I wouldn't buy an unsubsidized phone straight from VZW, nor would I recommend it. It seems like an extremely expensive way to get a phone. Wait a month or so and pick up a used one off the classifieds, CL or ebay. Plus, by then, reviews will be out and you'll have a better idea of whether the phone is worth buying or not. The last thing you want is to sell your S3, throw $200-300 of your own money on top of the proceeds and get a phone you hate.

Sell SG3 on ebay $500

At least by being under a contract, there are terms and agreements that Verizon has to abide by.

That is more like IF you can sell it for that much.

Ya those "terms and conditions" have really saved people here, that are buying phones they don't want to keep there unlimited data. I have not been under contract with Verizon for 4+ years, yet the same things I get screwed on are the same things everybody is getting screwed on. Just Saying..

I think you read his post wrong.

Just using whole numbers here without figuring in taxes.

Sell SG3 on ebay $500
SG3 pre-order now $200
Net towards Dinc4G $300

Not including any ebay fees, shipping, taxes, etc to apply towards new Dinc4G. So maybe $250 towards the new phone.

If you're due for an upgrade, this is probably the cheapest way to get a new dinc4 with keeping your unlimited data. Unless you wanted to wait for a few months after it's been released and prices come down or look for a used one.

Like someone mentioned above, under contract, not under contract, unless you're leaving Verizon, there isn't much difference imo.

I think you're right. Thank you. But...
I think $250 is at the top of the range you can get off the new DInc4G.
Between hoping to get that full $500 on eBay and the fees and taxes involved, they charge $35 for "activating the new contract", and $35 for the "upgrade fee", $15 tax on SG3 and whatever other "service fees" ot other fees they tack on.

Better than I was thinking, but still not worth it for me.

Yeah - regarding the contract - I guess I'm hoping that my new 2-year contract will protect my grandfathered unlimited in case VZW decides to kill it off in a year.

Even if a person doesn't want to go through the hassle of buying just to re-sell, I figure you may as well cash in your last subsidy for one of their "free" phones. I'm minutes away from ordering a Rezound which is a pretty good value for $79.00. I may resell and put proceeds toward Dinc4g or I may end up keeping it for awhile. (I like HTC and prefer a smaller screen size, so this is my next choice out of what's currently available.)

I don't understand the people who are so pissed at VZW changing their data plans that they can't see yet they keep looking for ways to stay with VZW. Drop VZW if you're that pissed.

most of the people that are on unlimited aren't pissed. it's the people that missed that boat. there is NO REASON to leave VZW if you have their unlimited LTE. Why would you? Everywhere else will be SLOWER or LIMITED (except Sprint but it's still SLOWER and worse coverage).

So yeah, i'm HAPPY on VZW, just UNHAPPY with how long it takes between when they announce a phone and when it's actually in your hands....

You don't understand why people don't want to pay more for limited data?

Remember, many of us have multiple lines and hence cant leave without penalty or don't have another carrier with decent coverage where we live.

Of course, I'm not mad, so maybe that's not true for most.

Shame on Verizon for not offering the Incredible 4G on a Pre-Order. Instead they will release it 1 week after the new data plans change. They have a choice, they messed up (whatever the reason for the delay doesn't matter to the consumer) they released an official statement saying coming soon in weeks and now there making it all about the bottom line....money.

The honest thing for them to do is offer if for pre-order before 6/28 to allow the people who have been waiting for this phone to use their upgrade and keep unlimited.

I'm not getting it because of this but I feel sorry for all the people following this thread who wished to use their last upgrade.

I hear you. I don't want to be forced to grab a 4.8" phone that lights up every time a text message comes in. Put the Incredible up for preorder already!

I agree - I'm not pissed at VZW. They have every right to offer whatever plans/devices/ and services that they want. Based on their products and services, I choose to do business with them. If there were a provider out there that could match their coverage, speed, and offered the device that I wanted, I may consider switching, but all things considered, right now Verizon has the best of what I'm looking for for the money. (If I didn't have unlimited right now - I would probably be looking pretty hard at the other options....)

I do understand the frustration of everyone out there who, like myself, have been waiting for this device. It does seem logical that, as long as they were offering the S3 for pre-order, they could've done the same with the Inc 4g. However, if VZW's business plan is to hold off on the release of certain devices specifically to get people into more profitable plans, that just makes business sense - duh! If you don't like it, choose a different provider.

1. You assume the delay was Verizon's fault and not based on the Apple patent issue that delayed the release a few weeks.

2. You assume the SG3 pre order is not because it is available on other carriers and the pre order allows them to keep people from buying it on another carrier

3. You also assume it is dishonest to time product release for greatest company profit.

Verizon actually sent me an email offering $100 off of any 4G LTE phone and warning me that I need to upgrade prior to June 28th to keep my unlimited data.

I checked and that means I can get the S3 for only $100. I see they are going for about $600 on ebay. Seeing as how Verizon is selling them for $600 retail, I think I could easily sell it for at least $500. Thats a profit of $400+ that I could put towards the purchase of an Incredible. I havent seen the retail price on that, but it would have to be less than the S3 (which is $600), right? Im guessing it might be around $500. That means I might be able to get the phone for as little as $50 out of pocket.

Compare that to the alternative: buy a Rezound ($80) or something just to extend the contract, attempt to exchange it within 14 days once the Incredible comes out ($35 restock fee + $120 difference in phone prices - $50 mail in rebate) and the Incredible will have cost me $185.

Option #1 seems like a no-brainer, especially considering that its debatable whether Option #2 is even possible (or if they will force you onto Shared Data after exchanging the phone)...unless I missed something...

