On June 28th you will no longer be eligible to keep your granfathered unlimited plan, if you don't get the 4G phone on Verizon by then. Just a heads up, cause I'm sure a lot of you will be in the same boat. Just ordered a new S3 and it will be coming on the 9th. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I pre-ordered the S3 too, but this is the first I've heard it said that way. I was under the impression that you could keep unlimited if you brought your own device, whether it's new at full price or used. Only way you lose it is if you buy the device at the upgrade price.

That is correct. If you have 800$-900$ to put down on a phone you are still good. But I think it is worth it to use the upgrade on a quad core while you can. People that bought a DX want a powerful phone. And those are not cheap without the discount for the upgrade.

so, since your activation won't occur until the 9th, won't you lose your unlimited data as well? or does the purchase of the phone count as the contract seal?

actually you keep the unlimited data until the end of the current contract if you keep your current device. Of course most DX owners got their phones a long time ago so it would be hard to make it another year or two with it. If i still had my DX i'd be upgrading too.

Another note. If you're not a heavy data user then the shared data plans may not affect you. I'm actually going to save money i think with it.

Well, we're not getting quad core phones right now either... :D

But your point is correct, the S3 is the best (only) option for a flagship phone right now if you're still hanging on to the DX. The current VZ lineup of top tier phones have been out for a while and are losing their shine compared to the the S3, One X, etc. I would have preferred to wait for the Fighter/RZR HD, but the S3 is it right now.

Only thing that worries me about the S3 is Verizon's extended time with it. I'd be worried about our root options and bootloader status. Also American S3 is only Dual Core.

Since i can't push up my upgrade to preorder apparently I'm just gonna take the safe route and take the Nexus.

I don't travel ALL that much, but when I do I like to watch movies via HBO/Skinemax. During those few days I'm gone I easily use 2GB of data, and the only reason I'm on wifi mostly right now is because 3G sucks. 4G is going to be a hog for me, but Verizon's phone selection is starting to get me down, GSM phones are far more common to purchase elsewhere.

yeah i figured it was referring GSM performance. I can't wait till some review sites get the VZW version to test LTE performance. My bet is it's still garbage.

Yeah I found out the American ones only have dual cores, while the European ones are quad cores. I like the fact I can upgrade the RAM above the already heavy 2 gigs and change the battery. I also like the fact that they are Verizon/ATT/Sprint phones.

I'm going to upgrade but am not sold on the S3... what to do... what to do???

You may want to look into the HTC One X or the Razor MAXX. But personally I'm kinda peeved at Moto for jamming my boot loader. Every report I have seen on the S3 has been good including the radio. The watching videos while still surfing sold me though. The photo features are bleeding edge. I have DNLA on my PS3 and a wireless mouse and keyboard, I have a sling box, I get to return one of my FIOS boxes. Don't get me wrong I loooove my X. It will still be my backup. And if they wouldn't have screwed the boot loader and had hardware acceleration drivers for ICS I would have kept it as my main for another year or two.

Pre order keeps your unlimited. It's when you order, not when it ships. But they are already on a wait for shipping them past the first day. Like 2-3 extra days, this phone is selling like crazy, so you know there will be plenty of development going on with it.:)

You're right about the future of development with this phone and that's pretty exciting. Any word regarding a quality extended battery? I'm thinking it will be the 16mb version as well.

Sheesh! I just bought an extended battery and said I was keeping the X for the rest of the year. You got me Big Red... you got me. Guess I better add the S3 page to my android forum favorites.

Thoughts?

Man they have those batteries for the X on Amazon for 10 bucks. My extended battery from there runs like a champ. The S3 is the multimedia lovers dream. The camera is sick, the picture in picture while transmitting 1080p to my TV. This thing should be able to emulate a PS2 with the specs it has. And I can run a PS3 stick on it. I think phone games are going to come to the point where they are your system.

Start at about the 14-15 minute mark.

I recently read an article that said the results of a survey of tiered users vs. users with unlimited plans said that the tiered users actually use MORE bandwidth than those with unlimited plans. I suppose it would come down to 'thinking about it', which with the current unlimited plan I admit I don't. But maybe the folks who got forced into a tiered plan figure they want their money's worth each month? So they would be more consciously using the bandwidth?

I was just about to pull the trigger and something inside me said to hold off. With 3 phones on my account it would be about the same money to go to the 4gb plan and collectively we average 2gb/month. I'm going to stay with my old faithful X... for now.

I have an old "unlimited data" plan... I am going to not take the upgrade bribe.. gonna just by a 10 inch tablet..anybody have any experience with one of these? I am mainly interested in the video skype feature..

I'm gonna just fire up my wifi in the car for my kids and let them play games and netflixs on that.. and for myself as well.. adding no new lines.. and then maybe down the road by a razrmaxx or something to replace the droid, as long as I can root that.. It stinks they are capping everyone.. I imagine even one day they will make me change mine.. but I hope not.. for my usage, my bill would be 40-50- bucks more.. hell with that..
