So I have an unrooted Evo Design from Boost Mobile with ICS. Today I was updated the Google Chrome app and my phone suddenetly turned off. Now it's on bootloop and I can't factory reset it or anything because it stays frozen on the 3 androids whenever I do choose factory reset. Please help, I'm a noob with ROMs and all that stuff. I have heard something about an img? but i have no idea on how to install that on my phone.

Yea similar thing happened to me. I was really happy when I got my Design 4g, it was fine and dandy, but then later on that day, it kept restarting. So I gave it like a day or two to see if updating and factory resetting would work, but then after no luck, I went to the Boost dealer I bought my phone from, showed them the problems I was having, and after determining the phone was defective, they exchanged the phone for me. After they exchanged it, I had no problems ever since.

Not sure if you may be experiencing the same thing, but I would just take it in and ask for an exchange, couldn't hurt the ask right? I mean the phone hasn't even been out for 30 days yet. Well anyways good luck and I hope you get your issue resolved, I know how much it sucks not having a reliable phone.

I did end up going to the dealer, but they didn't offer me any sort of exchange. Instead, they're charging me $50 to get it fixed.. or I could pay $90 to my insurance and get a new one. I was told by a different boost store and they told me to check with Sprint and maybe they can fix the issue since I'm insured. Idk but I'm phoneless right now and this is really stressing. I'm glad I'm not the only one having this issue :l

Here's some options. First, I think it's pretty bad they won't exchange the phone for you. That's pretty clearly defective, and that they're making you do an insurance claim is crappy. I know at the retailer I bought it from you can do a no-questions-asked return if you have your receipt within 30 days of purchase, but I guess not everywhere is like that. FWIW I don't think that the terms of the insurance cover latent defects in phones, that's a warranty issue. I'd go back to the retailer and demand an exchange because it's a defective product. If they won't help you, call HTC at 1-888-617-1113. HTC gives a 1 year manufacturer warranty and if the phone is actually defective they should be able to send you a new one. If they can't, then you're back to square one:

So you can file an insurance claim, pay the deductible, and get another phone. You can probably fix the issue for free though, if you'd rather, but it would require you getting your hands dirty, so to speak. Pull the battery out of your device, reinsert it, then hold down Vol - and Power at the same time and you should get into HBOOT. If you can get that far, you can do this yourself most likely. You're going to basically have to unlock the bootloader, flash Apache Thunder's rom (which is a stock Boost ROM, post June OTA but with root access here: Link. And then you should be all set.

Note that these two options *may* be mutually exclusive. In other words, if you go the second route and try to do it yourself, that may end up voiding both your warranty as well as *technically* violating the terms of the insurance coverage. You know how on computers there are stickers that say warranty is void in case this is removed? Unlocking the bootloader is a lot like that, once you unlock it you get to tinker with the phone but anyone that gets the phone will know it's been unlocked.

That being said, it's very difficult to "brick" this phone. So you're probably safe if you want to do it yourself, even if you're learning as you go (though, as anyone will tell you, no one is responsible but yourself if you do bork your phone, blah blah blah).

So anyway, that's my .02. If you have more questions, just ask!

Wish I would've seen this yesterday! I returned to the store and demanded a new phone since it hasn't even been 30 days since I purchased it. Turns out that the store warrenty doesn't cover software issues according to them. I was tired from driving across the damn city to different boost and sprint stores, so I just payed the $80 deductible for a new device. Ugh, well I'm not happy but I really needed my phone

Doesn't seem fair -- but I'm glad you got it sorted. In the future, if you buy from Boost online you can return within 30 days. That should give you enough time to test it out and make sure all the bells and whistles are working. Defective phones can be a true pain in the ass. When I was with T-Mobile, the phone I purchased in-store turned out to be defective (the power button stopped responding, which was also the button used to lock and unlock it, oops) and so I went through an odyssey of receiving and returning an additional 7 defective refurb phones they sent me before I went to the store and threatened to drop my contract unless they gave me a new out of the box phone. Anyway, hope you have better luck with the new one!

Yeah it can be a pain in the ass, and 7 phones? Wow that really must've sucked. Anyways so far the phone is running good except for this one time that the screen wasn't responding to where I push touching it. (it would end up pressing other areas of the screen) I got a bit scared but it's been fine since I've turned it off. Hopefully it was just a glitch or something, I don't want to go through all that hassle again..

It was a royal pain in the ass, and was one of the many reasons why I decided to come to Boost.

One thing you might want to do is perform a factory reset on your new phone. I've had a good friend who says his phone was glitchy and did a factory reset that seemed to take care of the problems it was having.

Before you void your warrenty by unlocking your boot loader. Try using this RUU installer to flash the phone with the stock firmware:

RUU_Kingdom_ICS_35_S_Sprint_WWE_Boost_1.05.653.3_Radio_1.11.00.0418_2_NV_Boost_3.42_0418_PRL61007_release_257747_signed.exe

Use the Volume Down + Power button combination to boot into hboot and put it in "Fastboot" mode. This will ensure that the installer EXE will see the phone. (be sure to connect it via USB to the computer and that you have the drivers for this phone installed) Also be sure the phone is completely off before trying the button combination, other wise it may not work.

If something went bad in the data partition or the system partition, then that program will fix it and you will have avoided voiding your warrenty. (since if you tried a custom rom first and later turns out to be a hardware problem, then you'd be SOL when you try to get a warranty replacement)

If the above official RUU flasher doesn't fix your phone, then it's a hardware fault and you'll need to have it sent in for repair or replaced.

You need to call boots hg or sprint, as they are they same.. I would not stop until you go your money back.. Sprint has a 14day return policy, were you can replace your phone for what ever you want.. I believe after 30days you will get the same one you purchased.. Now keep in mind for those who do not know, but the 14 day return will come with a restock fee of I believe 430. My daughter did this when you bought her Evo 4g.
