Verizon Pre-order, Release date, and speculation thread

Adding in my pre-order status for data:
Pre-ordered 6/13 around 10:00pm. My original confirmation email said "Ships by 7/9". Can't recall if there was mention of overnight or 2-day shipping.
Just got the email saying phone has shipped (Picked up at Memphis, TN at 10:42pm local time).
Estimated delivery 7/6 (tomorrow!) before 3:00pm to Southern California.

I seriously think Verizon was drawing orders out of a hat when deciding on shipping in regards to overnight or 2 day. Based on the posts here there just seems to be no logic on who got what. But it is good to hear those of you who were told 2 day are getting it overnight instead.

Oh, this is bad. I just thought to check my FEDEX tracking update and it shows that it arrived at the Newark, NJ facility. This is the freakin' carjacking, knifehacking and Crypts/Bloods shooting Capital of this country.

Great! Just great! My 2 S3's may already have been stolen from the truck.

However, I do notice that it arrived at 10:40am so every crackhead in Newark is sleeping at that time. I just hope that the shipment doesn't leave at 2:00am because that's when the hood comes to life.

Newark isn't anywhere near as bad as it used to be. I'm there a few times a week from September to (well, this year anyways) June as a N.J. Devils Season Ticket holder.

They've really cleaned up the city a lot. There's still issues here and there of course, as with any major city, but nowhere near the level it was say 10 years ago when it was indeed the "Carjacking Capital of the world".

For some people (like myself), Verizon was offering "Free Overnight Shipping!", for others it was just "Free Shipping" which is Verizon's 2 day shipping. I think some of the people who got the free overnight shipping either didn't realize it, or forgot it. I know when I ordered I was 99% sure it said free over night shipping but when I went back to Verizon's website it was gone, on top of that nowhere in the email does it say whether shipping is overnight or 2 day. If you got overnight shipping the screen looked like this when you ordered:

As far as who qualified for overnight and who qualified for 2 day? I don't know. It wasn't because I ordered early, I placed my order on the 12th. I am a corp customer though, so maybe that was the reason.

I hate to admit it but what I feared seems to be the case. I believe I may pass on the S3. The signal in db's is about the same as the Gnex according to 3 or 4 posters here. I live in a rural fringe area, there's no way I want another Nexus.

I am very disappointed that Samsung chose to use the same quality antenna.

Depends. If they are comparing 3g on their old phone and 4g on the G3, not a problem for us. If comparing 3g to 3g, it is a problem. Also, if comparing 4g on GB and 4G on ICS, that is not a correct comparison. I will not have the G3 until next week, since no luv from Best Buy.

Now, if the signal is truly wimpy, that will also drain the battery quicker and the combination will be a quick return to Best Buy.

Added: Most of that thread makes no sense and is not apples to apples. It gave me headache. My conditions to test above are correct. Any other is not.

Update: After reviewing some comparisons in other forums that are apples to apples, it so far is not too encouraging for signal reception. My mental positive spin is now not minding as much my wait until next week. Bummer or bogus? If reception is Gnex level, mega fail for me. If even close, it is and will wait for the Moto HD.

I am in Newark frequently for metrostars games and the rangers games there.... The iron bound district is very vibrant, tons of shoppes, restaurants, and bars. Newark Penn Station certainly needs more renovations and amenities.

Called CSR on my way to work to try and get answers as to why those who ordered after me were getting their phones and my was still processing. Of course no help, but she did tell me my CC was charged and she guessed it would ship today or Monday. Got to work, verified my CC was charged and it was.

Got my shipment e-mail from VZW at 6pm. Checked it when I had a chance it found it was scheduled for delivery Fri by 3! Shipped from Memphis with standard overnight delivery. Anyone know if CSR work 24/7 so I can activate my phone when i get home from work?

Two updates:

1) I had to go to Mt laurel NJ for a business trip about 15 years ago. That week was enough for me (forever). Middle of summer.

2) My status has changed to order is sent for processing. I called and got the same as someone else here listed. It said that my order has been shipped and will arrive in 2 business days. Then when asked for Tracking # said that showed order as received and activated. No conf email yet and no update on the two order status sites.

At least it is progress...

Made the mistake of going to see one in person this afternoon (T-Mobile) and I have to say in the few minutes I had with the device I was very impressed (I am not easily impressed). The screen was my worry with the Pentile Matrix. I no longer have any worries. The screen is vibrant and loks great. I could not see any of the patterns I used to see in other Pentile Matrix AMOLED displays.

It was snappy and the browsing experience on the poor faux 4g of T-Mobile was excellent. Things just popped into place quickly. Everything updated very quickly.

I guess if I had one word about the first impression it would be "Smooth".

Still nothing.. just got home from a night out/dinner, checked CC, no pending charges, no change to the pre order status screen. I just think they did only the 6/6 - 6/13 people today. ARGH!

Just checked the status again and now there's no ship date.... oh well I'm sure I'll get it next week, I wasn't really expecting to get it this week anyways especially with yesterday being the 4th.