As others have asked and found out, you will lose your unlimited data with an exchange. The ONLY way to keep your unlimited data after the 28th is to buy outright.

I pre-ordered the s3. i think it will be easier to sell that then another phone they have right now. the maxx is a close 2nd i think.

right now i plan to try out the s3. wait for the reviews to come in on the inc4g. see how it does.
then if it does review pretty good first try and sell it on craigslist or try and trade it for the inc4g.
if that fails i will try ebay and have the reserve real close to the inc4g retail price.

the way i see it. i had the $100 off any 4g smart phone. got the s3 for 130 include new upgrade fee.
sell it for say 500. if the inc4g is 500 retail... that means i get it for 130. i would be very happy with that.
everyone keeps saying losing money selling the s3 and buy the 4g like 200-300 loss... i dont see it. math not correct. depends on retail price of phone.
but most people paid 230 for phone... sell for 500... you have your money back plus some... buy the inc4g for hopefully 500... thats still getting it for 230 which it will be a anyways... so its really a push imo.

plus i would rather get a popular phone to try and sell and keep my unlimited.. dont care about contract.. im sticking with vzw.
im not going to pay full retail for a phone and not sign a contact... would rather save some money... almost everyone i call is on vzw now. 4 phones we use about 400 min a month oiutside of mobile to mobile.

I thought I read somewhere that the offer excluded the S3?

Man this sounds tempting...

I don't mean to threadjack but since it came up here and I wasn't able to find a thread dedicated to it elsewhere, do any of you fine folks know whether there appears to be any rationale as to who gets the "$100 off LTE" email and who doesn't? I've scoured my inbox, trash bin, and spam folder for anything from VZW and haven't found anything... could be because I've been eligible for an upgrade for too long to qualify (it's been months but nothing caught my eye at the time until the Dinc4g was announced, and ironically I'm now considering either the Rezound, which I passed up when it was $50, or the Bionic, which even more recently was free...).

I would call customer service. I didnt know I had that $100 credit either until a customer service rep told me over the phone. Then a few weeks after that I did get the email about it too. As for the Rezound, this credit might not apply to that since it already has a promotional discount currently.

so now that july 5 is official we only have 2 options for getting this phone and keeping our unlimited data...

1 - wait until july 5 and buy the phone at full retail

2 - if you already have an extra line on your plan (dumbphone preferrably) that has an upgrade available... after july 5 use the dumbphone line to upgrade to the inc 4g, activate the inc 4g on the dummy line, then immediately switch it back to your dumbphone. you can then transfer the inc 4g to your line with unlimited data.

does anyone have better step by step instructions for doing option 2? i have dumb phones on my plan with available upgrades and would like to try this...

I jumped ship last week and pre-ordered the S3. I had previously received an upgrade message for 130 off a 4g phone, which turned out to include the $30 ne2 credit. So I got the blue 16gb for 99 bucks. I've actually gotten pretty excited, I just hope I can live with the size.

I preordered the Samsung Sunday. I'm pretty much just going to use it as a tablet device until my original Inc's wheels fall off. When that happens ill lookat at Inc 2's and 4g's on EBay and what not.

The wife and I average 2.5GB a month and who knows how much that might jump once LTE hits the area. Getting the extra data would be about 30 dollars a month extra on the share plan as opposed to what we pay now. Over the course of two years that's $720 dollars, add the $400ish you would pay for two new subsidized phones and we each have about $560 to spend on new phones every two years.

Let me set this straight since there is a lot of questions regarding this (even though i'm not 100% sure of the facts but i'm pretty close). There are in fact people getting the SGS 3 for as low as $79.99 (if they buy the 16gb version which is $199.99 - have an NE2 discount available of $50 - the $100 discount to move to 4G LTE + the $30 upgrade fee = $80.) There may even be people getting it for free, but that is not normal ;)

Reason: VZW is going to make all their money off data and they know it.

Offered to: People WHO DO NOT CURRENTLY HAVE DATA PLANS or have an old feature phone or an old 3g data phone.

Not offered to: People on unlimited data that are using a ton of data and will stay on unlimited data. Also, anyone on a special promo plan like me ($140 for 2 lines with unlimited text and data + 1400 anytime minutes + 10 friends and family. only offered for a short window in 2010). They are not making as much money on me or others like me so why would they discount the phone.

For the people that are getting this deal, the person is like "YAY! I got an SGS3 for only $100 or LESS!! WOOT WOOT!!" and they aren't paying attention that there monthly bill is going up or they are losing unlimited data OR they have been consistently overpaying for their needs in the first place so Verizon wants to lock them in.

Bottomline: if you are a profit source for VZW they will happily discount the most popular phone in America today to keep you payings hundreds of $$$$ in data fees and even thousands of $$$$ over the term of your contract. Then discounting the phone another $100 to you makes a lot of sense.

If you are not a profit source (like me and others on unlimited data that actually use a lot or have really cheap promo plans) then they aren't going to be handing you anything extra and in my case, I will happily pay the full $250 for my phone and continue to save every month over anyone else's unlimited data plan on VZW.

If you haven't already received an email from VZW about a discount, don't hold your breath. There, hope that puts the differing prices on the SGS3 to rest :)

So to prove my theory correct, my guess is that I'm confident that no one who got on that $69.99 individual plan for unlimited text/data and 700 minutes or the $139.99 unlimited text/data and 1400 minutes for 2 lines promo plan from 2010 is getting a discounted SGS3. But if someone is and wants to speak up, then the distribution of that $100 off from 3g to 4g promo is more complex than i thought :)
