent apps).

I actually like the ICS improvements, but I don't think it warrants the anticipation seen in this thread.

Well, the 3 dot thing, although annoying, isn't really a deal-breaker or anything for me. Just one of those minor annoyances. I don't know whether I will root or not. I didn't end up rooting my Evo3D at all, even though there were a lot of reasons to do so.

Are you saying that the Evo4G LTE works differently from the OneX as far as the recent apps button? Because all the recent apps button did on the OneX was bring up the stupid list of recent apps, whether I tapped it or tried to long-press it. If the recent apps button works like the menu button if you just tap on it, or even if you use the long-press on it, that would make me feel a lot better.

Like I said, there are a lot of benefits to ICS, but a bunch of annoyances as well. I just can't seem to get myself all that excited to have it on the Evo3D. I will be upgrading to the Evo4GLTE, but my wife is sticking with the Evo3D, at least until we officially have 4GLTE here in Wichita. She really doesn't want to get bit like we did with Wimax, where we never ended up getting it in our city at all. We are supposedly in the first round, but I will believe it when I see it. I'm only upgrading because I can, and the Evo4GLTE is a pretty sweet phone. After using the OneX, I am looking forward to it even more than before.

so is there now a root version of ICS for the EVO 3D? Is it safe? stable? Is it "pure" android, like the Nexus?

there has been one for some time now...since Virgin Mobile released their version of ICS for it. You can either just use their version in its entirety...but then you have a VM logo when you boot...or use some of the modified ones that have the a more pure ICS to them

Not exactly....the VM version and MOST others are Sense based.
If you want PURE ICS - 2 verisions out there Devils Toast (Agraben) or AOKP (aaronpoweruser)

If you can get Devils toast to boot - it is stable.
But - No 3d or Wimax

More people have luck booting AOKP but...
No Camera - no 3d no WiMax

Flash and Play -
I have been goofing around with Devils toast and REALLY REALLY like it!!!
