Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Wow, this thread is really getting me excited about this phone. I think it may be time to upgrade my almost 2 year old iPhone 2G and this looks like the ticket.
Does anyone know what day/time we can expect this to be announced during CTIA? I can't seem to find a schedule anywhere for the event besides that the keynotes are on the 23rd-25th.

Not sure why the Supersonic has so many less fans than the Incredible. Is it something with Verizon vs. Sprint users? The biggest Incredible thread has 9,400 replies to the Supersonic's 131.

Need some Supersonic love in here... man can't wait to see how everything plays out next week.
Now that I merge a few threads together and more tidbits are coming out that are indicating that the phone is to be announce next week I am sure that this thread will take off.

Side note: I've been hearing talk of a front facing camera, but maybe its me, but in all the photos so far I don't see it. Where did this rumor about the front facing camera come from?

Have you heard it anywhere besides this forum? This Ouhei guy is the only one that I have heard hint at a front facing camera, (see post #127). I really don't think it will happen, as much as I want it to. Though when I come to think of it video chatting would be kind of weird as it would be tiring to hold your arm at face level all the time.

I noticed that stleber - post# 47 (the guy that posted this picture) never came back into the forum after posting it. That got me to wondering, so I looked at his profile. As it turns out, he registered, made this post and that was it.

I've seen a lot of reviews on the Internet about the Supersonic, but never saw this picture before. When I look at it, I don't think it's a fake picture. I think it's the real thing. Do you think stleber came in here just to throw us a bone? We may never know, but it certainly looks real to me.

Edit: Stleber, if this picture is real, I want to thank you for it.

I don't have any experience to determine if this is legit or not, but I'd be over the moon if this is the phone that is released.

That'd be from me, it's listed in the document that I saw, which is from a very reliable source.

You guys have figured pretty much everything out, so I don't really need to make you riddles.

If the picture above is accurate then it looks like there is NOT an optical trackpad which would make this the first android device without a trackpad/trackball. I think the user experience would be better if there was a clickable trackpad, especially with such a large screen it would make navigating a little easier.

I just updated the first post in this thread. If you think something should be added or changed, please let me know.

I agree with you senormatt, I use the trackball quite a bit on my Hero when I'm editing text or trying to change a URL. It's very handy for that. As far as the picture goes, the Supersonic isn't official yet and nobody knows what the final product is going to look like. One of the forum members that said he was privy to inside information thought the phone would have a front facing camera, but you can't prove it by looking at that render. We're just going to have to wait for official information, which we should have very soon.

Hi reallynotnick. Welcome to the Supersonic forum. I'm happy that you're excite about the phone. I think a lot of others will be too, once an official announcement is made. As far as the keynote address, Dan Hesse will be speaking on Wednesday, March 24th. So far, I don't have any other information to pass on, but I will keep the top post in this thread updated as we learn more. There's a link to the webcast there right now and if your lucky enough to be near a television, I understand CNBC will be carrying all the keynote speeches live.

I like what you did with the first post Bill if that doesn't get people excited, I don't know what will.:)

Thanks, KRD. I appreciate it.

I have a thought about the front facing camera, because I don't see it either, at least not in the render we have.

There's probably no reason to get into a deep discussion about it now, but I can't stop thinking about what looks to me like a HDMI port on the Supersonic. I don't know totally what I'm talking about, so I might be rambling a bit...

My television has HDMI in and it has a computer mode. I don't use that part much, because my laptop is old and slow, but I can bring the computer screen up on the TV. So now I'm thinking if I can hook up the Supersonic using the HDMI port at 720p to the HDTV, then turn the phone backwards so the camera faces me (or a group I'm with) that I might be able to Skype with it and the picture quality should be great. Maybe in that case, you'd be using the speaker phone for audio. Does that sound plausible?

Edit: This might be the main idea behind the kickstand too. That way you could point the camera at yourself or your group and you won't have to hold the phone when you're using it this way.

Haven't searched for this, but I got an email from Sprint a couple days ago about an educational 4G webinar on Monday. Was just random, any other Sprint people get this? Coincidence?

I have not seen that notice about a 4G webinar. It might be interesting, but most of us here probably have a pretty good handle on what they're going to be telling people. I wish it was going to be presented after CTIA instead of one day before. I can't believe it will include anything about the Supersonic. If it did, they would be steeling some of Dan Hesse's thunder.

Considering it says since the first one was so popular they are holding a second session, I am guessing it is the exact same info as the first one and if there was anything interesting about the first one word probably got out I would guess.
Sounds like it's mores just a sales pitch to get people and businesses on Sprint's 4G network. *shrugs*

For those looking for more of a social situation, but still want the topic of discussion to be the Supersonic, I started the HTC Supersonic Discussion Group. In that group we can talk about whatever we want to talk about without the worry of going off-topic, etc.

I made a sample post and we can go from there. It would be nice if we could get into some kind of lively conversation. I only ask that we keep it clean.

To make it easier to find, I added a link in the "Helpful Links" section in the top post of this thread.

Thanks,

Bill

I thought it was on Wednesday not Tuesday.

Dan Hesse doesn't give his keynote address until Wednesday, but some of the news organizations are saying something about the 23rd. I don't know if that's an error or not, but last month just before MWC, pictures and some info came out on the HTC Desire and the HTC Legend just prior to HTC's big press conference.

We'll see if information leaks early on the Supersonic. it might, it might not, but HTC is going to be at CTIA and since they manufactured the phone, they may want to say something about it before it's demoed by Hesse. Either way, it probably doesn't matter much, but the earlier the better. :)

I have a bad feeling about this.

couple years ago, Sprint announced the Instinct, with an iphone killer ad of $100milion. they even hired a design consultant firm for the phone. that was a big loss investment. Second after Nextel buyout.

then last year, they announced the Pre. Dan Hesse learned the lesson and did not expect the Pre as iphone killer. today, Palm is dying slowly.

Now, the Supersonic with Wimax 4G. Google back is helpful but Wimax seems to lose the battle against LTE. buying a Wimax device that is not compatible with the rest of the world (LTE) is not a good start.

Well Clear said it would not take much to switch their system over to LTE, with that said, and the possibility of T-mobile partnering, might get a couple more investors involved so wimax could make a very big footprint in little time.

Also isn't Verizon a CDMA company going with LTE. I thought GSM was the global standard. So if need be Clear and sprint would very well be able to make a very smooth transition to LTE.

if you can switch to LTE seamlessly using software, what about thousands/millions of Wimax devices? such as the Supersonic. you can't make the Supersonic to work on LTE by switching software only.

Kudo to sprint who took the risk and be the first with 4G but one wrong turn, specially with early technology, they can't survive. they already made many mistakes and there is not much room left for more.

I admit I rather have a global standard where all phones work on all networks, they are sold as unlocked phones competing on their merits and price alone and the same thing for the cell carriers. But the longest I'm going to own a phone is about 2 years, it's not a long term investment. If WiMax goes belly up so be it, LTE is not out yet so might as well enjoy some 4G WiMax and not worry about it.

You are right but if Clear does decide to change over to LTE, I am sure that with Sprint owning over half of the company this decision will take a long time. If other cell manufacturers are already putting chips into other phones, I'm sure Hesse and the gang will already have phones cooking up for the transition. Hesse is a smart man and he is slowly dragging the company out of the muddy waters.

I too, am going to test drive this phone until something better comes out, I have an upgrade in Oct. If nothing better comes along I will surely enjoy the ride on Wimax.
