Root Unwanted apps

Here is a list of Apps and the Odex files me and Others have deleted without having any problems
And I don't remember the names you can figure it out yourself. They don't differ to much from app names.
If you do this make sure you make back ups, in case something goes wrong.
Nothing happened to mine doing this but some people on here are not good at following directions so do this AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!
1) Visual voice Mail
2) Twitter both the app and the widget.
3) HtclockScreen.apk Deleting this will get you the nexus lock.
4) MMS (messages txt)
5) Stocks all 3 apks
6) Teeter
7) Browser
8) Amazonmp3
Things that could be deleted but I haven't tried or want to try because I use them.
9) Quickoffice
10) calendar apk and widget.
11) contacts The WIDGET NOT THE APP!!! I REPEAT DON'T REMOVE APP BUT ONLY THE WIDGET!!!!!
12) MAIL WIDGET Again not the app unless you want to go with out email or if you don't use it But I'm not even sure about this one.

And again do this AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
Don't come complaining if something goes wrong Thats why you make Backups.
Taking out the first six frees up about 8.5 mb..You can use this for a long Bootanimation.

You the man T2noob. Was wondering about the message app.
Thanks!

Yea no prob.
And I actually forgot one :D
11) Browser This is for people that dont use the stock browser. Ei people that use dolphin, opera, or xscope.

all of this freed space is still part of the system partition tho right? so doesnt free up any usuable app space... am i wrong? Not trying to sound negative, im actually curious
Idk what you mean...But if you wanted you could stick apps in the system/app folder if you want i guess.
I used a long boot so I used like 7mb lol thats the way I used the free space i got lol.:p

I was only able to find 2 of the stocks. What is the 3rd?

Stock.apk
Stock.odex
com.htc.StockWidget.apk
com.htc.StockWidget.odex

Bye bye Stocks.

Any other programs that can be safely removed that you came across? Ive removed everything but Browser that you said was safe so far. Making my friends jealous since they still have those useless apps. God I love this forum.

I would say try it...worst case scenario you have to reflash...and if you make a back up now, you can come back to exactly how it is now.

Ive flashed more times than I count but I learned what you can, and can't do :D
I like trying things out I have added scripts to my phone so I don't have to type the mount and remount commands every time thru adb all the time. For me its just as simple as typing sysrw and the script does the rest. Experiment with your phone if you feel comfortable. With a back up and recovery its pretty hard to brick your phone, not impossible but harder to do.

I just learned NAND and made a few backups and messed around. Only other app I would remove is footprints but read above that it messes with Navi, so Ill leave that alone for now. I really dont use a browser so I could uninstall that and install a better one but Ill just leave it for now.

Thank you and all the other dev's so much. Was worried I wouldnt like jumping the gun and going r00t on it but glad I waited to get r00t and 2.1 and actually learning stuff at the same time

NAND is built into the recovery ROM and nothing to install since its part of root, so if you mess up something bad and the phone doesnt function anymore, you just flash back to that backup and its back to exactly how it was when you made the backup. So far, saved me some time already.

I'm learning here :o
I removed my HtcLockScreen.apk
"rm -r HtcLockScreen.apk"
Then decided I liked my Senseui lockscreen better, so I downloaded a copy of the apk I deleted and I can't seem to get it back into place. Since I am not very familiar with the language used (when to use a "/" or " " or "\", push, pull, etc) but have been semi successful navigating around in my terminal emulator and some in the adb shell (though still less comfortable with the shell), I am hoping someone can help me get my apk back into place. If I have the "HtcLockScreen.apk" in my sd card root, what "exactly" should I do to move it or copy it into the app folder in the phone?
I tried something to the effect of "adb push C:HtcLockScreen.apk /system/app/"
that I found as instructions for moving a different file in a forum at xda (with the apk in my C: drive) I just subbed in the file names I wanted to move and the locations I was using and kept my fingers crossed.

No luck.
All I got was a ">" and when I hit the "any key" wink,wink- I get "(whatever the first word was in my last command, like "adb" in this example) not found"

help?

EDIT:
nevermind. I learned my lesson, re flashed and now will try to be more careful and back things up first.

I have removed MANY apps, and had no ill effects.
I finally got smart and make NAND backups before each questionable deletion, but I haven't had to back-up :) yet.
footprints
mms
mail
browser
stocks
vvm
teeter
twitter
facebook
socialnetwork
etc.
Now I'm thinking about removing the voice dialer, gtalk and services, and more.

Add youmail as well. That seemed to save my battery a lil longer once removed

If you have the newest youmail app, they fixed the battery draining issue.

Im a dumbass. The guy is talking about base apps that come with the phone and I put youmail. I meant youtube. But thanks for the heads up on youmail though. Ill give it a shot later and see.

Funny. Youtube is what I saw.
I also Deleted the SecretControlModule and haven't noticed any ill effects yet. Has anyone figured out what that was for anyway?

everytime I go to cmd and type abd shell, I have to reboot my system to get my phone to show up on my computer. push commands will work and other commands work but adb shell will not. I nacigate to my sdk\tools folder, type in "adb shell" and I do get a # but then nothing I type in after that works and when I disconnect my phone and try to mount it again, it is not recognized by my computer. I have to restart my comp. to fix it :(

Does windows vista just suck a big one or am I doing something wrong?

Are you all updated, like SP2? Didnt have any issues with Vista when I tested it for a friend.

And Vista is crap. Switch to Win 7. 100x better.

Its vista Home Premium SP2, I just don't know why all other commands will work but not the shell command. I rooted my phone installed the recovery. fastboot and push work fine but when I try to do "adb shell" thats it, time to restart the comp. My printer ont even work until I restart.
